Chanda Chimba III to be Voice of America’s Zambian correspondent

Zambia Reports’s Peter Adamu reports that freelance journalist Chanda Chimba III has landed a respected position with the reputable international media organisation, Voice of America (VOA), to contribute news articles for its various fora as Zambia’s correspondent.

Chimba, a former Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) broadcaster, will be responsible to provide content to VOA’s radio, television and webpage services effective July 2013.

The well known journalist, who many Zambians will remember for producing a series of investigative documentaries warning about the dangers of electing President Michael Sata prior to the 2011 election, is delighted with the opportunity.

“I have always looked forward to something like this,” he said in an interview with Zambia Reports, adding; “I know that filing for an organisation like VOA is very challenging. But I am ready for all the challenges and that’s what I like.”

Chimba’s maiden package is expected to go on air in the United States of America, Washington DC time 08:00 AM which is 14:00 hours in Zambia and will later be distributed on the channels webpage service.

The 48-year-old experienced journalist is however not the most popular of people to President Michael Sata and his cronies who are currently persecuting him through trumped up charges before a judiciary they have deeply compromised and is headed by an illegal Acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda.

Prior to the September 2011 elections, Chimba produced a series of documentaries he entitled Stand Up for Zambia in which he catalogued President Sata’s political career and warned voting for the then opposition leader would render Zambia into a dictatorial state.

In his programmes aired on ZNBC and Muvi Television which are now widely distributed on Youtube, Chimba uncovered how Post Newspaper owner Fred M’membe had assumed the role of PF chief propagandist – the role he continues to occupy todate.

Chimba predicted how Zambia will be governed and most of the things he discussed are obtaining in the country today earning him the title of ‘prophet’ among Zambians some of whom ridiculed his programmes but have openly apologised for not heeding the wise counsel he offered.

  9. Whoever wrote this article does qualify to be called a journalist! The problem with these amateurs journalist is that they expose their bias easily and make comments on things unrelated to the whole subject. This guy abused public funds for personal gains, those programs were produced using public funds to help MMD, which is illegal! Supporting criminality is the mindset which most Zambians have to change, what Chimba did was wrong and dangerous, genocide in Rwanda happened because of careless individuals spouting hatred in the radios and TV. I hope he sticks to facts and not come up with fake stories like the ones which are filling up most Zambian online publications. International broadcasters are afraid of lawsuits and do not tolerate lies or fake stories!

    • It will be interesting to hear him contribute from jail because that’s were he just might end up together with a few of his high powered friends who will definitely sacrifice him being at the bottom of the food chain.

  18. I am quite disappointed with your recent reporting Lusaka Times. I for a long time have held you in high esteem vis-a-vis for your objectivity. Now you also join the bandwagon of Zambian Watchdog and Zambia Reports of criticising the President or Govt or commentors who seem balanced. Sata and cronies..ouch…that language! Congrats to Chanda Chimba for that but one you should remember is that propaganda he was televising stealing govt taxes with his MMD colleagues, has to be accounted for and if found wanting. The law will certain visit him whether his been appointed VOA correspondent or not..he’ll account.

    • now from the stand up for zambia series,what exactly does chanda chimba lie about our president. i think he substantiates what he says with video evidence and then later on makes a conclusion from that. whether you align to his conclusion or not is your prerogative,its your choice and thats the beauty of democracy febana.

    • what special about VOA? Its `throws` the news and information to the whole world at one press of a button,,, thats whats special,,, those kampasa killings and other human rights abuses will now be known at the Hague,,VOA will report directly on behalf of the voiceless and powerless

  20. Congrats Chanda III. The PFost is bitter and choking with envy. VoA, thats a strategic move to balance the skewed media playing field in Zambia. Young man squeeze the balls of the PF and its stooges until they squeek…. Congrats ! Remember that you have been given a loaded gun. Use it wisely . You have both protection and power from the people who bankroll VoA. You have earned their admiration. Even LT has lost confidence in PF as seen their recent posts.

