Water consumers in Nkana want only Nkana Water & Sewerage Company

Residents serviced by Nkana Water and Sewerage Compan in Mufulira on the Copperbelt have threatened to withdraw their support should Mulonga Water Company take over operations.

The residents from Kantanshi and Kankoyo Townships stormed ZANIS offices this
morning to air their grievance saying they are going to demonstrate against the planned merge of the water utility company on the Copperbelt if the Ministry of Local Government goes ahead and implements it.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, Betty Kanono complained that the Mulonga Water and Sewerage Company has failed the community in the district and should  not to be allowed to take over operations from Nkana Water Company.

Area Member of Parliament Percy Chanda said in an interview that the people in
his constituency are not willing to cooperate with Mulonga Water Company.

Mr. Chanda noted that the complaint raised by the people in his constituency was genuine which the Ministry of Local Government and Housing should consider before a decision is made.

The threat by the residents  come in a wake of the pending merge of the two water utility company.

Mr. Chanda has also advised the Ministry of Local Government not to go ahead
with the planned merge.
