THE Patriotic Front (PF) in Eastern Province has warned that those spreading false rumours that President Michael Sata was evacuated to London hospital risked being arrested.
PF Provincial Chairperson Lameck Mangani said yesterday that he had been receiving a lot of phone calls from PF members expressing concern over the rumours.
Mr Mangani said people should be aware that causing of serious alarm to the nation was an offence.
He explained that President Sata was fit and able to execute his national duties in his office.
“It is a serious offence to anyone spreading false rumours that President Michael Sata was evacuated to London hospital. Such alarm should be stopped by people more especially from Eastern Province,” He said.
Mr Mangani also said the PF party had performed well in all sectors of the economy.
He said he was extremely happy that the PF Government’s work had become visible to many people.
Yesterday, President Sata swore-in Mr Kapumpa along with Salome Mwananshiku as Zambia’s ambassador to neighbouring Malawi.
Mr Sata urged Mr Kapumpa to perform his duties in a sober manner as Zambia works to strengthen diplomatic relations with South Korea.
“I was the first Zambian to go to South Korea. South Koreans are extra intelligent people and I expect you to be sober,” Mr Sata said.
Similarly the President advised Ms Mwananshiku to ensure the same was emulated in her discharge of duties in Malawi.
“Zambia has a Constitution which you have taken oath, so what Constitution are they talking about,” he said.
Mr Sata reiterated that Zambia’s Constitution was functional and there was no need for civil society groups to continue pushing for the enactment of a new Constitution.
President Sata said there was no need for agitation over the Constitution as there was an existing Constitution already in place.
A hungry man can say anything as long as it pleases his only source of livelihood. He can even volunteer to go to the sun just to “prove” Presido Sata is very fit!
Mangani ukusabaila kwati naulya ka pushi sure! Do you know how widespread these discussions about Sata’s ill-health are? How many people are you going to arrest? Can your police cells and prisons accommodate the millions of Zambians that are concerned about news black out on Sata’s fitness for office?
I would expect that these guys in leadership positions would understand that issuing of threats will just be counterproductive. Let the president address the nation that he is fine and there is no cause for alarm if the PF think the rumours going around are false. Arresting people for rumours means the truth is being withheld. This is really going backwards…

When bullies fail to win an argument, they normally resort to threats and violence. From experience violence is PF’s preserve. Mr Mangani, your words are hollow. Which sector has PF excelled in? With the Kwacha at K7.15 to $1, embezzlement of public funds rampant, debt at a record high, mealie meal prices unaffordable etc. And you have no shame to tell the people of Eastern province that all is well. No wonder you lost the Chipata Central seat.
Stigma pa Zed… we will all be sick one day , it is human nature unless you commit suicide or die in an accident. Accepting this will be good for everybody unlike being evasive on the issue just creates more doubt.

No need to threaten people with arrest. The truth is that something is wrong with the way the current president works thus causing rumours. Further, it is no longer a secret that he is sick. If PF cadres are not careful, the situation may become comparable to a fully blown HIV patient who claims to be well when everybody can see that he is finished. Just advise the man to seek treatment from
a good hospital instead of wasting time threatening people with arrest. And I wonder what kind of disease which has to be hidden, when every Zambian has seen that the man is sick? Is it old age, cancer, HiV, or what? Tell us or we continue speculating as long as he continues finishing!
Instead of ill conceived threats, why do not adopt policy of openness and accountability?
After all, the President is not exclusive “propriety” of PF but it belongs to all Zambians which are paying huge amount to be governed in accordance with the Law and be respected as equal human beings without been threatened by political noncom appointees.
