On the statement he made about joining politics

MMD President Nevers Mumba says he feels he has now grown and as a leader is now ready to occupy the office of Republican President because God had been preparing him for that role.

Featuring on the popular Red Hot Breakfast Show on Hot FM, Dr. Mumba said he has no regrets to over a statement he made over a decade ago on Frank Talk TV programme that he will not run for political office because the Lord he served was greater than all the Presidents in the world.

He said he made that statement years ago without understanding how God uses his people.

“I have grown, I have learnt and I have understood more and it is because of that, that I’m engaged in the political process. I have no regrets on that statement. I think any person who doesn’t change his mind about certain things he believed before means he is not growing. If you are going to tell me what you believed in at seven and you want to hang on to those beliefs then you are not growing,” Dr Mumba explained.

[pullquote]God can demand  me to do anything because I’m his servant and I’m not the one to say this job is too small or that job is too big.[/pullquote]

He added, “Serving the Lord is the prime thing that anybody can do. The gift of life, the best part of life is what is called growth, and anybody who doesn’t change his views about issues as he develops and grows is dead. So there are certain things I didn’t know at that age when I made the statement, as I have grown I have realized what my responsibilities are and expectations from me as a person. So I have grown to understand more than what I did at that time that God can demand anything from me.He can demand of me to do anything because I’m his servant and I’m not the one to say this job is too small or that job is too big.”

Dr Mumba said in a wide ranging interview that he is now ready to fully engage in politics because God had prepared him adequately for a role in politics.

“For instance, when I went to Bible College to study, as part of my scholarship I was cleaning toilets, I could say that was not what God called me to do but that’s part of the preparation. It’s part of the job that shows that you are appliable. What I didn’t know at that time was that God had given me the challenge to do politics alongside side what I was doing. “

On his Marriage

The MMD leader also opened up about his marriage to Florence saying she has been instrumental in his life and all that he has achieved.

“I thank God for her life, infact I cannot live without her. She has been amazing to me and God has blessed us with a lovely family. I met her in the Youth Ministry at Church, infact I was a Youth Director. She loves the Lord too and what most people don’t know about Florence is that she is a better preacher than I am. She went to the same Bible School and I had to make sure that she fell pregnant each other year so as to keep her busy and away from the pulpit because she was clearly outshining her husband,” Dr Mumba jokingly said.

On the current state of MMD

On the state of the MMD, Dr Mumba said the former ruling party is at a point where it has found some stabilization.

“Every political analyst understands that each time a political party loses power, you have a mixed pot of anxiety, emotions, expectations and the first two years is the most critical, as a matter of fact it is like you are in the ICU. It’s either you make it or you die. That is exactly where we were as the MMD.In 2011 especially towards the end of the year, we didn’t have a President for 8 months, our MPs were taken away from us to become PF Ministers, our seats were being nullified and our vehicles were being taken away, really the spirit of a lot of our members were in the dumps. So we call that ICU situation.”

He added, “When I was given the responsibility to take care of this stage, I had to trust in God and the faithfulness of members that surrounded me. Some of the troubles we had to fight were bordering on destruction of the party but we had to trust God for people’s aspirations to be protected in as far as their democracy was concerned. We had to be survive and so I give credit to all the members of NEC for a resilient fight that has warded off all these fights and tried to focus on why we exist and that is providing checks and balances and prepare to take over Government again.”

Dr Mumba said the battles MMD went through were necessary battles. UNIP went through them, unfortunately it was difficult for them to survive. In any case, we are learning from some of the mistakes they made,to make sure we don’t fall into the same trap but there are many differences between UNIP and ourselves. We didn’t lose with a big margin, the winning party had 66 and we had 55. UNIP was almost completely wiped out.We are now at a stable place where we can now focus on winning elections and start bringing back confidence that the MMD has a new team now and my goal is firstly to renew the MMD, to convince the Zambian people that this is not the same MMD that they threw out. There is new leadership with vigour that could meet the aspirations of the party.”

On the ruling PF party

He said the PF has lamentably failed to live by its own promises as a party founded on pro poor ideologies.

Dr Mumba said the removal of subsidies on fuel and maize has taken Zambians deeper into poverty.

“The PF said it will be a pro poor Government but the cost of living in Zambia has continued going up under it’s watch. The only thing they have succeeded to do is open up the eyes of Zambians on the need for quality leadership. PF has reneged on all its promises. A bag of mealie meal which the MMD left at K 36 is now selling at K 95, we are worse off now,” he said.

