Police and Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) officers have conducted a raid on the office headquarters of the Post Newspaper in Lusaka today.

Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) officers raided the Post Newspapers offices on Bwinjifumu road in Rhodespark in an operation linked to the media institution’s outstanding tax payments.

The team of ZRA officers arrived at the Post Newspapers offices around 10:00 hours and by about 13:00 hours the officers were still inside the company premises.

Attempts by Journalists who have besieged the Newspapers premises to extract information from the ZRA officers have been unsuccessful as they have remained tight-lipped.

The officers have been frequently seen going in and out of the offices perhaps for consultations.

The Post Newspaper is allegedly owing the Government more than K8 million in taxes which have been outstanding since 2011.

According to ZRA Taxpayer compliance status report as at 1st September, 2014, Post Newspaper Limited had accumulated a total of more than K8 billion (unrebased) in Income Tax, Pay as You Earn (PAYE) and Value Added Tax (VAT).

    • But alas see who things will die off. They will die in peace and the post will be free, free indeed Membe will walk and free the will publish their nonsense…Zambians are gullible they will so no Shitt

    • No one is above the law.

All citizens and business houses are obligated under the law to pay taxes and the Post newspaper is no exception.

Pay your dues or the law will visit you….. just like it has done

    • If Mmembe did not see this coming then he is a stupid man. Despite several warnings that Sata temunobe ,you must tread with care when going into an agreement with him. Most of us anti PF pundits saw this coming way back in 2012.

Mmembe and his team may be corrupt but it is utterly wrong to selectively deal with one corrupt PF top officials while leaving others untouched. In a normal country like here in the UK,kambwili, Chikwanda, Kabimba, and the rest of them corrupt PF officials should have been thoroughly investigated and their cases concluded by now. This is a typical example of selective justice perpetrated by the Sata regime.

Finally the chickens have home to roost.

      Kokolikooo wapya munzi wa Mmembe.

PF is a zambian mafia empire. Those who pay protection money, enjoy while…

    • You need to very intelligent and a good strategist to avoid Sata’s enticement which later haunts you to death. All Sata ‘s so called political friends he has dealt with them severely.

I said it many times, Sata is master dribbler.

    • Mumembe king maker, let us see if you have the muscle against state machinery. Recall you do not enjoy majority support from Zambia public. You seem to be uninsulated at the moment with your past news paper not doing so well for now.

    • Post haters you will choke with envy. This raid will yield nothing as the Post editor is a law abiding citizen. The fishing expedition will not catch any fish. Some readers here are hallucinating that the post is not doing well. Combined sales by Daily Nation, Daily Mail, Times and the rest cannot total what the post sales everyday. Only in your dreams, especially UPND cadres.

    • @ Action Man
You sound like Fred M’membe himself in his delusional state of deceipt n hoodwinking using the printed word. The fact that Post Newspaer finds itself in such a situation barely a month after Kabimba was fired only exposes a few things we already know. 1. The PF and Sata are not allegic to corruption 2. All Zambian institutions operate on PF instructions 3. The Post newspaper is in deep trouble and this is the begining of the end 3. The post would have “bought” time with Court battles had it been RB times,. Sata he will finish them off before they get near the courts 4. M’membe must be wishing he had campaigned for…Not sure between HH or MMD? 5. He now finds himself between a hard place and a rock. We shall wait for your screaming headline about “Saint Micheal”.

  1. Yalula nkani! While the cobra is away the cleaning up begins. What an anniversary gift PF is giving to Fred! Exactly three years to the day! kikiki! aaaayyyaaassss!!!

  2. Cannot WAIT for tomorrow’s post editorial although knowing Fred, he will talk about climate change instead of what ails him.

  3. HH should be laughing the loudest now….seing those that had joined hands together against him carnibalizing each other….Fili ukotuleya….

