A UNITED States-based Zambian, Anthony Ng’oma has been named 2013 Scientist of the Year by Black Engineer of the Year Awards and Minorities in Research Science (BEYA-MIRS).
Dr Ng’oma, a research associate and radio over fiber manager at Corning Incorporated leads teams of scientists and engineers working on in-building communication networks and applications at the main research centre for Corning incorporated a 160-year-old high tech company located in New York.
According to a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday, Dr Ng’oma was selected from a pool of outstanding technology leaders from across the United States – from well-known institutions and Fortune 500 companies.
Congratulations Tony, Mr BENG.
That what we like to hear. Great minds at work!!!
Wonderful news! Please, keep the flame burning.
ati congrats – kanshi ni best scientist in Black Engineering for the minority – bwafya!
Nadabwa… the other weekend twalenya bonse with abena Anthony. I had a feeling that this guy paliba brain. Down to earth sort of a guy… But mupe Ba Anthony, now you are markeatable you can take even a Zambian minister.
Nostradamus you are very naughty!
As for the Doctor i have no words for you, you must be one bitter doctor even if it would have been leakage he must be very interlligent some people never make it even after being shown answers. Congratulations Ba Lungu, dont listen to Nostradamus marriage will depreciate your brain, just get a successful hot Scientist you will have bliss for the rest of your life, no pressure to make babies or change nappies, not that am against marriage, it’s the down fall of any successful life if you know what i mean.
Congratulations.
Good one! Congrats
@1.3 obviously you are not a doctor or you’ve understood that short report. It is not an award in ‘Black engineering for the minority’ whatever you meant by that.
This is an award given to blacks and minorities who are in science and research because many times their contributions are overlooked by the white majority who always want to stake the claim as leading in everything (if you ask me) There are similar awards for achievements in other fields too such as the NAACP Image Awards. Otherwise the man has done great. One more reminder of what Zambia has lost. Congrats my man. Think of what you can do for your country also.
@nostradamus
is this not the boy you were personally mentoring??
Eish, he is uuuugly! My goodness, what an ugly man. Nick and I will be cuddled in bed he is very handsome. That’s why I love white men. Most Zambian men are ugly and untrustworthy…
Thanks.
Naturally, he’s NOT Bemba.
congrats young man and keep it up.
This is good news and congrats Dr Ng’oma. I’m just annoyed that we claim him as Zambian when we had denied such talented citizens and their offsprings of dual nationality. The Americans have found gold in him and will never let him off.
CONGRATULATIONS ANTHONY, WELL DESERVED!
Wanu Ngwee, your brain is well represented by the coin your name represents. You are truly a Zinjathropus incarnate. Oh, by the way Ng’oma can only either be Cibemba name or Nsenga meaning a musical drum in both languages. Trbalist zinja!
Here is proof that Zambians in diaspora are not all care workers as you haters seem to think.
Life kubulaya is good! no machete wielding cadres here either. Shibukeni!
Tony is another smart person making the smart people of the Zambian Enterprise proud!!!! Congratulations, Doc. Proud of you!!!
nostradamus 1.4, what are you talking about? Has Anthony divorced his beautiful wife and forsaken his wonderful kids for you to say that? Wanu Ngwee 1.11, get off your rumor-lower lip so that your careless mouth can close. Check your facts again…
Rules were relaxed to favour Africans, that’s the truth. Otherwise, I don’t see how.
lekeni ukunya ifyakunya apa bacakolwe imwe. your friends are studying but you are busy drinking. nonsense.
What’s your problem. It is a great achievement. Why inferiority complex . PHD, why. Jut tell him that congratulations, and he has done us proud
You probably don’t see how because you don’t know better. Africans are just as smart, even smarter going by the well deserved award of Mr Ngoma.
You are so anoying lozi tribalist!
Check the prize title before you submit your shallow comment. The award is for BLACK engineers and MINORITIES in research. Just accept that there are some gifted people with more brains than you, don’t just think negatively every time you are put in your place, which is no place at all. The brother is doing great in his field, congrats Anthony, you deserve it.
You have a PHD(Pull Him Down) in jelousy sociology.
My friend learn to give credit where it is due. Tonny is a seasoned scientist by international standards and you can not dispute that unless………….