  1. I believe pastor Mumba has taken the wrong path. By now we would have talking of another TB Joshua in Zambia in the name of Mumba.

    • He strikes me as a person who was adorned by God to teach the gospel. This is where his strength is, politics is not for him. In politics you need to provide solutions not just preaching about your wife or what you have been through….politics is about food issues, the economy, security etc.

    • To be honest, Ba Mumba balilubana fye. Just like @Wimu and @Zed Patriot have rightly said, Pastor Mumba has taken a wrong path by going into politics. If Pastor Mumba had not gone into politics, this time we would be talking of Pastor Mumba being one of the greatest men of God like Benny Hinn, TD Jakes or TB Joshua.

    • I dont think so; for the first time he has sounded mature and acknowledged he was young when he made that call. For me its important that he follows the path God has laid for him. Its assuaring to see him grow

    • You can not serve two masters at the same time. Nervous Sekwila Mumba was brought to the fore when Levy ‘offered’ him the position of Vice President if he had the correct political acumen and to lead was his calling he would have been President by now. But alas he got corrupted by power and was of course fired. He will never be President of this nation because people don’t forget, he went to the mission in Canada need we say more and now he is head of a party thanks to the likes of Dora but even they now know this man is not fit to lead anything he is a schemer once he gets to the top things change. But he is a form five drop out what can you expect from such a man.

    • Sorry folks, I meant to write: He strikes me as a person who was ordained by God to teach the gospel. This is where his strength is, politics is not for him. In politics you need to provide solutions not just preaching about your wife or what you have been through….politics is about food issues, the economy, security etc.

    • charismatic and a better leader than the tribal pack.

the question is; do the people trust and believe what he says? they may but they dont trust his party.

As for the tribal pack… i can only scratch the surface why people will never vote them into govt…..No agenda, no national character or appeal, economic saboteurs, confrontational, liars, thieves, tribal, regional,

they are just a pack with nothing to bring home

    • Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.-Proverbs 18:2…..Try to read and understand before you type your nonsense.

    • @Wimu-You’re very wrong. You don’t understand the callings of God.T.B.Joshua is not Nevers and Nevers is not T.B.Joshua.David was both Prophet and King/President-Politician.Joseph was a man of God and managed Agricuture in Egypt(Joseph never preached per se,but he just managed agriculutre and fed nations),Moses was a man of God who led the Israelites from bondage to Canaan etc.Read if you can-2Samuel7:8.David became politician from being a Shepherd boy, looking after sheep.

    • @Zed Patriot-Poltics is about Human Gonernance-the sanctity of Life.Food, ‘security’ ,good ecomy etc.All these things maybe there, but sin or immorality can still be rampant. What does it profit a man to win the whole world, but at the end loses his owm soul?-Mark 8:36

    • @Memo-I agree with you.Let Dr Mumba go through the path God has layed for him.He has to run his own race.He is not a carbon copy of any preacher or person. The devil always wants to keep the Light away from pipo so that pipo continue to remain in darkness, like in this toxic politics we have in Zambia.Go Nevers,Go.The battle is the Lord’s.The devil is not happy, now that the Light has come into our Zambian politics.Your fight is more spirituial than physical.

    • Gen, if you comment about HH & UPND on an MMD story where HH has not been mentioned anywhere, that just tells me you are scared sh!tless of HH. It’s just basic psychology.

    • Either Dr Mumba or HH can make good presidents. Both have their strengths and obstacles that they need to work on. God bless Zambia.

    • Pastor Mumba has a calling to save this nation both spiritually, morally and economically.HH is a qualified economist and Accountant. He left his calling to become a politician.Chipimo Jnr is a decorated lawyer who has left his legal field to become a politician. Why are people concentrating on Nevers Mumba when a look at all other politicians indicates that other than being politicians, they have professional fields of their on.Leave Nevers Mumba alone to chat his political tourism.

    • Dr Mumba’s strengths
Has morals and integrity, Has a Masters Public Policy, is a Pastor, leading a party with structures in the country etc. Challenges to overcome lack of strong economic background when Zambia critically needs it in 2016 he can overcome this challenge by enrolling in an economics degree which he can complete when in office. Getting rid of the corrupt and violence tag of MMD. This can be overcome by continuing to rebrand MMD and emphazing on the need of peaceful politics.

