Former Defense Minister, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, has filed an injunction in the Lusaka high court claiming that a purported suspension and expulsion from the Patriotic Front-PF- party be declared null and void.
Mr. Mwamba was on February 17th expelled by the Northern Province PF executive committee for allegedly bringing the name of the party into disrepute.
The expulsion is, however, subject to ratification by the PF central committee chaired by party president Michael Sata.
The party’s top brass in Northern Province met in Kasama to make a ruling on recommendations made by the disciplinary committee appointed to study Mr Mwamba’s alleged misdeeds.
The executive refused to pardon Mr Mwamba and unanimously approved the recommendation to expel him from the party.
The entire provincial executive which voted in favour of the expulsion said Mr Mwamba had shown an excessive amount stubbornness when he failed to appear before the disciplinary committee on Saturday.
The party indicted Mr Mwamba for allegedly de-campaigning fellow party officials, and for displaying disloyalty to the party and its president.
He was also accused of being insubordinate to senior party officials and had reportedly demeaned the local executive committee members.
Mr Mwamba was also charged with sponsoring parallel structures instead of working with elected party officials.
Northern Province PF secretary Everest Chela said the executive found it difficult to forgive Mr Mwamba as he was a ‘stubborn individual’ as evidenced by his refusal to appear before the disciplinary committee.
“Mr Mwamba also refused to adhere to party directives as outlined in his letter of suspension which barred him from participating in party activities.
“He has no respect for party officials and he has been reportedly been fraternising with members of the opposition,” Mr Chela said.
The Kasama Central MP, who had refused to resign, had been challenging the PF’s top leadership, including Vice-President Guy Scott, to expel him from the party so that he could demonstrate his popularity in a by-election.
batata humble yourself.PF is not the only party.you always say you are very popular so dont worry stand alone and show us.good luck batata. banamutale kasama.
GBM, why can’t you just let go? There is no need to contest the expulsion. Those guys DO NOT want you anymore and forcing yourself to work with people who have rejected you is a futile exercise. Unless there’s something you are scared of, the only sensible thing to do is to leave them, and stand on another ticket or as an independent for Kasama central. It is dangerous for you to force people to accept you when they have thrown you out. Safety ku isunga wemwine.
You are the same people complaining about too many bye elections. Here is a man trying to avoid one and you are there urging him to just leave the party? He has categorically said he does not want another bye election as it is just a waste of public resources.
GBM, Tusha mudala. The only loser here is you.
Why you are all complaining about GBM? When Kabimba was expelled by PF Lusaka District lead by Chikwelete, he filed injunction to his Ministry of Injustice of which he is a minister. Sata chaired the MCC & Cabinet meeting to declare that Kabimba is immortal.
Now GBM file same injunction in same ministry and you discriminate him. We want Sata to chair that meeting and face GBM, backed by us.
When Guy Scott trumpeted that GBM should resign if he is man enough, i was one of the many Zambians who said he should not but stay on until PF trolls expel him which they have over-zealously done it. I said i would communicate with GBM the reasons why he should not resign. These are excellent theatrics for the civil society, the opposition and friends of Zambia in the region and world over. Lets faka speed with moto wambili on Chumbu Musholowa.
Other than pure thuggery and poor engineered threats, PF has no intelligent politician with ability to think through its misconduct in a strategic manner.
Why??? If your contribution is not atall required, why force yoself on the group…I thot political party membership was/is voluntary….therefore if its voluntary, your volunteer-ship is not required anymore…I do feel bad for u GBM especially that you contributed so much to see where PF and Sata are….
That’s a good question/observation. I am wondering too why he is so bent on recognition from this particular party. If he resigned from government on principle, why is it hard for him to leave the party on the principle? The only plausible explanation in suspect is personal gain.
@NIne Chale
Chale naiwe,,, you question has the simplest answer in the world. Resigning from government was on principle because the relationship between him and the appointing authority had broken down,,, BUT he is still MP for kasama, the relation between GBM and kasama PEOPLE not Macheal Sata is all honey and love, NO bitternes why should he resign?? besides why is your PF protecting Monde who was kicked out of UPND??
@Ndobo, thanks. It makes sense to visualize the problem from the position you have given. Sometimes I’m away from the blog for days/weeks and my feeble brain can’t store all these various political happenings so I just look at the bigger picture and tend to forget the important bits you have mentioned. :0)
@Ndobo, all your conversation with Ba Chale was cool, but you insulted GBM by putting in same category as ka Monde. Monde & Masumba can be employed by GBM and get better life than PF.
We tired of this “back to back” GBM news what of the court hearing about Lower Zambezi National Park that’s more important than this.
Its of no importance to us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you sure ask your dude he i already calling at midnite.
@Jay Jay, I can understand you miss hunting hynas with dogs in Lower Zambezi, those Range Rovers and Arizona transportation can be boring to you.
