FORMER Minister of Defence Geoffrey Mwamba is today scheduled to avail himself before law enforcement officers at Matero Police station to answer allegations of assault.

Mr Mwamba, who is Kasama member of Parliament (MP), is accused of assaulting one of his employees and is scheduled to appear at the police station at 11:30 hours.

Police deputy spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that police will be “waiting” for Mr Mwamba and his lawyers at the scheduled time.

Asked what course of action will be meted if Mr Mwamba, fondly known as GBM, does not show up, Mr Hamoonga said that will be determined at the right time.

“As police, we do not speculate. So we will only tell you the action we will take after that happens,” Mr Hamoonga said.

One of Mr Mwamba’s lawyers, Sakwiba Sikota also confirmed in a separate interview that his client will appear before police today.

On Saturday, police searched Mr Mwamba’s Kabulonga home after he allegedly failed to report to Matero Police Station.

Police conducted a thorough search at his residence in the presence of his lawyers Makebi Zulu and Mr Sikota but did not find him.

  1. The Big Man has surely made friends with our popular Dr Katele Kalumba. For him to vanish before the police in thin air, he has got to have a befriended the Doc with disappearing technics. Show them guys. Kekeke

    • @CatPower, did you hear that they were even searching GBM under tables? How can such a huge figure hide, surely kano fye fwe ba ku Luapula.

    • @Nostradamus, did they also check in the swimming pool? We understand you Luapula guys can even hide under water!

  2. Zambians let us start floating a presidential candident now. In my views we do not have some one from the opposition with credible experience to convice Zambians.
I have some one who although is not a noise maker helped Zambia to come out of the financial woes. Without any tribal sentiments as some of the people would do, I would cast my vote for MAGANDE. He has a record of good financial performance juts like Sata had a good record of local goverment management.

    • Magande ,,, sold KCM .. finance minister at the time ..for a song … And you call his record good after what mwenye said in Hindu ?? What planet are you from …

    • @Kavuyi, how on earth can you even mention the name ‘Magande’ ?? that bafoon sold KCM for USD25m when mine was worth USD3 billion! The KCM Chairman (a Mwenye) was laughing at us because of the foolishness of Magande.
Kavuyi – don’t ever mention the name ‘Magande’ again.

    • At the time KCM was being sold Mr. Magande was not in Levy’s cabinet. read the facts not speculate. In the history of Zanbia it was only when Magande was finace minister when we had a balanced budget, prudent finacial management at ministry of finance. Even after the so called selling the mine for a song we benefited by intoducing windfall tax. What transpired when this mine was being sold was that the owners at that time with drew form the mine check the facts and comment

    • @Mbuzi, we never had a balanced budget under Magande. Stop creating your own facts.

@ cabbage, Magande became Finance Minister in 2003 after Emmanuel kasonde retired on health grounds. KCM was sold to Vedanta in November 2004. Yes Magande was Finance Minister when KCM was sold to the Indian dude.

  3. This whole thing about GBM has just been blown out of proportion by the unprofessional police and their vengeful masters. Notwithstanding the status of the person involved, such a case does not need a battalion of police armed to the teeth. Since this is the new culture we hope to see police conduct more of such raids at homes of assault culprits in misisi, chibolya and all. What a circus!

  4. Just for the quacks! KCM was sold when late Emmanuel Kasonde was Minister of Finance! I hope this sticks in your empty heads.

    • @ We are in Govt to eat. Thanks for the correction! anything to back you up! Some of us have short memories.

  5. Brig Gen Miyanda, kindly de-register your party and PF so that you can take over the sinking boat from Noah. I am behind you.