    • HH’s strengths
Strong economic , corporate and business background, has morals and integrity, Strong financial standing, Strong in charity work, SDA elder based upon social media which needs to be verified. Leading a party of intellectuals, has worked hard on balancing leadership based on ethnicity, Economist degree, MBA. Challenges to overcome the tribal tag, him and UPND need to dissociate themselves from the tribal statement that was made sometime back and may also need to offer an apology on behalf of the people who made. Violence based on retaliation, he needs ebrand UPND as a peaceful party .Rebrand UPND as a party that embraces all and gain back all the strongholds that UPND won in 2001 elections. Surrender his life to Christ completely

    • Another strength for Dr Mumba he has managed to hold MMD together even during the most challenging times. God bless Dr Mumba and HH, MMD and UPND

    • I do not agree ba Pastor I was at Evangel Temple in Chingola when you defended the same statement during the conference.Pastor Nsofwa was also present. There is no harm to say that you regret having made that statement and ask for forgiveness.Do not be like King Saul (trying to justify) man of God.
You are on record and the tape is still there. You had said that ,”Things have changed and that is why Christians now are wearing tight Jeans”.So was your decision to go into politics. We are to focus on things that are eternal man of God.

  2. Good that imwe ba shimapepo have decided to come clean on this one. I was one of those who wanted an apology or some justification. Now that you acknowledge that you were naive at the time you said that, I for one forgive you. A true leader needs to accept where they have been wrong in tha past. I wont hold this issue against you anymore.

Can we now have HH to also address the ISSUE of only a TONGA CAN LEAD UPND, the slogan that put him in power. If they keep sidestepping this tribal issue I will forever label them as a tribal and regional party. If anything they need to offer a formal apology to Sakwiba Sikota who was victimised on the account of being Non-Tonga. UPND cannot just wish this away. They need to come straight on this one

    • HH is the only sensible politician to lead Zambia as at NOW. No apologies. The so called experienced Cobra is now cabbage rotting in state house. Experienced in hiking prices of fuel, millie meal and denying opposition to assemble. Experience in forming tribal government full of relatives. Give Zambia a break we do not need experienced politicians we need experienced economists to take Zambian economy to high levels. What experience has this kaponya government has? The exchange rate to a dollar is ever going up. Give HH chance to correct things messed up by these clueless CNPs.

    • Iwe, HH did not say those words and he has addressed that issue on several occasions but you bembas don’t want to accept his explanations because you have your own agenda. In your warped thinking you have convinced yourselves that Mudyakuku and Sejani were two very powerful tongas who forced 300 delegates at the 2006 convention, drawn from all 9 corners of Zambia, to vote for HH

    • There in lies the biggest UPND problem. Arrongance and entitlement attitude. Just because MMD has been in power and PF has been in Power, and now you think you it is your turn and it is now given a sealed that your HH is the next president. The fact that the tribal issue is still there tells you that it has not been addressed. You can burry your head in the sand and call us Bemba all you want, but the numbers don’t like. Just see how you will perform in the by-elections coming up in places which are not your strong holds. I bet you don’t even understand why UPND has been losing votes since HH took over and remember HH is the only opposition leader to be supported by an alliance of parties and yet lost. PF is still a big factor

    • Ba Muda, why are you discussing HH if he is not an issue? Why not discuss Sondashi or Miyanda….the simple answer is because you know that HH is the one most likely to occupy state house in 2016

    • Ba Muda muli ch!ouba fye. Landeniko fimbi. Why are you obsessed with HH? The topic is on Ps. Mumba.

    • Address to Bantubotatwe:-

The blogs by the likes of Gen, Saulosi and the lunatic fringe demonstrate the brazen hatred that these congolese, who we have nothing in common with, hate us. Make no mistake Bembas have a deep rooted ingrained and unchangeable hatred for bantubotatwe. These are thieves and deceivers. That is the congolese way of life.

We cannot pretend anymore. Whilst we have been trying through HH to offer an alternative leadership for the good of this country, all we get are insults. Anyone who demeans and/or insults HH is doing that to you the bantubotatwe.

Bembas are our enemies!! They hate us….and nothing will ever change them. Not even their satanic leaders.