  21. The obvious thing here is the PF will be choking about this and I won’t be surprised to see a media statement from Sekeni. However, it makes me wonder how the PF think when they look at their adversaries being acknowledged globally. You can start with RB who is recognised especially in the USA, Amsterdam who recently won an award for leading the legal fights for the abuse of human rights and now Chanda Chimba. Surely they Govt must question why they seem to be on the wrong side of international recognition or do they think that all these organisations are just against them (despite Zambia being a non entity on the global stage?

  25. In another bizarre turn of events and twists. It is a blessing for God to provide a form of revenue for him, but his own good or bad shall pave his path. Chanda Chimba seek God and him only. Work hard and all shall be good. Don’t paint our nation bad though represent the truth.

    Pleased to hear this news and wishing Chanda Chimba all the best in his new task.

    It is not always easy for a reporter to maintain an impartial stance. It is a natural tendency to base a report on one’s personal convictions, especially when there are no facts to back up a story.
    This “rational reporting” is quite widespread in the media, making some reporters seem biased when in actual fact they are only deducing like we all do in our everyday lives.

    Yo should also get permission to get inside Chimbokaila prison to start practising filing reports to VOA from there in case your court case ends in conviction. Remember Shaka Sali is very critical you should send factual reports whether in prison or out.

  32. MVELANI BA LOOSEACRE TIMES Before you start clothing Voice of America in venerable terms get some free education on them. VOA is a propaganda institution for the american govt. It’s the same as ZANIS. So dont rush to impress gullible Zedians with statements like “Chanda Chimba has landed a respected position on VOA”. Respected by who? Here in America noone ever hears of VOA. None of the media ever uses VOA material. I therefore conclude that only the third world audience might possess any so called respect for VOA.

  33. Going through all the comments, I have noticed that a lot of people are happy with Mr Chanda Chimba’s new role. Looking back to 2011, a lot of people never liked this guy with his Stand Up program. Now, this is a wake up call to the PF that people are not happy. Instead of pretending that all is well, its high time to engage the people who gave them the mandate to govern. You can never underrate the power of the people when they’ve made up their minds for change. Before its to late someone out there to tell the PF that the road they’re using was closed in 2011 for public use and its a burial site for the MMD.

  38. Good for him. I hope he will be factual, impartial and not emotional in his reporting. It is a chance to rehabilitate his professional and personal image. Should stay clear of slander otherwise he may end up in a similar quandary as Nevers Mumba finds himself in, in MMD today. Needless to say discharge from VOA may be more swift that from that of an MMD party presisident

  40. Chanda Chi-Lion and not chimbwi(hyna): You are really a lion, not only courageous but prophetic also. Any scholar involved in research knows that, findings of a research must be proven by an independent one of which in this case all Zambians are collective researchers who are able to confirm Chanda Chi-Lion’s findings before 2011’s elections. Well deserved position!

  41. Complaints against CC are not baseless. These complaints are well founded. Before change of government CC serialized cheap propaganda. The propaganda backfired because it was cheap. If VOA thinks cheap propaganda will bring about change of government this time, then VOA is totally wrong. Speaking on VOA on 19-07-2013, CC justified poor journalism by Zambian Watch Dog. Hate speak is wrong. It is unlawful. On a scale of ABC, ZWD fits into Grade C. Lusaka Times is Grade A. The Post clearly fits in A. For the sake of argument public newspapers qualify for Grade A/B. It is not too late for VOA to think twice.

    • Why do you Dr. Makasa Kasonde (Private Citizen) sound like Fred Mm’embe, Amos Malupenga or Mutembo Nchito. All what Chanda Chimba III said in his documentaries is true. You should get a copy of the political advert which which just aired on ZNBC of President Sata in Chipata defaming innocent citizens like Fr. Bwalya, Hakainde Hichilema and Nevers Mumba. Like it or not Chimba is the VOA correspondent in Zambia and he deserves it, he is a brave journalist. Congrats to him.
