Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Panji Kaunda has said the Patriotic Front (PF) government’s development records can only be equated to that of the United National Independent Party (UNIP) government.
Colonel Kaunda said the PF government has scored unprecedented success in terms of fostering development in changing the socio-economic sectors of the country despite being in office for only one year and nine months.
He charged that the Movement for Multi Party Democracy (MMD) government in its 20 year reign lamentably failed to develop the nation.
He said the PF government has a clear road map on how it intends to develop the country adding that it will ensure that people’s living standards are uplifted.
Col. Kaunda was speaking in Mambwe district when he held a meeting in Chief Mkhyanya’s area to explain to the people the government’s decision to remove subsidies on maize and fuel.
He said people’s living conditions will undergo drastic changes at the end of the PF government’s first term in office.
And Chief Mkhyanya has appealed to all Zambians to allow the PF government to work so that it can fulfill the promises it made to the people.
The chief said unconstructive criticism of the government of the day will only act as a deterrent in government’s quest to develop the nation.
He was speaking in Mambwe yesterday when Col. Kaunda called on him at his palace.
He pledged to work closely with government in order to ensure that development is fostered in his chiefdom.
The traditional leader stressed the importance of working with the government of the day.
He also appealed to government to electrify his new palace saying he has failed to move into his new house because of lack of electricity.
ZANIS
No sir pf is twice the party unip ever was. Sack him for bringing pf name in desripute
Thanks
Panji might be right, life under UNIP was bad.
Panji naiwe.Pf is far much better only next to Obama`s democratic party.
Very interesting; praising PF while “marketing” UNIP. To me there’s not such thing as equal loyalty.
Panji KAUNDA can speak out against his father’s party? The party that to this day is giving him a privileged position?
Sorry, I think people are being fooled.
“…He said people’s living conditions will undergo drastic changes at the end of the PF government’s first term in office…”
Drastic changes for the worst are already evident. It is scary to imagine any more “improvement”!
It doesn’t matter the depth of your convictions,Mr Panji, if the object of your beliefs is flawed. Its like seeing a big rat’s tail and you’re wrongly convinced you’ve seen a snake wiggling away.
During UNIP era, Panji lived at state house where he luxuriously enjoyed life as a son of a republican president. And now under PF, Panji’s has been rescued from poverty by being given a ministerial position. This is why he sees no difference because he is now enjoying just as he used to at state house during his father’s tenure of office.
Good Comment
As much as I dont agree with what he is saying No he didn’t live at State House. He was a fully grown man when Zambia became independent so he lived in the barracks
‘Electrify my palace’? What a selfish Chief! What about the rest of the village? Typical of our leaders today. What a shame!!!
I am sure the same poles that run to his palace will run through the same village.
who will pay for it?
Another retard
The picture says it all. He has been instructed to make this statement with immediate effect. The people of Zambia will never forget Levy Mwanawasa because he liberated us with real progress and in his short term of office devised a roadmap to bring Zambia closer to the 21st Century. Zambian leadership is still suffering from the UNIP side effect because the majority of them are a product of this one party system. For Zambia to go forward, we need to part company with this mediaeval PF-UNIP system being run by these great granddads.
Levy with Magande
Levy anali munthu not ba kambwanga or amambala alipo lomba. We miss that great son of Africa. Please don’t bring Magande in the equation. He was just a minister just like Mpombo.
Definitely the Minister was right. The PF has exceeded that threshold. What more with the sudden resurrection of Vigilantes, The P.I.G, mealie meal shortages, road accidents, bloated cabinet, intolerance to opposition, one party mentality, safari suits, hero-worshipping of the Presido, high fuel prices, blah blah blah blahhhhhhhhhh.
Panji just shut up! Your father messed up this country until he was hounded out. If things were that rosy in your father’s reign, how come there was a revolution to have you out? Just accept that for 27 years you enjoyed free things in State House and went into abject poverty thereafter. Sata gave you a lifeline no wonder you are licking his a**
Panji, osanama nayimwe! Which development ? If there was any development, you and your father would still be in power. Have you forgotten already how your father was telling the Zambians ” ndemifonkola pamala?. He meant starving the people, it’s the same direction pf is heading to.
He has stopped wearing shots and now thinks UNIP was better…
He has stopped wearing shorts… kaputula and now he thinks he his clever
Panji, be fair.
UNIP came into power in 1964 with £3 million surplus in coffers and left government in 1991 with $7 billion debt, 110% inflation, negative growth of the economy.
MMD took over and 20 years later left government with $3 billion surplus, less than 10% inflation and 7% growth.
Now PF is reaping where it did not sow.
What kind of dulness is this? It is painfully annoying.
One cannot expect an objective opinion given the background/agenda of the source.