    • @ 2.6 Siamanengo – Sir, if you care to read the history of Zambian tribes you will discover that they all migrated from somewhere, mostly from what is today Congo. . So calling others as Congolese is plainly d.ull. In the same way, there are thieves and criminals in every tribe unless you are too d.ull to see that. Also, not every Bemba speaking person is Bemba by tribe . So your hatred of Bembas is misplaced. I am Bemba and I don’t hate Tongas. In fact three of my closes friends are Tonga. So don’t generalise.

    • COULD THE FREEMASON HH TELL US HOW HE HAS BECOME CHRISTIAN FROM BEING EARTHIST?OR HE WANT TO DO DONT UKUBEBA ON CHRISTANS….

  3. Better to get this demotion of one man than the demotion all Zambians got thru 2011 elections that demoted us to be served by a clueless kaponya govt.

George W.Bush called it “the soft bigotry of low expectations”

    • Zambians need to grow up and stop pretending they have never changed their minds before.People once thought the world was flat, then with some discoveries discovered it was round, but with modern technologies and globalization people have gone back to calling the world flat.!.There is no reality just perception.Pastor Mumba may not be the best presidential material in Zambia but he is one of the few bold enough to stand up and question the status quo and challenge the incumbent. The rest of us are comfortable behind the keyboard.

  4. I find it absurd for Nevers to change his statement if surely his statement yrs ago came as a result of God speaking to him as a man of God.For me, if the statement came from God yrs ago, then Nevers has disobeyed God and for that reason he will never lead Zambia if he doesnt repent.Besides who can vote for MMD with all the wrong things they did only 3yrs ago.Not now! maybe 10 yrs from now.
PF is also behaving like MMD.If there is someone who will make PF to go out of power it will be KABIMBA and his small group of people in PF. I was very disappointed on sunday interview that Kabimba thinks that only poor people voted for PF in 2011.Dear open your eyes. Its time for another change.

  5. ‘Going into politics is a demotion…’ not all my body, my mind and my soul are into it. True its just human, full of perfect imperfections. Man would say something is immoral today but tomorrow goes to embrace it as very moral. Passage of time brings solutions as well as troubles! In religion people display what everyone may term as morally right whilst at the same time what they do behind scenes is cantacarious! That how humans are. Because of changes at personal level, family level, community level, societal level, environmental level, you name it, things we cant control, man is made to adjust for good or for worse. Live life fully, comes once. Human imperfections is a reality. What is alway difficult is combining religion with politics. The two alway fall out at some point.

  6. THE MIND IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE

WHAT IS THE POINT IN WALKING AROUND IN YOUR HEARD WITH A MIND YOU CAN”T CHANGE?

  7. @ ndeloleshafye its like you lack understanding of the English language, Dr Mumba said he made that statement based on his on understanding now that he has grown it has come to his realization that he was wrong…he did not say that God spoke to him on that statement. the bible is clear on that one “lean not to your own understanding but hear the spirit of God. Dr Mumba is a straight leader who does not
    embrace lies

  8. I am a born again Christian. I remember Dr Mumba creating the National Christian Coalition which he called an NGO for morals . However, it was aimed at dubbing Christians to support his selfish political ambitions. Brg General Godfrey Miyanda labored to alert Zambians that this a a goat in a sheep’s skin, because he was lying. Mumba called himself a man of God who cannot lie. Lo and behold, the NGO chngd into a political party and lies continued up dubbing Mazoka and other politcal parties in 2001/2. The man went under Mwanawasa and hey he wanted to oust mwanawasa and instigated diplomatic woes with neighbouring countries. The man untrustworthy -o morals that he preaches. He fired his Victory Pastor (Nsofu kitwe) due to love of money and control over others. I wld not vote for him

  9. Christianity is about the kingdom. Kingdom is political. Only *****s would separate Christianity from politics because even Jesus was only crucified for purely political reason.

    • If christ died for politics and not salvation of people, then i will quit christianity. Rev. do not mis reprsent Christ or else, you too like them will perish

  10. Sata has proved that even without a head of state the counntry can still run. This country does not need the service of a president there. for ka power HH and Illusionist flambouyant never mumba must forget. Shut up!

    • @ZP,
Not sure if there is anything Sata has proved apart from how one can steal from State Coffers.
His children are now able to eat two meals a day.

  11. If its tru that you are a born again Christian, then you have more issues in your life than the man you are condemning. You are holding on to things that happened more than ten years ago! that is unhealthy for a “Christian”. if you listened to the man yesterday, he has turned a new page and moved on but you are still holding on to what he has already dealt with before the Lord.

