US donates three vehicles to Southern Province Medical Office

The United States government yesterday donated three motor vehicles to Southern Province Medical Office in Choma.

The donation which was done by US Ambassador to Zambia, Eric Schultz was in line with the support from the US government’s President’s Emergency Plan for AID Relief (PEPFAR).

PEPFAR is supporting the Saving Mothers Giving Life initiative program in an effort to further reduce maternal mortality rates.

This is contained in a press release issued to ZANIS in Livingstone today by Public Affairs Specialist at the Embassy of the United States of America in Lusaka, Mathews Mumbi.

Mr. Mumbi said the USA government has collaborated with the government of the Republic of Zambia on the Saving Mothers, Giving Life program in Kalomo, Lundazi, Mansa and Nyimba districts since 2012.

He said in these districts, the program has already reduced facility-based maternal mortality by 35 percent adding that the United States has pledged support to extend the program to Choma, Pemba and Zimba districts.

In collaboration with Saving Mothers, Giving Life program, the Zambian government through the Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health and the Ministry of Health are taking leadership role in helping Zambia achieve its Roadmap to addressing maternal mortality.

Saving Mothers, Giving Life program is a public-private partnership between the Zambian government, the US government, the Norwegian government and the Swedish government.

Other partners include Merck for Mothers, Every Mother Counts, Project Cure and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

    Hi, everyone —

I’m the Surgeon General of the United States — which means it’s my job to keep America healthy by providing you with the best scientific information available about your health.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to meet with President Obama, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy and health care professionals to discuss climate change. We talked about the impact of climate change on public health and the importance of prevention.

Clearly, we all have a stake in our national and global health. Every single one of us stands to benefit from a public health system that is focused on wellness and prevention — not one that simply focuses on treating sickness and disease.

So as part of National Public Health Week, I’m taking your questions…

  2. So as part of National Public Health Week, I’m taking your questions. If you’re on Twitter, and you’ve got a question about the impact of climate change on health — or any other public health topic — shoot it my way using the hashtag #AskTheSurgeonGeneral.

I’ll be answering your questions via video throughout the afternoon tomorrow from my Twitter account, @Surgeon_General.

Every one of us wants to do what we can to protect the health of our families, including the health of our grandchildren and future generations. That starts with being informed about how we can keep ourselves, and one another, healthy — particularly in the face of a changing climate.

I’m looking forward to hearing what you have to say.

    Stay healthy, America.

    VM

    U.S. Surgeon General Vivek…

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again”.

This principle works for both believers and non-Christians. Please, Zambians, start giving also. You cant always be expecting hand outs, donations and aid. Its not just money I’m referring to here, give work/study permits to those refugees and foreign nationals who are in the country with a legitimate cause.

Find another country that is struggling out there and give them something; give them copper, corn, something that you have in possession.

As for those in diaspora who are doing fine, please send money home..