In UNIP era Zambia’s population increased from 3 million to 10 million while the economy SHRANK – is that development? The level of objectivity (shall i say lack) is just amazing – what is Panji talking about? He has a full tummy again..
@Alderman- u said it all!
Its a pity that after having the best of education money could buy you sir come out with such an obsequious statement.Perhaps to be fair to you UNIP and PF are similar in that you both employ Machiavellian principles.
Spot on @Ex Moma. I hope whatever you are doing you are not in Nundeco, Mondeco would utilise your skills. Panji is a boot licker, as waste of space. At this rate Munkombwe will pass on the button of chief political lumen to Panji.
We just kept wondering and insinuating. You have just cleared the air STUPIT IDEOT
Panji alefwayabamu polomote naimwe bafikala think kabili ubuttutu
Presidential aspirant ………not!!
That is far enough with the bootlicking ba Panji, iyeeee ne nsoni tamwakwata !
The man is ironically correct! Under his Dad’s regime, there was a parallel cabinet in dozens of Members of Central Committee and ordinary cabinet. There were 2 Governments in UNIP the Party and in the Central Government plus local Government. Total confusion there was in that bloated Government, same as this PF.
Am sure he means the PIG, food shortages, promissory notes, mealie meal coupons, 7Billion dollar debt, 1 university in 27years etc….
He is absolutely right, PF has messed up this country big time and we should chase them out of Government in the same manner we did with UNIP. In any case it is the same character who was in UNIP and fixated so much on the useless polices like price controls , police brutality, lawlessness etc.
If PF continues on this path, their ‘success’ will really be comparable to that of UNIP.
110% inflation.
Shortages of essential commodities.
Copper output at 200,000 tonnes per year.
Runaway inflation at 110%
No drugs in hospitals.
Tarino and Quench full of sodium benzoate (aromatic aldehyde)
Dictatorship ruling s t u p i d i d i o t s.
Life expectancy 34 years
University graduate’s salary $50 per month.
Not much difference between UNIP and PF. They are both autocratic socialist regimes that are making sure that the country goes backwards. What did UNIP do for the country. They squandered the economy with their rampant socialist ideas and dreams. Like PF they run out of money borrowed and the country incurred so much debt all because of incompetent socialists like Kaunda. As for development it depends how you equate that. In terms of the living standards I think the MMD started that programme and now PF is reaping the benefits. As for UNIP the only development they ever did was build early infastructure. But then they failed to maintain it whilst also ensuring that the living standards of the common man were next to zero. Thats development under UNIP
Shame
. . . MCCs (remember Kangwa Nsulukas), Provincial Political Secretaries (Haapunda look-alikes), District Political Secretaries, Women’s league, youth league, viscious OP, night visits and investigations, police brutality, news censorship and filtering, free fall of Kwacha, exchannge controls, family/tribal jungles etc…. !!! You have really bypassed UNIP hands down.
Fr33dom, #7 Are you sure? Because I forgot about him, he was the worst of them all.
in short, Panji is saying dad’s oppressive regime is shaping up PF and the sooner we return to a one party state the better for him. Get closer to the people Panji, the days of praising your Dad in the smouldering heat for hours on end waiting for his motorcade to pass and only seeing his white handkerchief are truly long gone!!!!!
Maaaaan, it makes me so angry to remember that.
Yaaba naiwe kanshi eko wali? No school when he comes to Kitwe. On the hot tarmac the whole day listening to ZIS telling you “balaisa nombaline ba ntambalukuta twabasha kunuma” and he doesnt turn up.
Kaundas,
Just. Go. Away.
Hmm. More promises. I wonder what these drastic changes are?
Are these changes reaching the common man?
I wonder
He’s very unfortunate-looking. Like his father but without the height.
A somewhat confusing comment. What value
is it to compare governments 20 yaers apart?
The world is much different now.
Chachine
Panji is qualifyng his statemt on people’s driven concerns taken by pf govt.Erors can bthere if other statistical considerations re taken into account. However he may not be mistaken since this is qualitative observation bt based on observations.Thts his opinion.
Iwe mambala stop comparing dead parties to those alive. Just enjoy your bread and butter in PF and stop reminding us of UNIP. Or are you campaigning for your brother so he can ressurrect the phoenix?
panji Kaunda is very honest, pf and unip are one and the same thing, food shortages, high inflation rates, police state of emergency , and all the bad things that can be imagined are associated with unip.
Panji is right, the only time he enjoyed this much was in the UNIP time. Continue enjoying Panji with your father too, while the majority have to pay more for good and services.
He’s right PF and UNIP are the same, journalists are being jailed, Nationalisation, Intimidation of Opposition, etc.
There only thing unip did is introduce those horrible safari suits and a dependency on copper
