The United Nations flag will fly at half-mast worldwide on Tuesday in honour of His Excellency Mr Michael Chilufya Sata, late President of the Republic of Zambia.

The United Nations Protocol and Liaison Service informed the Zambian Mission in New York that the flag of the UN would be lowered to half-mast at all its offices worldwide on Tuesday morning, the burial day of President Sata.

Diplomatic staff at the Zambian Mission and other dignitaries will witness the lowering of the flag at UN Headquarters.

The Protocol and Liaison Service further informed the Zambian Mission that flags of all the 193-Member States would not fly on Tuesday in honour of President Sata.

The United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, October 30, 2014, held a special tribute session to President Sata at which Member States praised the legacy of the departed Head of State.

President Sata died on October 28, 2014 and will be put to rest on November 11, 2014 in the Zambian capital, Lusaka.

  1. Our president is gone. May Mr. Sata’s souls rest in eternal peace. I personally will miss his sense of humour and the jokes.

    • Why not after raw things got worse when he was about to address UN…Am told White House,10 Downing Street & Buckingham Palace will fly the flags @ half mast.BBC,Aljezera,CNN,ZNBC,MUVI TV & SABC to show live coverage during the burial of King Cobra.

    • Continued…In Scotland it will be a holiday too like Zed after Mushota convinced the prime minister because their own son Guy Scott is the first white after FW De Klerk of SA …

  2. The UN has done a “donchi kubeba” on these clowns at the Protocol and Liaison Service and the ignoramuses have swallowed it!

The flags will be at half mast to mark ARMISTICE DAY on the 100 anniversary of the ceasefire in WW1.

They just B.S.ed you that it was for UKWA!!!! Now he can be buried with another joke!

    • Yes they also want to use the same occasion to honor president Sata because they occasions have coincided. No need to being arrogant or exposing your hatred or dullness!

    • DONT BE IGNORANT. FLAGS DO NOT AT HALF MAST ON ARMISTICE DAY (ALSO CALLED VETERANS DAY). THIS IS A DAY OF CELEBRATING OUR VETERANS NOT MOURNING THEM. THE UN ENCOURAGES FLYING MILITARY FLAGS ON THIS DAY BUT AT FULL MAST. RESEARCH BEFORE SHOWING YOUR IGNORANCE.

    • HAHAHAHHAHAHAH awesome!! that makes sense…i was just thinking how it was a nice but odd thing to do for someone who was not exactly a significant player on the world stage…youve made my day @Permalink

  3. Yes, Sata is gone for the good of the nation and Zambia should move on with good governance, rule of law, accountability and transparency. Secrecy of governing, ‘Donchi Kubeba’, lies and tribalism have to go with Sata. UN flag-mast world wide – oof, my foot who is/was Sata in the world any way! except liar and oppressor of those who opposed him and his PF govt. Leave the world alone.

  4. Some people can hate not only un individual but a tribe even in death.the only reason we don’t answer to tribal sentimentes is that they are retrogressive and all well meaning Zambians know that.

  5. It’s hood that there are many people and organizations that appreciated Sata and his work for mother Zambia. Some people hated him and continue hurting amd hating even when the man has departed. I hope one day the country will see his works as such are only realized and seen after a few years. MHSRIP and may continue the peace in Zambia!

  6. Flags at half mast to on Armistice Day in “respect” of a man who fostered party violence?

I don’t think so coz Sata wasn’t all that and was even shunned in our region.

  7. Really laughable…do a fast one on these empty tins in PF they will not know the difference between the 11th day of 11th month on the 11:00 hour and the burial of their incompetent deadwood Party chief.

  8. Zambians are funny how they peddle a lie and start propagating it. The Liaison Office informed the Zambian mission about the lowering of the flag. Because you think conspiracy you want to align it with Armistice just to drive an ill-thought agenda. Eat that! Even in his grave he is causing you great discomfort!!! The poison chalice you swallowed might kill you chaps if you don’t let go.

  9. These tribalists are very useless indeed!! They hate the president up to death some are even showing crocodile tears including there leader.they will never rule this country with there kind of behavior.

  10. Thank you United Nations. We value your support at this time.

It has lifted our spirits in our time of deep sorrow.

President Sata was a democratically elected President, and as such is of great value to us, in Zambia.

    We thank you.
