Zesco are 2014 champions, Warriors relegated

Zesco United are the 2014 FAZ Super Division champions.

The Ndola side beat Kabwe Warriors 3-1 at the Trade Fair Grounds on Saturday afternoon.

A brace from Winston Kalengo in the 34th and 37th minutes and the final goal in teh 90th minute from Simon Silwimba handed Zesco their fourth league title.

Warriors scored their consolation goal in the 49th minute through Josphat Kasusu.

Zesco’s win handed coach George Lwandamina his first-ever league title as coach since winning two titles as assistant coach at Mufulira Wanderers in 1995 and 1996.

And Warriors defeat means they are relegated after Green Buffaloes beat Indeni 3-0 at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka.

Sebastian Mwansa, Felix Sunzu and Kennedy Chola scored the all important goals to secure Buffaloes survival.

Meanwhile, Zesco had Red Arrows to thank for the title after they beat Zanaco who had led the table coming into Week 30 and only needed a win to clinch their seventh crown.

However, Zanaco fell 4-0 away at Arrows.

Bruce Musakanya and Stanley Nshimbi were on target while Francis Kombe added a brace to save Arrows from the drop.

Zanaco tumbled from first to third after the loss to see Power Dynamos sneak into second place after a 1-0 home win over Nakambala Leopards at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

Ignatius Lwipa headed-in Power’s lone goal in the 41st minute to secure second place for this seasons early pacesetters.

  1. If it is anything to forecast the outcome of January 20th, 2015 bye election results with, I would be happy to see HH win even by 2% or two votes.

  2. George Lwandamina was unjustly fired by Red Arrows. He has just won the league and the team that fired him has just survived relegation. the lesson is let us be level headed and professional when hiring and firing managers.
