Tourism and Arts Minister Hon. Sylvia T. Masebo MP has distanced herself from a statement on her Facebook page stating that she will do what it takes to defend wildlife in the country because it is key to tourism development.
Ms. Masebo told ZNBC News in an interview that the posting could have been made by computer hackers with evil intentions to create war between herself and Lands Minister Harry Kalaba. She says the public should ignore the posting because it was not posted by her.
The Minister has further explained that recent reports of her being against the Kangaluwi Mining Project in the Lower Zambezi National Park, when she appeared before the parliamentary committee, were supposed to be held in camera* [*in private]. She says her statement of not being for the idea was as a response to a question that was put to her on her thoughts.
Ms. Masebo adds that the project was actually started during the MMD Government and the PF Government only found it when it assumed office. She says she will not be drawn into petty issues by people with evil intentions who are making the matter political.

There is a lot of worked achieved in terms of geological exploration thus for oil, gas and metals around our country this includes our parks. Colossal amount of money and human resource have been spent because the mines will benefit and improve the lives of our citizens. For your information Chakwenga was one of the first gold mines in Zambia, then Sasale in Luangwa South National park. Mining can be achieved with no pollution, we need our MPs to make a good research and investigations on this before they could comment. There is a lot of data from the ministry of mines and the geological survey of Zambia.

We know these tricks of people blaming “hackers” when posts go wrong. I am of the view that Masebo’s Facebook page is managed by another person. I’ve followed her page with keen interest and some posts are always suspicious. This is the second time she’s denying her own post, the first happened after she posted on either Zambian Eye/ ZPP.
It reminds me of former Man City CEO, Garry Cook, after the email he sent to a colleague, disparaging the Mother to Nedum Onuoha of being ravaged with Cancer. Cook’s first reaction was to claim his laptop was hacked, that someone signed into his office computer while he was on holiday in SA. Thank God the email had an ipad signature “sent from ipad” contradicting his earlier claim of being sent from office computer.
She was commanded to withdraw the statement, or else the tribunal would establish facts against her. I hear that is what state house is specialized in: intimidation
We know that PF Ministers do NOT have the courage to speak their minds. Masebo is trying to save her job by supressing her conscience with regard to the pending destruction of the Lower Zambezi National Park.
Government Ministers must be reminded that Zambian National Parks represent some of the best World Heritage Sites supported by International Conventions to which Zambia is signatory.
For instance, the IUCN, WWF, CITES have forged links with the Zambian Government to conserve national parks with full knowledge of the Ministry of Tourism & Natural Resources and the Ministry of Justice, the latter of which provides legal backing.
Yet the mines are short-lived to enrich the few, whereas national parks can be sustained for hundreds of years to service the entire nation.
