RUGBY: Champions Arrows off to winning start

Defending champions Red Arrows on Saturday kicked off the 2014 National Rugby League campaign with a hard-fought 13-6 away win over promoted Chibuluma in Kalulushi.

Chibuluma managed to hold Arrows for more than 30 minutes before conceding a Kabwe Musonda try that was converted by Terry Kaushiku.

Kaushiku later fired in penalty to hand Arrows an away win.

Geoffrey Mutale and Ken Mulenga converted a penalty each in either half for Chibuluma.

Elsewhere, former league champions Diggers recorded a 22-16 win over Nkwazi away in Lusaka.

Ackim Mushota placed two tries for Diggers that were converted by Benaya Mukwamba.

Diggers’ Sam Lukonde placed another try which Mukwamba, who scored a penalty, failed to convert.

Later, McDonald Mushau placed a try for Nkwazi which was converted by Laston Mukosha.
