Instead of vehicles queuing for fuel, taxi drivers had to line up with containers for the commodity at Engen Service Station in Kasama

Government says the ongoing fuel shortage in Kasama District is artificial.

District Commissioner Kalanga Bwalya says motorists in the area should not panic as there is enough fuel stocks to service them.

ZANIS reports that the District Commissioner said this after an impromptu visit to selected filling stations in the area.

He said he has been assured by fuel dealers that tankers carrying the commodity have started arriving in Kasama.

Mr. Bwalya observed that the long queues that characterized filling stations were being caused by panic-buying by motorists.

The DC has since appealed to Indeni Oil Refinery in Ndola to consider giving priority to rural tankers to load fuel stocks in order to curb the artificial shortage being experienced in some districts like Kasama.

And a check at Chintelelwe filling station revealed that the station has 20,000 litres of diesel and 15,000 litres of petrol in stock while Total and Engen filling stations had also sufficient stocks of fuel.

Meanwhile, motorists have appealed to government to lure investors to put up more filling stations in Kasama to cater for the growing demand in fuel consumption.

One of the motorists, Martin Mulwanda observed that the three service stations in area have failed to meet the current demand for the commodity in the area.

He said it was now common for motorists lining up for the commodity for long hours at the expense of work.

On Thursday, long queues characterized almost all the filling stations in Kasama after word went round that fuel shortage was looming in the area.
