United Party for National Development(UPND) National Chairperson, Mutale Nalumango has refuted the impression created by a news item on ZNBC that His Royal Highness the Chitimukulu had endorsed the UPND Presidential candidate Mr Hakainde Hichilema.
In a statement released to the media, Ms Nalumango said that the truth of the matter was that His Royal Highness welcomed President Hakainde Hichilema and his entourage and had wonderful and private discussions when Mr Hichilema, as per tradition, paid a courtesy call on His Royal Highness.
“UPND, wish to reiterate that we shall not politicise traditional leadership like the PF has been doing since they came to power, ” read the statement
“We believe that traditional leaders should be allowed to operate in a free environment as provided for in the constitution.”
Yesterday ZNBC reported that the Chitimukulu has blessed Mr. Hichilema and wished him well in the upcoming elections. The report further said that Chief Chitimukulu became the second traditional leader to endorse Mr Hichilema for the January 20 by election, after Senior Chief Nzamane.
The UPND leader reiterated his commitment to recognizing him if elected president on January 20, 2015.
ZNBC also reported that the Mwine Lubemba Spokesperson, Washanga Impika Shalubemba, had also blessed and endorsed Mr Hichilema ahead of the by election.

Folks recently i read that Zambians in the US have endorsed HH for the January 20, 2015 election. I lived in the US for over many years before returning home and know that the US has over 350K Zambians scattered from coast to coast including Hawaii and the Island of Puerto Rico. How did you folks come up with a resolution to endorse HH if indeed you have all endorsed him? Who coordinated that Zambians in the US endorsement if true?

But Shilubemba is not a cheap chief where you can go and ask for a vote for a few ngwees. Ask Sata. The whole government machinery failed to stop Bashilubemba. So what about UPND?

The problem we have in Zambia is that 80% of the population has the brain calibre of Impako and never use logic to vote. That is why you find that the 20% who vote for the right candidate are the ones who are already well off and will never complain about the prices of mealie meal the way Impako and his friends do when they usher in a dunderhead who cannot deliver and it is a shame. We are really going to hit very low levels of credibility as a country if we have a person who has no sense of fiduciary duty to his own clients, with a questionable health status and an everyday drinking habit as president. Why are people so worked up with endorsements from traditional rulers? Does it really matter if Chitimukulu endorses HH? After all, he only has one vote like mine. His vote will not be weighted 1,000 times because he is a chief. Nor will his preference for HH necessarily sway many people’s votes in the north. I am one of those who will vote independently regardless of what Chitimukulu, Yeta, Nzamane, Ishindi, Kazembe, Tafuna, Undi, Mpezeni, etc. think or do. If any chief endorses any candidate, he/she will just sow seeds of division because a person of his/her stature should be above partisan politics and should treat his/her subjects equally regardless of their political affiliations.

The tribal card won’t stick on HH because Zambians are well sensitized to tell which group of people are singing the tribe song. They themselves are tribal and all it takes is to see at the composition of the current PF government.
UNPD government under HH will concentrate on developing the entire country as a grand national agenda and rubbish all imaginary figments of PF purported regional developments.