  4. This is the best news of the day. They should ensure that the chap pays all the outstanding taxes. In addition the chap should pay all loans he has been avoiding to pay. Meembe is not above the law. Let the law visit him. He claims to be fighting corruption when the chap is busy avoiding taxes and loans.

  5. Mickey mouse would be more professional in his approach than the crude methods being employed by ZRA. They have been sitting on their a@%ses for three years doing nothing while M’membe is brazenly pocketing P.A.Y.E. and VAT which the govt ‘legally’ extorts from tax payers. Why hasn’t he been remitting this money? What was ZRA doing about this all along? Now that the Daily Nation has blown the whistle not only on the Post paper but also on ZRA’s gross incompetence, they want to be seen to be working, and going about it savagely.

  6. REMEMBER THE BEMBA SAYINGS ” ICHIKUPEMPULA ECHIKULYA. ” UKULU UNDAPA EKUKUNYANTA. ” UMULINGO ULINGILA ABANOBE UKUKAKULINGILA’

COBRA SATA AND PF HAVE USED FRED MMEMBE TO THE THEIR BEST ABILITY. NOW IT’S TIME FOR THEM TO TURN THE THEIR MISSILE ON HIM.

I CAN FORESEE, THE NEXT PERSON IS DR. GUY SCOTT THE TIME TO FIRE DR. GUY SCOTT IS VERY RIPE FOLLOWING HIS COMMENTS OVER HIS NON ACTING APPOINTMENT..

  7. The daily nation will prevail and replace the post. i am keeping the last issue of the post today for posterity. issue number 6549

    • Guys, the so called Daily Nation don’t have the steel balls Post have. When the Post turns its missiles of Corruption, Tribalism, bla, bla ……. towards PF, I can assure say bye bye to PF! wait and see.

  8. If Mmembe is surprised, he is a fool; because we all saw it coming. Uzavina ndendeule, boma ni boma. You are paying the price fred for abandoning the masses for gutter journalism.

  9. I can only imagine what Sata would have done or Mmembe would have said if HH had never paid 20 ngwee of his taxes in all his businesses? They have tried every trick to find faults in his dealings but thankfully the man has continued to be a clean businessman.

  10. Now our party PF and the ministers are working. Please ensure that money is collected. But knowing politician you will hear that anything wrong has been found , hence I wont comment much because the post may be on me tomorrow using the very police for sata. anyway no smoke without fire.

    • Cows do not roost… are you a chicken in denial? Zambians never learn. We think when we befriend the powerful it is time to a.s.sholes. This is why this spectacle keeps repeating itself on different actors. What a country.

  11. If it involves none payment of tax, what is the role of the police force? ZRA, Where were they 2011-14? The Police should investigate thorough b4 arrest ing someone who gave permission fo the news paper company not to pay tax.

    • Its only Mmembe who owes ZRA money. Sata ‘s Illunda chalo, and most of Sata’s family forest ‘s businesses are also in tax arrears but nothing is being done to them. I hope this answers your question.

PF is a mafia empire. As long as you continue to sing praises to PF and paying protection money to them, enforcement agencies will leave you alone .

Mmembe is being punished because he has stopped praising PF like he used to do.

  12. The Post is the paper that thrives on malice, innuendos, character assassination and tribalism. Paying tax is an obligation of every Zambia, the Post is not an exceptional paper!! Lelo lelo

  13. why is that whenever the going is good all is well or swept under the carpet? our democracy is being threatened left right and centre by this unprofessional manner we are handling our affairs in this country. we may not like the Post but if i was the Editor at the Post, my editorial headline should read ‘WHY NOW?’. the post have not been good to the cause of democracy but the principle should override our collective hate for them to condemn the wrong the state has engaged in over the years from UNIP to date nothing has really changed. WK was a darling for the ZP but today he is enemy number 1. i miss men like GEN Miyanda mwe.

