Teachers’ threaten class boycott

Share

Some teachers in Chilubi District have threatened to go on a class boycott if Government does not pay them their remote allowances before this month-end.

Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) District Chairperson Charles Sichilima disclosed the development to ZANIS in Kasama today.

Mr. Sichilima said the teachers, who have not received their remote allowance since April last year, resolved to down tools during a union meeting held at Yombwe Basic School in Chilubi yesterday.

He explained that teachers have been patient with government over the non-payment of their outstanding remote allowances but that up to now nothing tangible has come forth.

Mr. Sichilima has since appealed to the Ministry of Education to take the plight of teachers in Chilubi seriously considering that the area is one of the least developed in Northern Province.

He further said education authorities should not wait for teachers to protest before they could source for money to meet their demands .

About 38 teachers drawn from various Basic Schools in Chilubi District have not been paid their remote allowances for over 10 months now.

But education authorities in Chilubi have assured the affected teachers that they would get all their remote allowances from Government.

The authorities have asked the teachers in the District to continue with their normal duties in order to avoid disturbing the school calendar this year.

  2. “Some teachers in Chilubi District have threatened to go on a class boycott if Government does not pay them their remote allowances before this month-end.”

Please teachers, boycott as much as you can for they 17 year old GRZ has taken you for granted. Imagine, how much money they are spending to evacuate old sick GRZ officials to South Africa and yet they forget to pay you or send a young government sponsored 3rd Year Medical Student in cold weather, -25 degrees, Russia Mr Cardson Kabwe, 25 yrs, for a heart disease operation without relatives to look after him.

Also, remember to give them MMD are RED CARD in the 2011 tripatite elections so that some caring GRZ can give you your money.

  3. If y’all don’t get paid…use the language our leaders in Government understand best. Boycotts are not necessary effective particularly in this matter but then again, if this is the only choice y’all got, then by all means go for it. Who is going to feed your families if you go for work and put in as many hours as you do with dedication, to educate the future generation of our beloved country yet, you don’t get paid? You have sold your labour to the Government…although not at a very good price, you deserve to get paid. The Minister of Education and his cronies, I bet y’all has never, no once missed his salary…so why should y’all?:-w

  4. The Govt has money. They must pay them. These teachers have sacrificed alot. Its not easy to save in the rural areas like Chilubi district.

  6. The Govt., has the money, the are wasting it on Edith Nawakwi taking her to Addis Abbaba & other non productive ventures like the NCC. Just strike, dont even give them warning. I propose they put u on the NCC so that u start getting 500,000 per day. There they have the money but to pay u they abrogate. Atase. The Govt., top cats dont even visit you, busy at arcades and Manda Hill shopping centres whilst u wallow in poverty in rural Zambia. Atase, strike.

  7. “Mr. Sichilima said the teachers, who have not received their remote allowance since April last year, resolved to down tools ”

Why not just say ‘cholk’ instead of ‘tools’ :-??

  8. Let the government be serious at least for once! Those teachers are suffering in the bush. Don’t just say be patient, do something and let it be soon ala!

  9. Let the teachers be paid their monies. The RB Government is just wasting tax payers money on Edith Nawakwi trip to Ethiopia, for what, when she is in the opposition. What contribution did we get one her being included in the delegation. RB, Do not waste our money like that. I do not pay my tax to be used wastefully.

  10. Moderator # 15 Thats a big insult to the teaching profession, We do not just use chalk as the only medium of information. There are a lot of tools involved in the development of a child from pre-school through to post- school . The tools of trade in the teaching industry are quite vast and should not be confined to just chalks. Be realistic. In fact LT should ban you for the insults you produced on the 3rd February on the other string.

  11. How do the Education authorities say the Government will give them as
as if they own the government or know what cats.Let them
boycott so that the Niandules can wise up.:-?:d

  12. Guys I feel for you.
The only language govt. understands is the strike action..so go for it.
    We back you 100%

  13. Just boycott, these selfish leaders we have are only interested in their affairs and one else’s. Only when you boycott will you atract their attention or even rioting can do.

  14. GRZ, Just pay them their funds, rather than paying fake pastors and bishops and non contributing so called “commissioners” like vera sitting on NCC and chewing large sums of our tax. These teachers are making good contribution to our development and have sacrificed a lot to improve literate levels in rural zed.

    pay them pls.

  15. Public funded education is just an unnecessary cost. they should privatise all GRZ run schools and you will see the wonders that will be performed.

  16. Come on teachers, lets be serious. Everytime you threaten, noone takes you for real. Stop threatening. Just do it for real!!!

  17. Go go Teachers, boycott.
    I support you .
This is what the govt wants you to do before you can get your money. Go Go go Go Go Go Teachers, boycott.