  12. Dr. Mumba i too believe when i was young that stealing was wrong but now that am older i believe – it’s a way to be rich.

  13. Ba Nevers, the statement you made was out of principle not that you were immature and remember you said it several times. If you can change on issues of principle very soon you will be saying that you are not called to be a politician especially when things go soar.

  14. Pastor Mumba should resign as a pastor because of misleading a lot of people from that statement he made 25 years ago. It is this same man of God who prophesied in 1991 that GOD showed him a vision of blood shed if KK lost the election to Dr. Chiluba he made this statement live on ZNBC TV through his program ZAMBIA SHALL BE SAVED, KK lost election and no blood shed we saw in the country, now he is apologising on this one which means this man he is cheating people in the name of GOD has said this to me, so can Zambians trust such a person to be President who can change his position on anything just to suit his ego?. Please MMD chase this man he is killing your party. Now I agree why Brig MIYANDA has not trusted fellow born again, he knows him that he has no principles and likes money

    • @ba true blue-To be a Pastor is not a job or career for one to resign, but it’s a calling from God.And the calling of God is without repentance or It’s not revocable. It’s not over untill God says so,not Man.You UPND spicies, you may not like Nevers, but hard lack to you,it’s God who can change what he has called him to do.

  15. Dont promise God what you cant do! However who has never promised God? Nevers is right unfortunately it is still not his time. 2016 is for UPND.

  16. Only quality is how you survived so far after many counter coups. Lets wait until 2016, MMD as party will be tested. Can they still get 55 seats. All are waiting.

  17. Belief in god and the worship of supreme beings is stup!d. The bible and the koran are id!otic books that have caused untold suffering in the world.

    • Just wait until your fellow lunatics from their fundamental side come after your black/white arse!!! I will be cheering them on.

  18. Nevers Sekwila Mumba, has messed up his chances of trustworthiness. Being a politician is largely a secular calling. Being a minister of the gospel is divine calling.

  19. So at that time when he was a vibrant preacher, he did not understand how God uses people. No wonder people were not being healed when he used to pray for them. What message is he sending to those people who were/are his ardent followers? Next time, he is likely to say he did not understand why he joined politics.

  20. The statement he made is still very true today “going into politics is a demotion”.God wanted to make him the head but he has chosen to be the tail by going into politics. He has demoted himself.Being a minister of the gospel is a higher calling.

  21. @Mwitumwa, I agree with you 100%, what most people do not understand is that Dr. Nevers Mumba is called as a pastor, and the callings of God are irrevocable or without repentance. If by the grace of God Nevers becomes President of Zambia, and I wouldn’t want to bet against that, he can serve for 10 years at the mlost, but he will be a pastor until God decides to call him home. So what’s this fuss about what some one said 10 years ago?

  22. BA MWITUMWA, plz dot blind yourself by following this pastor who changes goal posts every time when he wants to eat, in 1991 he was eating from KK that’s why he gave that fake prophecy of blood shed if KK looses election, am asking was there blood shed after 1991 elections? So should I be wrong if I say NEVERS is a prophet of doom. it was in the same 90s when he boastful sayd I cant be a politician because it is a demotion to seek political office, but in 2001 he stood as Presidential candidate why did he not apologise that time why wait after 14 years. The fact is NEVERS was never CALLED BY GOD he is just pretending and use the name of the Lord in vein to make money. The BIBLE is very clear u cant serve two masters so NEVERS has just shown his true colours.

  23. Dr Mumba has shown mature leadership by accepting his past mistake and immaturity. All leaders are chosen by God. All, including bad ones like … sometimes the idea is to teach nations. The Jews were in the wilderness for 40years under different leaders on their way to the promised land.

  24. I don’t know if this is supposed to be an apology or a mere confession of appeasement? If it’s an apology, it certainly too little, too late considering the catastrophic injury Nevers caused to his thousands Christians and political allies. Obviously Nevers is not immune to mistakes, however, it’s the way he maliciously navigated into politics that concerns many people. For those who may remember, Nevers lied when he initially informed his political party, at that time Nevers claimed he was started a movement which had nothing to do with politics, obviously that wasn’t true. The most egregious transgression was abandoning his own church and eventually his struggling political party. Who can forget Nevers snaking into the state house’s back door to sleep with Banda (figurative) in…