@PREACHERMAN
What have the lozis got to do with this story? Balilyapo ka-gelo kobe bushe? Don’t go around spreading your stupid ignorance because in the end they will judge everybody else to be like you chi-colour, wabe chi.nyo. If you have inferiority complex against the lozis, that is up to you. Ifwe bambi we don’t want to be lumped together ne finangwa nga iwe kolwe. Twanaka pafula nefya tribalism. Filekeni please. If you have nothing to do try searching for lice in the hair under your balls!
Like they were relaxed for Obama to be President?
let me google first.
Let me help you.
He has previously worked as a scientist at Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands), where he worked on multiple national and international research programs funded by industry and the European commission. Dr. Ng’oma’s other previous engagements include roles as a Computer Networks Engineer at Computer Technologies Inc. (Zambia) and as a Lecturer and Researcher at the University of Zambia (Zambia). Dr. Ng’oma holds a Ph.D. degree in Optical Fiber Communications and a Professional Doctorate in Engineering degree (PD.Eng) in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), both from Eindhoven University of Technology in The Netherlands. He also holds a M.Eng. and a B.Eng. degree (with Merit) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from the University of Zambia,…
He has authored and co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed technical publications and journals and two book chapters in the field of fiber-optic communication. Dr. Ng’oma is a member of the IEEE Photonics Society, and the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society.
Just say well done. It doesn’t hurt to give kudos where due. Well done to him and all others for their achievements, academic or not.
Oh awe uyu mwaume noti ba clive chirwa.CV yabufi
Congrats Dr Ngoma. The wise from the East
He is actually Ng’oma, not NGOMA… Congrats, Tony! Proud of ya.
Clive Chirwa,………………………………..
Iwe chimbwi iwe, nanga vonse ni tribalism? Muzativuta imwe .All I care is ,he is from Zambia period.
Ng’oma means musical drum in Icibemba. MWABOMBENI BA ANTHONY!
I can confirm he is Ngoma from the East, Mugubudu village
Mundia M, even in Eastern province, Ngoma means drum, so your point has no point
You write very long articles to do with Komaki, Bowman fimo-fimo, Chikwelete, Tekele, etc but one sentence or max 3 short paragraphs on more progressive issues like this one. surely you expect my son to learn something from Komaki story than he can from Anthony’s? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU EVELYN HONE GRADUATES???
I totally agree with you.We seem to focus on issues that wont build our children
A very good observation but spoiled by imiponto!!!!!!
Spot on!!
Congratulations Dr. Ngoma. Give a green pasture to a thin cow with a dry adder and tomorrow it will be wet and dripping with milk. Never mind the racist comment about “bending rules to favour Africans”.
It must be from a Zambian of African origin because whites and other races have advanced beyond the mediocre thinking that Africans are inferior intellectually. Mix more and you’ll realise this. Obama could not have won if the non-black races i.e. whites (europeans who form the majority of the population) had voted on racial grounds. Wake up you Zambians who are still insulting others on the basis of their race. I am balck Zedian.
We pray that the double citzenship close is included in our constitution so that more of our people can access the resources of the rest of the world…
Are you in Canada? I don’t how it is over there but here in America and I know in Europe and am sure in Asia they haven’t changed their view of Africans. The day they will do that, that will be the end of racism.Obama being president has not changed whites and other non-blacks’ view of black people. Not too long ago a poll was conducted about white people’s view of black people after more than four years of Obama as the president. It found that about 51% or 72% ( I don’t remember exactly but a good number) did not have a favorable view of black people. It explains why black people are not elevated to positions where they should be. Condemn his “bending rules to favor Africans…..” reasoning but don’t give a wrong impression about how Africans are viewied in this world.
Congratulations, Sir!
Congratulation Mr Antony we are very much proud of you, keep the flame burning. Don’t pay attention to the useless PHD comments from some useless people who are always there to criticise.
Kanofye ngafilewamina imwe bakolwe, atase muletasha.
In USA, rules exist where people who went to grass thatched village schools in Africa are given chance to win something. That’s this guy’s achievement and in Zambia its news worth!!!
where is your proof? besides, though that be the case,is he the only one who went to a grass thatched village school? so no matter how you look at it, he beat other contenders because the man is good. muletasha bwana!!!
