Coach Herve Renard has saluted the home based Zambia team for winning the 2013 COSAFA Senior Challenge Cup.
Renard’s make-shift squad won Zambia’s fourth COSAFA Cup title on home soil after thrashing holders Zimbabwe 2-0 in Saturday’s final at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The Frenchman told a post-match media conference that he was proud of the team.
Renard declared that winning the COSAFA Cup was huge achievement for the local youngsters.
“It’s a very good achievement for the local players to win a trophy like the COSAFA Cup, so I am very proud of them,” he said.
Renard added:”This is a big victory for Zambian football.”
Zambia won the COSAFA Cup in 1997(First edition),1998 and 2006.

“Bus accident kills 90” even this heading will lift your spirit? Which country are you from anyoko?
I share in Renard’s pride for the local players. By winning the just ended Cosafa tournament, their performance notwithstanding, the lads have written an indelible chapter in the history of soccer in Zambia. I wish to congratulate the boys together with Renard.
Where we part company with Renard though, is his failure to read games or his failure to realize that a particular player is contributing next to nothing and thus needs substitution. Just in the first two games, the striking partnership of Festus and Bornwell had been tried and tested with sufficient evidence of not jelling yet he kept faith with the duo all the way. If these players are doing well in their respective teams may the national team may be a rung too high for them, for now.
At the just ended tournament Renard had other players who could have done better. The performance of Ng’onga who came off the bench in the second game and started in the last and Moses proved they could have contributed even more. My position is not meant to demean the achievements but rather to add on to the successes. Space, though, constrains me to give a detailed analysis here.
Ok, you sound clever mate apply for the job , we don’t have enough cash to continue paying huge salary to Renard.
Yes replace Mweene and HH. Dull Tribal Tongaz. Football is for bembaz
Always agreed Renard is the best coach for Zambia. Before he took over (First Stint), Zambia used to be so weak, & an embarasment to watch @ AFCON, & other tournament’s. Renard’s been responsible as a former fitness coach, for toughening Chipolopolo to international playing standards. Zambia’s problem recently has always been a lack of quality finisher’s who could easily fit in top world class team’s like Chitalu, or Kalusha to name a few top class finishers Zambia’s produced in the past. Notice how, Zambia has rarely lost game’s, & they even left Afcon in South Africa without (Losing). If You look @ Renards percentage success, no team or Country in their right mind would consider sacking him @ present. Bravo F.A.Z, Bravo Renard for another trophy in the cabinet.
I can only applaud your analysis, my man! …nothing less.
