Mukuka wins Cosafa Cup best player award

Share

Exciting Chipolopolo midfielder Mulenga Mukuka has been voted Best Player of the ended 2013 COSAFA Senior Challenge Cup.

Mukuka was instrumental as hosts Zambia won their fourth COSAFA Cup title on home turf beating Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe on the way to the champion’s podium.

His team mate Danny Munyau was voted the Goalkeeper of the Tournament after conceding only a goal in the three matches Zambia played at the regional tournament.

And, Botswana striker Jerome Ramathakwana emerged as the 2013 COSAFA Cup top scorer with four goals in three matches.

Ramathakwana’s unlucky Zebras failed to advance past the group stages on goals as Lesotho win Group B on better goals even through the two teams were tied on five points.

Meanwhile, Lesotho coach Leslie Notsi has hailed the general organization of 2013 COSAFA Cup.

Notsi rated the tournament as great.

“The tournament has been great, the hospitality, the organization and the people around have been friendly. There are a lot of good things that we are taking out of this tournament,” he said.

Lesotho finished fourth at the COSAFA Cup after losing to South Africa 2-1 in the Third and Fourth play-off match at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Saturday.

  1. Renard has now found a good replacement to Mweene. Munyao never get red cards. And who will need Chris Katongo when there is Mukuka Mulenga and Pilato Alex Ngonga?
    Next matches:
    1. Danny Munyao
    2. Nkausu
    3. Chisamba (hilarious)
    4. Sunzu
    5. Kondwani (or Broson Chama, not that Hichani again)
    6. Nathan (Its ok to let him play because of age-mate with rest, otherwise he is not better than Kalume).
    7. Alex Ngonga (electric)
    8. Mukuka Mulenga (Intelligent)
    9. Jacob
    10. Mbesuma
    11. Kalaba
    ……………..
Make your own bench, but I don’t see Chris Katongo making even bench. Chris should know that there is even Fwayo, Mayuka, Kola, Umwaiche Musakanya.
That Mweene is simply a huge risk, am always scared of his actions…

    • You seem to hate Mweene with passion. How many red cards did he got from how many games? How many times have you seen Munyao in goal? Try visting Nkoloma stadium on regular bases and get to know him better. Take it or leave it Mweene is by far much better that Munyao and will probably acheive more than Munyao since the two are not far apart were age is concerned.

    • Going by your analysis its clear that you have personal issue with Mweene. Danny Munyau is a good goal keeper but he is still acclimatising himself. As much as Munyau is a good goalie, the coach cannot risk to feature him in the Ghana game. Finally, you cant compare Danny Munyau and Kennedy Mweene interms of goal keeping, Mweene is by far(And I mean very far) from Munyau. That red card Mweene got saved you from embarrassment because Lesotho could have beaten Zambia by 2 goals to 1 and the story could have been different now.KENNEDY MWEENE IS A HERO!!

  2. I dont think Mukuka deserved to win that accolade, his not creative and runs without thinking and most importantly he is overrated!! Congrats Chipolopolo though

    • Agreed he has a lot to prove for this accolade. In all the games he just had 1 or 2 flashes and failed to dictate midfield play in all the games. Can improve though but has to work hard.

    • Bruce Musakanya was going to get that price had he not gotten injured and I think even Bronson Chama performed better. The tricky thing is that we emaged as champions and such awards are usually biased to champions otherwise even players from other countries could have perfomed better than ours individually.

  3. Let us not get too excited over munyau’s performance in a small tornament like cosafa. Infact there isn’t much football to talk about in the southern region football. There no such intelligent strikers to congratulate munyau compared to the kinds of strikers Mweene has dealth with.

  4. Sidney Kalume is a good anchorman in midfield. He has alot of experience. I know him from the Zanaco days before he went to Zesco and finally Nkana. He is Kalampa’s skipper. I knew that one day he was gonna receive a call-up to the national team.

Alex Ng’onga is one determined boy! Those of you who watch soccer @ Nchanga Stadium willn agree with me! indeed his energy is electric! His free-kicks are lethal.DIE

  5. I like the determination of Alex ngo’nga and his lethal free kicks. We won the cup on pernalties and free kicks.Having penalty and free kick specialists in the game bring confidence to all and reminds us of the great kalu days.No wonder kalu shed tears of joy coz of the 3 kicks he saw. Viva Zambia!!
