The MMDs’ maneuver to force Acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda out of office has suffered a setback after police denied them a permit to stage a public demonstration.
Lusaka Province Police Commissioner Joyce Kasosa has told ZNBC that the move is meant to avoid inconveniencing the public.
The former ruling party had planned to protest against Justice Chibesakunda’s stay in office which it argues is unconstitutional.
Ms Kasosa said that the MMD can show their displeasure through other avenues other than marching on the roads.
But MMD national secretary Kapembwa Simbao has described the police action as unfair. Mr. Simbao has complained that the Police have continuously denied the opposition permits to hold public functions.
Recently President Michael Sata said that MMD president Nevers Mumba should halt his ill advised and misplaced attacks on the country’s judiciary.
Mr. Sata said that Dr. Mumba must realize that launching irrational verbal attacks on the judiciary suggests that he is petitioning his own competence as a leader.
And Chief government spokesperson Kennedy Sakeni said that those attacking Justice Chibesakunda are wasting their time as she is merely acting for administrative convenience.
Dr. Mumba has written a letter to Justice Chibesakunda asking her to resign on principle.
Yes the Egyptian police under fellow dictator Mubarak behaved in a similar manner – where are they today?
We all make mistakes Ms Chibesakunda tripped and should be forgiven.
Using this to steal some publicity is ludicrous at best
Yet again this government under the wisdom of his Excellency has rightfully refused the permit although the ‘inconvenience the public’ quote is rather misplaced or simply delusional
Either way, we should not hound this woman from her position; one swallow does not make a summer
Personally as someone doing her PhD I think this has been handled exemplary by this government that does not cease to amaze their excellence in handling difficult situation

Nobody is getting rid of this Acting Chief Justice.Immediately her name was rejected by Parliament,Sata should have submitted another name.Her own conscience is certainly telling her to step out but she is arrogantly working against it.Why for example is Justice Ireen Mambilima being side stepped when she is the legitimate heir to the position of Chief Justice since she is a ratified Deputy Chief Justice?

For how long is justice Chibesa Kunda going to act according to her appointment letter? Is it indefinite? Why can’t she just be approved if she is qualified for the position? Let Sata Advise the nation.
Unfortunately, Parley cannot ratify her in its current formation, hence she has to nullify more Opp seats inorder to have the numbers to see her appointment through. Truly, Zambian governance has gone to the dogs, or is it the dogs at it?

Why even apply to the police which you very much know the answer is no? If someone keeps doing something the same way and getting same undesired effect, it simply means he/she has a problem. MMD, find a different way of protesting and stopping killing trees through writing to the police whose answer you well know.