What is wrong with you? Have you achieved more?
Kwena iwe fulwe ulichinangwa….
@Sata Wisdom
I just don’t what’s going on with your mind. Is it just difficult to congratulate the man on his achievement than mentioning the thatched classrooms? Infact what have you achieved yourself if you went to ceiling board covered classroom in the city?
Muletasha mwebantu.
Whatever it is Sir, it is an award you are not able to win. Please learn to appreciate. This guy has achieved something whatever the rules. Show us what you have achieved so that we can appreciate you. Looking at your blog name, you are definitely a Panga Fighter who has no brains of his own. Sata’s wisdom is the Omega and the Alpha for you. Good luck my man and may God bless you abundantly in your Panga Fighting endevours. Soon you will be promoted to the rank of Chief Panga Fighter (CPF) and be given the most precious Panga ever to be manufactured on earth. I’m sure you will be very proud of such a promotion. After-all it will be better than Ngoma’s award. By the way, I’m selling Pangas cheaply. Buy two get three. It is a good bargain!
Ulimbwa sana iwe…
@sata wisdom, I can see you are very ignorant and jealous.
Congrats. Shame to the haters and backstabbers
This is good news, Keep it up my man and congratulations
Congratulations ! Thats the way to go my man.
If they have done it, surely also can.
Not easy to emerge out and be awarded with such prestigious awards in such areas of study. You know how much committed one need to be in Engineering fields.
Stand up, hats off and salute the comrade! Congratulations Scientists!
please never accept an invitation by The Zambian government, to come and work under cadres , they will soil you like Prof chirwa
Word!! Better to use his achievements somewhere else than in this country where peoples’ minds change like chameleon colours.
Congratulations Sir. Ba LT ndiye nkhani izi mwamvera
Congratulations Dr.Ngoma
IWE LUVB PA NUMBER 4, ITS N’GOMA AND NOT NGOMA DONT DISCLOSE YOUR IGNORANCE HERE.OTHERWISE CONGTRATULATIONS TO DR. ANTHONY N’GOMA.SOON TO BE PROFESSOR.
Nywebo basuntwe, zyonse nywebo ngutribalism na? These names are common in most provinces of zambia.
Please read properly – the man is Dr Ng’oma and not Ngoma. The two names are pronounced and written differently. Congratulations Dr Ng’oma.
Congratulations Anthony! Way to go. It’s a major milestone. The next award must not be in the “minority” category.
Keep it up Doc! You are an inspiration to people in your field and its not easy to get such in the field of Engineering
Anthony Ng’oma for president not thing ngonga in state fimo fimo
REMEMBER WHAT I SAID
“ONLY SINCE AND TECHNOLOGY WILL BRING OUT OUR ADVANCEMENT
ANYTHING ELSE IS A MYTH”.
UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE CHAMPIONING MYTHS IN THE FORM OF USELESS
STUDY FIELDS YOU KNOW TOO WELL.
I agree with you@Ukwalinsoke!! We have ignored fields that can bring real advancement that can enable us to fully exploit our natural resources and we keep wondering why Asian countries that were poorer than us a few decades ago have made economic advances and are manufacturing everything for the rest of the world while getting raw materials from us, Zambia and Africa at large! We cannot even set priorities on what fields are critical for our industrialisation and what skills can give us a competitive urge over other countries to position ourselves for coming challenges!
What do you expect from fossils with Unipist mindsets; to them putting tarmac on a road and building useless football stadia then attracting a hundred temporary unskilled labourers is development which even attracts the head of state.
Our colleagues in Ghana and Kenya are currently embarking on billion dollar ICT business villages that will attract the likes of Google, Microsoft, IBM etc and in turn create thousands of skilled jobs in the private sector.
Thumbs up to Dr Ngoma, it is always good to learn that there are still some Zambians representing the country well out there! Congrats big man!
Congrates Doc Tony.. u putting Zambia on the map’….
Mbuya congrats though you the 2013 Scientist of the Year by Black Engineer of the Year Awards and Minorities in Research Science (BEYA-MIRS).
initially i thought it was a Nobel Prize in science by a zambian, kanshi ni Black Engineer & Minorities.
Congrats Mbuya Ngoma.