This man looks like he has no direction. Yesterday he was on record daring the VP to expel. Today he is expelled and he trans to court to stall the expulsion. This is circus of its worst kind. I am very sure those cancelled billion kwacha contracts have started biting. You cannot rely on govt contracts and at the same time throw trash at the republican president. Hemmay pretend that all is OK but deep down he know that he has a slow puncture financially. Ba Mwamba ii the boom. Just go and kneel before the of and ask for forgiveness.
where is your brain?
@chabwera
what is the source that news of the recording which GBM darred muzungu opusa to expel?? is it the post??
Ndobo, taubelenga ulembafye amalabishi? This man dared the VP to be expelled from PF. Nomba lelo ati iyo. Win a azalila.
@Chabwela you are lying. GBM never dared Scott to expel him. Learn to be truthful at times. Shame!!
NOW THAT HE HAS SHOWN THE WORLD THAT HE IS A COWARD I ADVISE HIM TO SHUT UP AND GO TO MR CHANDA TO APOLOGISE
All these disturbances cause disunity in Zambia. Big men fighting in media every time. We are fed up so, Vote-PF OUT (VoPFO)ASAP and then re-organise and re-unite Zambia. GBM is big man like HH. They are investors and employers who need respect and protection form all of us.
Janze kumbele, these chaps are just simple businessmen. Real ones behave like Dangote who had built a cement plant mwa chief chiwala. Zambian realbusinessmen are the CEC guys who like Dangote have stakes in Namibia, Nigeria, Ghana and Sierra Leon. Bushe if run a small fleet of trucks or rear cattlewith foot and mouth disease ninshi iwe investor?
Auto correct messing my post. Message is GBM has just realised His foolishness. He has been biting a finger that feeds him and now things have fallen apart. Those multitudes of Arizona trucks are no more raking in those millions everyday. It’s just a matter of time it will start showing. Belera sympathizers will be the first ones to start laughing at him.
PF has the most useless MPs
What has changed today ba GBM? According to media reports, this is what you said earlier, Almost a fortnight ago, Mwamba dared the PF to expel him if they so wished.
In an interview with Radio Mano FM presenter Marjorie Chibwe Musonda in a paid-for programme on February 6, 2014, Mwamba said it was not politics or the Patriotic Front that could sustain him.
“If you (PF) want, expel me. People are waiting for you to expel me so that we can meet on the battlefield. These people will show what they want…tell Guy Scott to chase me from the party if he is man enough. It is not the party that made me what I am, it’s the people,” Mwamba said.
“It’s not because of politics that I am here. PF found me doing well, I was not poor. Now that you have come in power and stolen, you think you…
Akanwa kamokene! That is Zambian politics for real ahhhhh, WTF!!
It beggars belief Chembele… you are questioning answers – uleyipusha ama answers?
He dared them and they called his bluff and expelled him now he has moved another piece on the chase board. That is the blatant ugly face of politics done in broad day light. I fear for GBM Good Bye Mwamba. You are toying with evil characters here and they will not hesitate to take you out. GBM having been the defence chief could not resign in the manner he did. He has too many national secrets and those of the head of state to walk. This is a patriarchs game and the more pieces you stake the better your chances of winning. It’s a rich man’s game whose financial backing is imbalanced in that Sata will be bankrolled by the tax payers to bring down GBM financially while sadly GBM will f00lishly use his m.
@ Chabwera,
You are very correct my bro, Pipo in zambia with money are very quiet , they are not even recognised . Look at the black zambians who are owners of the following companies: Copperbelt Energy cooperation, investrust bank, Madison insurance, Goldman insurance , former owner of MTN zambia, the owners are black zambians who are worthy much more than HH or GBM
GBM IS SIMPLY A COWARD.WHY RUN TO COURT? THE BIG BAG OF MEALIE MEAL INDEED. OF JUST HAMMER THE BUSTARD
Those villifying GBM don’t seem to understand that in a democracy, it is not unusual for Ministers to resign their cabinet positions but continue as members of the party. The reason which led to GBM’s resignation do not necesarily require him to also resign from the Party.
By remaining in the party, GBM is standing for a greater good, he is defending the values and principles of democracy. GBM is a victim of Sata’s desire to quash all dissenting voices and independent minds. Rather than villify the victim, the question to ba asked is – What exactly is wrong with GBM resigning his cabinet position, does that amount to disrespecting the president ? And what happened to the petition Willie Nsanda presented to the Central Committee to have Wynter expelled from the party?
@Rotten Teeth, it is also a Democratic principle for political parties to decide how they “rule” themselves within the party. Just like we have a National Constitution, political parties have their own Constitutions, laws, rules, structures, and by-laws by which every party member is expected to abide by. This includes disciplinary procedures and penalties. Which GBM, for some reason, felt they DO NOT apply to him within the PF. A big miscalculation!
