MINISTER of Home Affairs Edgar Lungu has rejected an appeal by Dan Pule against the decision of the Registrar of Societies not to register Dr Pule’s United People’s Jubilee Party.
Mr Lungu said yesterday that he concurred with the Registrar of Societies’ decision to reject an application to register Dr Pule’s party because its name was going to be associated with the country’s independence Jubilee celebrations next year.
“I rejected the appeal by Dr Pule because the name United People’s Jubilee Party would end up being associated with Jubilee celebrations next year,” he said.
Mr Lungu said he received Dr Pule’s appeal last week in which he wanted to counter the decision of the Registrar of Societies.
The minister said he advised Dr Pule to come up with a different name for his new political party.
Dr Pule has done so but is for now not stating what the new name is.
And Dr Pule told the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation yesterday that he has changed the name for his party because he does not want to be seen to be fighting against Government.
On Saturday, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo cautioned Dr Pule against involving himself in illegal activities by going ahead to unveil his political party despite the application for its registration having been rejected by the Registrar of Societies.

Why not just delay to register the party until the reasons for not accepting the name have expired, i.e. wait for less than 12 months for PF to celebrate jubilee on 24 october 14, after which the reason of feared confusion would no longer be valid? Just be patient, after all, you wont have any impact between now and then, and there will still be 2 years to make any impact you think/pray/dream you can have!

Pule must find an existing party to join. What is he afraid of?

Jubilee Party is going to be there long after the Jubilee celebration. How can that be an issues Hon Lungu? Zambians are smarter that you think. They cannot confuse the celebration event with the name of the party. Just give us other excuses.