Typical bemba response. Ungrateful and jealous.
This is encouraging, Thumb Up
please don’t think of joining pF..you will go down..
Congrats Anthony! We are proud of you
Congrats. Always glad to see someone making progress. Forward ever.
Congratulations Dr.Ngoma. BUT let me advise you: If Micheal Sata approaches you to come to Zambia to take up a certain position, NEVER …NEVER should you accept it. The scenario of Professor Clive Chirwa( the great Engineer) should be a lesson to all Professional Zambians serving in over seas.
These are the guys are genuine and have made an impact abroad not those pushed by local newspaper healings just because they want a job home. Zambians can perform wonders in research and development. it is unfortunate institutions like Unza, CBU have been reduced to mere teaching because of no high tech equipment. Shame of present and past Governments.
Congrants Mr, but please ask them to come up with another award, the president with vulgar language. No doubt Ukwa will carry the day without competition. He has now started calling his ministers f.o.o.l.s Don`t ever come to Zambia for now this grade 2 will come and embarrass you.
Congrats Dr Ngoma, Zambian academics can only prosper outside Zambia. So keep on prospering where you are don’t even try to come back home. Those of us who were foolish enough to have stayed home are so frustrated whilst talentless people who just boot lick are the ones celebrated by the equally clueless leaders and populace. Take a leaf from Prof C. Chirwa and several other frustrated educated Zambians.
Ng’oma for President! Coffee, tea…anyone?
Solola Bye!
Hope Field Ruwe has seen this and better still I hope the government has a strategy to benefit from this without politicising the person and his expertise. .. we are not a lost cause under the radar zambian professionals all over the world are learning honing their skills getting ready when the time and political climate is right we will emerge and show case zambia well done to all the N’gomas and Dambisa Moyo’s out there..
conglatulations my name sake Anthony come home and be another chirwa.
There is another Prof. Clive Chirwa and N’goma wont be lured to Zambia to come and run Zamtel. Keep it up.
Like that at least HH can now this that He is not educated ka, I mean they do not know him in states on that level
Congratulations Dr Ngòma!!!! We are tired of hearing about lumpens like Chikwelete, Komaki, Kabimba, Bowman Lusambo, Scorpion Kadobi, GBM, Yamfya Mukanga, DEC Boss Alita, Kambwili (hoe), Steven Kampyongo, Masumba etc. This news is relief indeed.
Imwe mwe fibantu Kanshi mwaba shani??? Your friend has done something good, why cant you just say well done ?? I think balimilowa kuli satana …mwefibanda imwe…shaaa.
Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.
CONGRATULATIONS.
CONTINUE WORKING FOR YOUR SELF AND SCIENCE.
AND PLEASE DON’T BE LURED BACK TO ZAMBA.
YOU WILL BE RUINED BY JEALOUSY.
@ Truth Hates
Abantu bambi katwishi efyo balya… Bali gomauka. They don’t see anything good in other people’s achievements. Kano nga nibena! Ni ndoshi!
well done Anthony! Congratulations!
Congratulations …these are the people we should be headhunting as consultants if we want to genuinely develop our outdated ICT sector instead of corruptly single sourcing contracts to the Chinese firms like ZTE.
Anthony Congrats, Please Pls Pls, Don’t let them CHIRWA you,
I was almost Chirwaed
yamfwa mukanga u see better to archiev something by yo self than wait to be appointed and be called ***** in public. eh bola congrants dr ngoma
Zambia is truly rich and blessed in human resources, its a real shame …..how I envy our West African colleagues who treasure such resources. We only have ourselves to blame for voting in greedy fossils in office with short term agendas.
Wake up people! !
This is wonderful news and Dr Ng’oma is not the first Zambian with such excellence. I meet many Zambian graduates and experts excelling in various fields here in the UK and a good number are my friends.
The most painful thing is that despite having all these highly learned young people Zambia continues to suffer and retrogress because the old illiterates will not allow them chance to lead the country. Most of the brains of Zambia have been forced out by those selfish illiterates who depend on the jobless using machetes to keep them in power.
Just imagine what Zambia would be if all Zambian experts in the diaspora were given chance to apply their expertise in the country.
Spot on!!