I think we should not confuse the two; i.e. resigning from Govt on principle and being expelled from a Political Party for indiscipline or for reasons a Party feels is unacceptable behavior by a member. PF is NOT the first nor will it be the last to do this. UPND and MMD have also done it before and are at liberty to do it again.
You people feeling disappointed over this injuction should know that GBM is being strategically interlligent in all the steps he is taking. Yes He may do the easy and expected thing but remember his Lawyers are not only there to help him clear his name but also protect him, therefore, every move he makes may be under instructions from them, so think before you expose your limited vision!
@cindy; Ati lawyers are ther to protect him. My foot! when did you leave Zambia for the diaspora? In the 60s or 70s. Be assured that big invoices will follow and someone will have to dig deep into his coffers! Not wise if govt machinery is busy shutting your business engines down. some lawyers can be quite ruthless to get their proverbial pound of flesh
Why seek an injunction?
GBM has publicly stated that he wanted PF to expel him,so that they could battle with him for the Kasama seat. Why the sudden change in actions?
He said that the PF govt can’t feed him,yet he quickly complained about the termination of contracts he (as a govt minister) held with FRA.
Be clear with your political stances and stick to your principles.
Look at Given Lubinda.
He is clearly not part of Sata’s inner circle but PF know that they can’t mess with him.Lubinda is clean and the king of kabwata constituency. Not even the post can touch him.
GBM is no different form a monkey who was baited with a shinny object(love for money). He fell for it and got himself trapped.

He could have had a plan that changed after consultations hence running to the courts. We only hope he is smart.its not easy.
At Chinyama, I congratulate you for blogging without mentioning one opposition leader or fanning tribal hatred. Well done. It is possible to have intelligent dialogue without insults etc.,,in fact that should be the norm.
There’s one simple thing most pipo r missing on why GBM is contesting the move to expel him from PF. The simple reasons his going to court is the failure by the Northern province PF leadership to follow procedure before placing an axe on GBM. If you recall GBM did indicate tht no PF official from the province served him with a letter to appear before its committee to explain himself on allegation thy leveled again him. He did indicate shud the letter calling on him cum he wll be the happiest to go & appear for that committee & say his side of de story. Procedure colleages u dot nid to be a student of law at unza to know this simplest part his driving at
He should just stand as an independent or on UNIP ticket.
What happened to “Umwaume, GBM mwaume”!
Why has he turned into a CRY BABY now after daring the Party to expel him so he can meet them (PF) at the battlefield and show them who is really popular in Kasama Central? He got his wish, so why is he running to the Courts to save his hind?
Boasting mambala uyu for nothing when deep inside he is a “scared little man.” Ba Chidumbo GBM, time to show us all “ubwaume” kaili!
I don’t understand why people who are fortunate enough to have money think they can manipulate everything with money. We have another f00l who thinks he can procure the presidency with his money. Well, they are things money CAN’T buy. Among them good health, humbleness, likability, intelligence, wisdom, leadership, extra. All of which seem in short supply with…
Are we all not talking about a case that is already in the Courts?
The responsibility of running a country is a very serious business never to be left to damn *****s like has been the case in Zambia. When former Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane said it was a useless venture to rebase our currency when the underlying economic conditions such as hyper inflation and a chronic shortage of export oriented activities remain rife in the economy, he was accused of playing politics. Well, the man is fromnear Angola, Botswana and Namibia where there are functioning economies to talk about whereas where Sata and Chikwanda are from, the nearest comparable to an economy is Zaire, where is technically none besides the infamous “Umunthu na munthu ku libongesha mwibala emo abombela”.
God will surely judge PF harshly sooner than later coz resigning as a Minister is now acrime in PF! This should not bring about all this rott in PF! Sad indeed! Why????
Action speaks louder than words. What we know may not be the reason to what we have been expiriencing, there ma be more to it.Let us wait and see.
After ridding on GBM’s monies during the 2011 general elections campaigns, PF has finally expelled him on grounds not seriously known by many.
My advice…….
“GBM, you can just concentrate on your business and leave petty politicking, these will melt your wealth”
The PF was not happy with GBM when he gave up his ministerial position. It is the same thing when you decide to divorce a woman for her misbehavior, she will always find means to tarnish your name in every way possible. The paradox behind GBM’s leaving government is non of anyone’s business. It would be sensible to leave GBM alone for he has reasons for not accepting dialogue with his former party (PF).
Ba GBM now you want to stay in PF? You dared PF to expel you a thing which they have done but you call for an injunction? Man be umwaume as you are called. But I feel for you man as your business depends on Government contracts. Good luck man.
Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.
haaaaaa mwaume nafuti tiye nabo bangwele bapeleke GBM……GBM GBM i really like your move due them GBM ulimwaume sana go go forward janza kumbele
