CAF club wrap: Katongo’s Wits wins big

It wasn’t such a great weekend for Zambian stars abroad in CAF club action for their respective clubs.

In the CAF Champions League, Zambia number one Kennedy Mweene was relegated to the bench again at Mamelodi Sundowns who drew 1-1 away to Saint Michel in the Seychelles on Saturday.

Mweene’s place was taken by Uganda goalkeeper Dennis Onyango who also restricted him to the bench for the second successive game since Wednesday’s 4-1 mid-week PSL home win over Moroka Swallows.

In the CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday night, ex-Zambia captain Christopher Katongo was in Bidvest Wits starting XI of their 3-0 home win over Royal Leopards in Johannesburg.

Katongo did not score and was substituted in the second half.

And in Nairobi on Sunday, defender Aaron Katebe did not travel with Zimbabwe club FC Platinum in their Confederation Cup away first leg tie against Sofapaka.

Platinum won the match 2-1.