True true Jay Jay, Nigeria will be soon ahead of SA in advanced development because it highly values people like Anthony and Clive…
Just look at Dambiso she is recognised and highly respected in the USA, Europe and Asia…but in Zambia all she gets is insults from empty tins like fossil Chikwanda and Miles Sampa who can’t even explain what subsidies are. The president of Rwanda personally invited Dambiso to join him and his cabinet for advice …..when have we reached out to our people and asked for advice? The only thing we are keen to do is offer them jobs so we can control and distroy the reputation.
*their reputations
people who think with stereotypes like you do not belong to this generation.
congrats my br u make us proud Godbless u
Educated not a kaponya real achievement not thuggery I like it that its ngoma not mutundu uja wina wa chi kawalala
Congratulations, Well Done and keep up the Good work. you make Us proud. Some Bloggers, Your Jealous will not take you anywhere, read what last Sunday’s Message was all about.
Just the right person to advise us with ZAMTEL but he has to let the Govt know that he is available to help
What did this guy invent? Is he the guy who invented the Panga? Or did he invent the machete?
inspiring congrats man.
Congratulations Dr Ng’oma a spice of news rarely heard in Zambia these days.
We urge president Sata to offer you a job as CEO for Zamtel to be revamped to world standards of a telecommunications institution and effectively provide the country wide networking so much desired. Currently private telecomms companies just swindle the public with mad call charges costs.
A successful story is when Prof Chirwa was offered a job as CEO of ZRL, according to Sata PF government Zambia today has a well developed railway system akin to those found in developed countries of UK, Germany, Canada and USA. We urgently need your services Dr Ng’oma, Mr Sata is ready to work with you.
What? ?? Another Prof. Chirwa??
Why not as an consultant since you don’t have dual citizenship? He is not naive like our Chriwa!!
* a consultant..
Please, I beggy, leave him where he is ! We don’t need another chaotic situation to erupt as in Prof. Chirwa’s !!!!
I agree with you, lets have more of such articles too of while keeping us abreast of whats happening in our country. CONGRATS Dr. NG’OMA! Keep up with the good works
@ quasquas Much as we need such brains and their input, Mr sata has not demonstrated his appreciation. Look at the Prof. Chirwa saga. Shame on sata
Congrats Anthony. Keep the flame high! May God continue guiding you.
For those who like diverting issues to tribalism, just know that Dr Ng`oma is a Lenje from Mwachisompola off Landless corner in Chibombo District. So keep quiet now. All I can advise Tony is that “ayikona kulibonesha taa“ meaning be down to earth. This is the advice Lenje chiefs gave to Mwanawasa when he became president.
Congrats! Back home our engineers fall over each other over ZRA and bank jobs. They have been been road consultants for ages but still can’t built roads themselves without Chinese input.
Spot on…Road engineer can’t even be entrusted to construct a bridge in Western Province! LOL
Bamambala authoring and co-authoring more than 60 peer reviewed journals is not a joke especially in an engineering and scientific field. Mind you Indians and Chinese in the US are also considered minorities and as a matter of fact these are the people spearheading most of the scientific and technological research . Speaking as a Phd candidate in an engineering discipline I can tell you that Eindhoven University of Technology where this guy graduated is a top ranked university globally. Give credit where it is due. This guy is hardworking no wonder he got such a high position in a US company. It’s not easy so many talented people globally want to go and work in the US.
What in the world is wrong with us!! This man deserves our praise!
Congratulations and well done!
Was that so hard to say?
But we won’t be happy until we sh*t all over his accomplishments. How many more names shall we drag through the mud? Kalusha, Larry Maluma, Dambisa Moyo?
The list goes on and on for great Zambians making a real difference out there. All we can see our own failure; and wish it upon others.
Wake up.
#OneZambia
Yesss! (*pumps fist*)
Just to be BEng is something unnecessarily comparable, but yet, this son of our country has done something a more worthy mentioning with his name attached. I believe all people and I mean everyone in the world should be proud not only for him, but for the world. As an engineer you do not archive anything for yourself, but the world at large and that is engineering. You only get paid to stay comfortable while trying to sort out everyone’s problems, and even after you have done it, people still expect better from your best. Good job Dr. hats up
Here is Zambia’s answer to her ICT deficiency, imagine if we connected our landlocked country to cheap reliable broadband fiber optic network. The number of jobs that we would be created in the customer service sector for International companies like banks, phone networks. Imagine the reduction in the cost of doing business…these are people our gov’t should be consulting with. They were more than happy to spend $200m on a highly ridiculously overpriced Chinese CCTV network but they can’t pay a Zambian professional a fraction of that in consultation fees.
