PRESIDENT Michael Sata has urged the electorate in Mkaika Constituency in Katete to vote for the ruling party candidate, David Phiri, so as to ensure smooth implementation of various developmental projects.

Mr Sata who held two public rallies in Mkaika yesterday told hundreds of residents ahead of voting on Thursday this week that Government would accelerate development when working with a Member of Parliament (MP) from the ruling party.

Mr Sata who was drumming up support for Mr Phiri said opposition MPs would fail to help Government deliver hence it would be easier to work with the ruling party candidate.

Speaking at Chitende and Omelo Mumba grounds, he said development had continued to lag behind in Mkaika because, the electorate had chosen to work with the opposition, who failed to deliver once voted as MPs.

“I have brought Mr Phiri here and I want to work with him to accelerate development in this area, so it is entirely up to you the voters to lag behind or you give me a person I can work with to development this area,” he said.

He said the PF was geared to bring development to the nation and wanted to work with MPs that would help it achieve its goals and vision for the country.

He said the MMD under its leader Nevers Mumba had failed to effectively represent the people in its constituencies. He charged that Dr Mumba had issues with the church and had continued to mislead his members.

“That is why I urge you to vote for a ruling party candidate so that we can work together. Look at these children here, they did not choose to continue living under poor conditions, so let us work together so that we can improve the welfare of our children and that of the country,” he said.

He thanked the people for the high turnout and urged them that the ruling party would not disappoint them in terms of fostering development.

He said Katete like other places needed improved health, education and road infrastructure and pledged to continue on the right footing that the PF had continued to take.

Mr Sata said the PF needed to establish its presence in Eastern Province, saying currently there was only one MP, Joseph Lungu of Msanzala Constituency.

And Mufumbwe MP, Stephen Masumba said he resigned from the MMD because it had failed the people and that working with President Sata had proved beneficial in terms of driving development.

“We need you people of Mkaika to vote for Mr Phiri so that we can develop together. He left the MMD like I did, because he realised that there was nothing in that party, they failed you for 20 years and what is it that they can do for you that they did not do then?

President Sata cares for you and he will do as he promises,” Mr Masumba said.

The President was accompanied by Commerce Trade and Industry Minister, Emmanuel Chenda, Education, Science, Vocational and Early Education Minister, John Phiri, Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu and party officials.

The MMD is fielding, Peter Phiri to contest the Mkaika seat.

  1. only two years that these people worked with opposition party. MMD and UNIP were in power ever since. Talk about Chasefu. Yes, since 1991, the constituency is one of very few that have maintained opposition. 1991-1996 U.N.I.P, 1996 to date F.D.D.
it depends if David Phiri conducted well.

    • David won by a whisker and did not have the support of the district MMD leadership in Mkaika during the 2011. In fact the leadership resigned enmass after the MMD insisted on imposing David even after losing in the primaries.

  2. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PRESIDENT. MR SATA DEVELOPMENT IS SUPPOSE TO GIVEN TO EACH AND EVERY CONSTITUENCY NOT ONLY TO SPECIFIC CONSTITUENCIES YOU ARE SEEKING VOTES!!!! IT WAS THE PROMISE YOU MADE IN 2011 PLEASE STOP MAKING MORE PROMISES AND WASTING TAXPAYER MONEY – GO BACK TO STATE HOUSE AND FIX THE ECONOMY. ALSO, STOP THESE UNNECESSARY BY-ELECTIONS.

    • Be wise you human as you I don’t think you can do that if you were in the same position.PEOPLE HAVE TO REAP WHAT THEY SOW.Many people did not support PF and yet they want positions not at all.WE SALUE YOU MR PRESIDENT MMD SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN CHANCE

  3. I can imagine what would become of Obama if he said there would be no development in Republican led constituencies in the U.S. Sata’s sentiments are remnants of politics of the UNIP era. The people of Mkaika are Zambians like those in Mpika and therefore, should not be discriminated against on account of the political affiliation of their favoured candidate.

    • NO not UNIP era….In one party state, candidates were winning elections on merit. KK never travelled from one place to another favouring specific candidates.. That was MMD ..Kafupi’s style of leadership to woo voters and threatening them =D

  4. Mkaika residents pay taxes, they work for the benefit of all zambia in our armed forces and in the civil service.Should they have to pick loyalty and tax payments to mkaika or to all of zambia?
Surely,PF tactics for votes are blackmail, backward and divisive.

  5. It is sad when talk of development only comes out during elections and with the condition that only voting for the ruling party would bring it about. Once you become president, you are a leader of all the people inclunding the ones that did not vote for you. That is the nature of politics. It is time these guys started providing leadership and not playing politics.

  6. Three things:
    1. The Presidents of Zambia must stop this nonsense of telling people that development will be taken to them only if they voted for the ruling parties. It is utter rubbish. Every sitting government is elected to deliver development to the entire realm of the Republic of Zambia. These politicians need to dispense with a vengeful attitude.
    2. Why is the Policeman holding the microphone for President Sata? Are there no Microphone Stands or Radio Microphones?
    3. Why are there so many police officers in this picture? Was this meant to intimidate people, or has it now become unsafe for the President to meet the citizenry?

    • .. Q.2 .. look careful.. One microphone stands on its own while the other one you saw is being supported by the police officer.. Nothing sinister inthere 🙂

  7. This “vote for a PF candidate to qualify for development in your area” is very disgusting and annoying. Its also very insulting to the collective intelligence of all citizens. But what’s wrong with this man?

  8. “President Sata cares for you and he will do as he promises,” Mr Masumba said.
Quote of the day or bufi of the day?

  9. Is this the same Masumba pictured in Meembes Post being enveloped by a Werrason dancing queen? He just helped the PF to loose the seat

  10. All Zambians pay Tax….yes they at least may VAT through what they buy! Therefore all are entitled development. This nonsense of ‘developing only PF constinuencies’ must come to an end. It is not only PF that pay tax.

  11. Developing all corners of our country is responsibility of the Government in Power Mr. President. Maybe you have forgotten that you are The President of a Nation not a Party. Why promise Development in exchange for votes?? Wrong Move and Failed Leadership.

  12. PF need to change their campaign strategy. They should take development every where and use that to seek re-election. When you deny people development because they didn’t vote for your candidate it just makes you more unpopular with those voters. The next time you go to seek their vote they will reject you more as the remember the pain and suffering you have put them through.

  13. lelo pf ya ola with a stench of urine yaba fix the country not usless threat ba kaponya dora is coming for you thugs

  14. What is Masumba doing in Eastern Province? He is supposed to be in Jail. It will be difficulty to win for PF. Honey moon is over.