  14. its wrong for one to think he or she is better than other post calls pipo all sorts of names yey they are not clean. lets learn to build one another be it NGO, church, ruling or oposition becoz we are all weak

  15. As I earlier analysed!God has been on the marjority poo r for many years but crooked politicians such as Vj;Old munkombwe; Ailing Old Sata; Red lips Kabimba; Fred mmembe and many others are now lossing it!Zambia on a verge of having a Life President for people may refuse to replace him should he do the expected and overwaited economic -political -social revolution! Surely God is Good in all the Times!

  16. It is now appropriate to say to Fred, 2 things:
First ” Ichalo tachitalala nga musunga.” You may think you are in control but it is all vanity. You have a thousand psychophants all over the world appointed by Sata from the Post but they will all run away from you now that their bread is buttered by Sata.

Second, ” Only the truth can set you free.” What were you doing writing propaganda for a political party? You abandoned the truth to peddle hatred and lies for PF? Neither the PF nor any political party can protect you. Only the truth can. And since you abandoned it, the truth will not be there for you. In the end they will even grab the trucks from you as “proceeds of crime. ” Remember that one from Nchito! Best of luck!

  17. Reading these postings you would think Zambians invented the word schadenfreude! No wonder there are conspiracy theories when things don’t turn out as blogged…

  18. “Attack is the best defense”, so they say, and FM believed in this wholly. Look at the way he has been attacking the PF lately, literally accusing them of corruption. Seems the idea was to show that more can be “exposed” if they dared touch him on his transgressions if there were any. The dictum works almost without exception, but seems this time FM miscalculated big time.

  19. In my estimation the post died a long time ago – I remember not too long ago they had the audacity to charge to read the paper on line. This backfired as they were quickly replaced by other free on line papers. It is immoral for ZRA and police to only move now over unpaid taxes. It makes them complicit in this petty vindictive and destructive system of government and proves that our law enforcement agencies are only the vigilante arm of the ruling party whose chief role is to use strong arm tactics against government opponents. Zambia needs a complete rebirth on every front in order to evolve from this crass and destructive system of governance – we cannot in good conscience bequeath this hopeless system to our children. Question is will we rise to challenge

  20. Everyone in the same line of business must pay taxes in equity and fairness One of the mark of FDI attraction is equity in tax applicable rules and laws but then with a motive genuinely distressed firms in those sectors

Again its not only tax evasion or non payment but also tax “‘ inversation”‘ by carefully playing the tax games in treaties and setting up of fore example head offices but benefiting from Zambia’s services and resources

Certain Professions like tax administration qualifications must be also be supported to have professionals with a notch to help us not generalists.

Issues of tax are now like a contribution profit margin decisions with considerations of world regions to…

  21. With a motive to genuinely help distressed firms. Its not only tax evasion to look at but cases of tax “inversion”. Carefully selection of setting up central operating offices like whilst benefiting to maximise on Zambia’s resources in civil and other services without paying taxes marginally to finance the same

“certain words were cut above on my first post I thought I had to clarify””

  22. Sata for sure is a man of action!see now in PF no one is above the law.that’s why I’ll ever vote for PF!with or without the post any PF presidential candidate in 2016 and beyond will win easily!yo HH will keep on losing and only winning in southern, mark my words!

  23. The Post Tax issue is not even complex especially as it involves vat and payee straight forward looking and analysis financial statement reveals more to close a case in example also is ”taxes on repatriated foreign earnings by making loans to a new foreign parent company created in a tax inversion deal. Very common on many Financial statements but yet not noticed

Its like gaming the tax system depending which side you are whether reporting accountant or tax authority

We need to be in the game with constant recheck investing in our custodians

  24. But again ,Nothing tangible happens in Zambia…this case will eventually die like so many before it- Chilubas 440 million dollars,Zamtrop account , Zambia airways, DBZ Fiasco with MMembe and culprits will be free laughing at the zambian Judiciary and flashing their kudos!!!!!!!!
I love african Politics … do what you want there is no law and order .LOL
