VICE PRESIDENT Inonge Wina has said Mulungushi Textiles in Kabwe will take time to start operations because the factory was vandalised.

Ms Wina told Parliament this morning that months after the agreement was signed for a 12-year lease agreement with Mohammed Enterprises Tanzania Limited (MeTL) in July last year which aims at reviving the operations of the defunct textile factory, the new owner is still mobilising equipment.

The new partner plans to invest US$10 million in resuscitating the operations and has targeted to create 2,000 jobs.

ZCMT Joint Venture Limited vice-board chairperson Rose Salukatula signed on behalf of Zambia and the Chinese partner, while Gulan Dewji signed on behalf of MeTL Group.

The Vice President said it will take time to revamp the industry where chickens and pigs were being kept for a long time.

The Vice President was responding to Kabwe central Member of Parliament James Kapyanga who wanted to know when the textile company will start operating as people of Kabwe are yearning for the industry to resume operation and create jobs for them.

The textile company was last in operation on 30 June 2007.

Meanwhile, Vice President Inonge Wina has said it is not government policy to disparage women but advised politicians whether men or women not to be confrontational as they talk about national issues.

Ms Wina was responding to questions pertaining to Chisimba Kambwili’s remarks over a statement by United Party for National Development (UPND) national chairperson Mutale Nalumango who doubted President Lungu’s fitness.

Mr Kambwili described Ms Nalumango as ‘ugly’ both in her heart and on the face for doubting president Lungu’s fitness.

The vice president said politicians should devote their time on debating serious national issues than on personal attacks.

  1. In 2011 after winning elections, Sata told the people of Chama that, “osashoka tonje, tizasegula Mulungushi textile manje manje. Tizabwela kugula tonje yonse kuno.” Don’t burn your cotton. We are opening mulungushi textiles very soon and we are coming to buy all your cotton.” Four years later we are hearing the same stories from the same party of yes we are opening and no we are not opening. If you have nothing to offer, better we keep quiet and talk about other things.

  2. I salute the VEEP for condeming Kabwili. Constructive criticism is a necessary evil because it puts one in the correct position when they’re lost. I do not think that one’s personal looks should be a bench mark for achieving success

  3. ……luckily, Inonge is CK’s boss and of the same party otherwise similar(if not worse) sentiments showered on Nalumango could have been on Inonge the following day….it only takes two days to attend anger management and diplomas lessons….

  4. Lyonse ni investors. Why are we made to belief foreigner are our answers? Hw many times have we been burn’t by these so called investors?

    • Better Zambia. Do something yourself. Invest in something meaningful and create employment. Rather buy off Mulungushi Textile and start operations immediately. Why waste your time writing when you have better answers. World over, countries have both local and international investors. What is the problem with us Zambians kanshi?

    • @ Miya. Chaps like ‘better Zambia’ can’t even invest in a better bamba for themselves and you expect any sensible contribution from them?

    • because we would rather spend 100000 kwacha on a wedding which is headed for doom to dance for the weekend rather than investing that money on projects which will yield profit in the long term. This is the mentality that has killed us, very short sighted people. Zambia would have been the Zara of African with that textile company..manje ka foresight katu…

  5. But what about what Nalumango said of ECL. Chalitumpa chi Nalumango. Tukachipepeka mumputa nakabili
