Nkana shock Ahly

Share

Nkana ehanced their chances of booking a place in the semi-finals of the 2014 CAF Confederation after shocking visiting Egyptian giants Al Ahly 1-0 in a Group B tie in Kitwe on Saturday.

Legendary defender Billy Mwanza scored the important lone goal from the spot in the 50th minute at Nkana Stadium in Wusakile.

Seychelles referee Bernard Camille pointed to the spot after Nkana defender Noel Phiri was hacked in the box.

This is a sweet revenge for Nkana who were beaten 2-0 by Ahly in the reverse fixture played in Cairo in May.

The two teams went into the break after a goalless first half that saw both teams miss a number of chances.

Keeper Rabson Mucheleng’anga kept Nkana in the game after stopping three shots on target in the opening sixteen minutes.

Mucheleng’anga was forced to tip Ahmed Ibrahim’s free kick taken from the edge of the box before Festus Mbewe shot slightly wide from cloase range.

The win pushed Nkana to seven points, one behind Group B leaders Ahly from five matches.