Wake up people!!
You make us proud, Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are an interesting group of people. A purely professional achievement article, we manage to
1. Argue it on tribal lines
2. Some feel the need to throw in his supposedly uglyness and praise the white man they are sleeping with (I pitty self hating negroes)
3. Some argue marriage as a necessity
4. Throw in politics.
One would think we are building the ‘Tower of Babel’ and we all have to speak different languages.
Raise the name of this great nation!
The nation that is always against people in the diaspora except in cases like this one ???
Congratulations Dr Ng’ oma. You make us proud. I wish you more!
We gave the world Dr. Dambisa Moyo, even Bill gates knows her. Now we provide Dr. Ngoma. I know my Lozi and Tonga Brethren would also provide a great few names as we progress. Then there is our relatives from the north and luapula. Smuggling drugs into China.
Thanks Dr. Ng’ oma for flying our nations colours the right way.
Luvb and Wanu Ngwee,
This great achiever is Anthony Ng’oma and not Ngoma. Ng’oma is a common Bemba name from Northern province; Ngoma is an Eastern name. You may be interested to know that Dr. Ng’oma attended Chiba Primary School between 1977 – 1983. Thereafter he went and completed his secondary education at Kasama High School. He then went to UNZA where he graduated in 1994 and moved to the Netherlands where he did doctorate studies. He later migrated to the US where is currently domiciled.
Wow! one Bemba doing some good and you lose your mind. The rest of Zambia has been sending brains abroad for eons now. Dambisa Moyo :).
The ‘g’ in the name Ng’oma (from the northern part of Zambia) is silent, unlike in the name Ngoma (from the east), but it is one Zambia, one nation. We are proud of the young man.
I agree with Max Mbizo and say that:
The ‘g’ in the name Ng’oma (from the northern part of Zambia) is silent, unlike in the name Ngoma (from the east), but it is one Zambia, one nation. We are proud of the young man for his achievement.
Zambians never seize to amuse. One point they dis the “Diaspora” (in the Ukzambians article) the next they get exicited by remarkable achievements of the same diaspora they dis.
Great stuff comrade. Keep the flame burning. The sky is the limit. In the United states, irrespective of where one comes from, with applied effort, things work. O
ut here, we can achieve anything we set our minds to. Congratulations to you Dr Ng’oma.
An awesome achievement, congratulations! 🙂
How does will this research bring about change in the lives of Zambians.
@ Jive Talk. Just like your (pseudo) name, Jive Talk.
Thumbs up Mr Ngoma
We jst hope u shall continue doing better so that our country also can be proud of people like you
also ensure u do better for us back home
May God bless for your hard work
Just reading some of the comments above is enough to show you how some people feel about intellectual Zambians in the diaspora ! There is too much hatred, jealousy, envy, especially from the have-nots !! Some nonentities are even bringing the issue of tribe into this??? How low can you sink??? Out here we are all Zambian-born and we have a common passion for mother Zambia that brain-dead people would never understand !!!!! So we don’t care if you throw your tantrums simply because you chose to drink while others studied !! Go jump in a lake !!!! Scumbags !!!
Bauze…bauze bamvesese lelo!
Solola Bye!
Nadabwa… the other weekend twalenya bonse with abena Anthony. I had a feeling that this guy paliba brain. Down to earth sort of a guy… But mupe Ba Anthony, now you are markeatable you can take even a Zambian minister.
Especially one like Masebo- the hot bitch on hit…
Abena Ng’oma!
What have you done for Zambia in particular?
Congratulations to a rightfully earned recognition of a well achieved Zambian. I wonder if Mr Ngoma has retained his Zambian citizenship or if our insistence on choosing Zambia or nothing has lead to the loss of a countryman that we should ensure has the opportunity to pursue greatness in another country while remaining a citizen of Mother Zambia.??? too many such minds are forced to choose another countries passport to achieve globally.
