The Electoral Commission of Zambia says it will not make any further comments on the matter involving a Patriotic Front-PF political advert in which Paramount Chief Mpezeni featured.
ECZ Director Priscilla Isaac says the commission has made its position clear despite growing criticism from the PF rank and file.
Ms Isaac has told ZNBC news in a telephone interview that the ECZ is merely performing its function within its mandate.
But PF Deputy National Youth Coordinator Kennedy Kamba has told ZNBC news that ECZ’s criticism of the PF advert is meant to embarrass the ruling party.
Mr. Kamba says the PF youths are carefully monitoring statements from the ECZ over the PF political advert.
He has wondered why ECZ reprimanded the PF without any complaints from the opposition political parties that took part in the Chipata central parliamentary by-election on July 25.
And Sibuyunji PF District Secretary Joseph Kasonde has called for Ms Isaac’s resignation accusing her of being an opposition sympathizer.
But Ms Isaac says those aggrieved by the ECZ’s stance should seek the interpretation of the ECZ Act.

How could a custodian of the law himself come out in public to support the breaking of the law? He should have interpreted the law or better still kept quiet since he was an interested party as SG of the PF. HE IS THE ONE WHO WOULD HAVE BEEN FORCED TO RESIGN. He would have been history as Minister if he was in Australia, South Africa, N Zealand, UK, USA.

I want to commend ECZ for the work it is starting to show the citizens. If Opposition parties violets the Electrol Code of Conduct, they should be reprimanded as well. We needed morality from our society for development to take place. Lets make sure that a new constitution is enacted to make our leaders answerable to the people who vote for them. Politics should now be for service not to make money at the expense of the poor and uneducated people. I want a strong constitution that will stand a test of time!

In one of the meetings that was attended by local businessmen, it came out that Mahtani was now financing UPND and has struck a deal with the party that they shall not reopen the cases of money laundering and ignore the funding of PF. The community knows that Mahtani was financing Mangani via Aloo of Sable Transport. Mangani worked as a foreman at Sable Transport before he was brought into politics by Rupiah. But Mangani and Chabwera stabbed Rupiah in the back.
