Herve Renard has stepped down as Zambia coach.

Renard has quit to take over the job at French club Sochaux.

FAZ spokeperson Erick Mwanza confirmed in a statement today that the 2012 Africa Cup winning coach had left Zambia after a second spell at the helm.

“The Football Association of Zambia hereby announces the release of Herve Renard from the job of National coach of the Zambian National Football Team. The 2012 Nations Cup winning coach has been offered a wonderful opportunity at FC Sochaux in the top league in France,” Mwanza said.

Renard’s assistant Patrice Beaumelle has taken over of the team.

And Renard will be reunited at Sochaux with his protege Emmanuel Mayuka who is on a one year loan deal with the second from bottom club French Ligue one club.

    • Kabimba served by Renard this week, he has chance to relax and have sex he missed in last 5 weeks.
Renard was good player, I mean playing around with players. He be missed indeed, I just hope he will take some of friends to Sochaux.
But guys believe me even Chris Katongo has supported me that Zambia needs Chinese coach at this moment. And Chinese are so many, we can have 1 coach for each player!. No mistake to take a local coach, there isn’t even a presentable/ good-for-camera one anyway.

    • I somewhat seem to get convinced that national team coaches should NEVER be allowed to select the 22 players they work with, but only to come up with a line-up on match day. Selection of the 22 players should be done by the following;

      1. A committee comprising ALL Head coaches of ALL premier league sides
      2. A committee of soccer commentators
      3. A committee of sports journalists
      4. A committee of soccer fans, with representatives from all provinces, and
      5. A committee of referees

Each committee member should be asked to select 3 players per position, and the 22 players with the highest votes qualify to form part of the national team. Each selector should only select a player for a SINGLE position.

  1. Whatever goes up must come down at some point. I wish to thank Renard for the job well done. He brought joy to Zambia after trying for so many years to win the most prestigious cup in Africa. The reengagement of the coach just after we fired bonnet was the best that FAZ had done. He has left an indelible mark in Zambian Football. I wish him all the very best in his new role as the first team coach for sochaux in ligue 1.

As for Patrice I equally feel he his the best coach suited for the take over. There will be continuity and no disturbances to the team. We do not need an entirely new coach to begin to overhaul the team. A gradual phasing out of tired legs should start now as we embark on a new chapter with Patrice. All the best

  2. YAyayayayayayayaya…….happy day today… Let him go and i wish him success in his new appointment. I waited for this opportunity and am celebrating as if we have won AFCON again. Average coach he is…

  3. FAZ/Zambia should not be in a rush to sign on a new expatriate coach. Whilst Bueumuelle takes care let there be serious consultations on constituting a quartet of local coaches base on a (suggested) criteria below:
    1. Goalkeepers coach (must have played in goals)
    2. Defenders coach (his local team must have the most formidable defensive formation in the league
    3. Midfielders coach (proven midfield role in both local and international fixtures)
    4. Strikers coach ( his local team must have the most prolific striking force in the league)
    5. Head coach can be any of the 4 but must demonstrate ability to read games/make necessary substitutions/remedial measures and must be able to enforce discipline.

    • @Chief Kaponya: It is a strategy that has been tried and it worked wonders. The Zambian National Team that perished in the Gabon Air Disaster of 1993 had a quartet of the following local coaches
Goalkeepers Coach: Boniface Simutowe (did not travel with team)
Defenders Coach : Dick Chama (did not travel with the team)
Midfielders Coach : Alex “computer” Chola
Strikers Coach (Head Coach): “Ucar” Godfrey Chitalu
Since the demise of the 1993 team, Zambia has never been able to mobilise a “full force” team of local players that these local coaches put in place. May The Souls of the Departed Rest In Peace.

    • Good suggestion @ theoretician. The coaching team should also include a fitness coach, a psychologist and a nutritionist. Renard’s salary is enough o pay all these coaches handsomely.

  4. I can’t bring myself to believe! I have never been satisfied with the capacity of Renard. His record also speaks for itself: 11 draws, 17 wins and 24 losses! Good riddance – and a saving of at least K500,000 per month.

    • What a retarded idea, to grow a foreigner into an international coach at the expense of your own. Make matters worse, they are repeating the same mistake. When will they ever give a chance to our own people? If Renard can grow into a highly sought after big leagues coach on our turf, know that one of our own can grow there too! Wake up 1di0ts!

Let’s grow our own coaches. We may fumble here and there, but from splitting out lips and scraping our knees, we will learn valuable lessons.

  5. Time is the master of ideas.
Its good that that Renard has gone on his own.
Thanks to Mr Renard for making a name in Zambia and best wishes.
The debate is over and sports minister kambwili has lost the debate.

  6. If this was announced on Friday, i was going to have drunk myself to pulp in celebrations, uhhmm coke sembe yanipaya.

  7. Has FAZ even named the squad to face Brazil? Have they even made arrangements to travel? Do the players have travel documents to China? Worrying times ahead.

  8. He has proved he has better things to do unlike some pf cadres like membe and kabimba who fail to think beyond sataz PF. Leave PF and find you foot. All of pf members are enjoying the benefit of telling lies by your boss who came to power thru lies.

  9. Thought Patrice was Renard’s physical trainer. What is he still doing here?

Let’s bring in only local coaches.

  10. Passive Zambians in all, including sport. Kambwili must be ashamedoh that he was arr0gant1y defending a poor decision, equally to the surprise of the coach. Go well coach.

  11. If a local coach qualifies yes. It must be by merit. HR did his part. I don’t think at the moment any so called local coach can bring us Africa cup, maybe Cosafa, any way i stand to be corrected. Munaile’s comments against HR in the media shows immaturity. Himself must tell us if as a player he won Africa cup, even when he was MP in Malole, what development is there for us to see, people couldn’t even re- elect him. We shouldn’t hero worship HR, but we must accept that credit deserve to be given were it is due. Most people talking have achieved nothing in their lifetime except to see other people’s mistakes.

  12. I also wish him well and its my prayer that he does not undermine our young boy Mayuka. May our lving GOD rewards u for bring joy to Zambia for
    lifting up Africa Cup Troph.

  13. Let him and don´t ever give him a job, lets see if he is going to make it. Everything has been experiments since the guy jumped off that plane.

  14. This is what power coachs do. They leave you with their own prefered ‘coach’. Seriously what does Patrice a friend to Rena know…NOTHING. We need to get a ;local coach to take over or hire a competent coach somewhere…

    • Patrice was the assistance to the Ghana coach and Renard was the physical trainer alas when they came it was the opposite.

  15. Like vast resource of water in Zambia but not making good use of it, even football talent in Zambia is the same. We have no proper training facilities yet we produce good footballers. What am saying is that Zambians are naturally talented in football. A clever coach can take advantage of this and make himself a name. In africa we have been on the football map for so long even though trophies were eluding us. Personally I give credit to our naturally talent and so much praise to HR. At times he spoiled the game through un thoughtful substitutes remember Lesotu game. Or even getting stranded wen scored and making substitutions 10 minutes to full time and you are under pressure and bringing in Chamanga for that matter

  16. Thanks renard for the Africa cup.Move on , leave us to start complaining about whoever will come and whatever he will do but one thing will remain true: you will soon be remembered every time we flop
