Deputy Minister in the Vice President’s Office Stephen Kampyongo says civil society organisations should be objective in their pursuit of a new constitution.

Mr Kampyongo says NGOs should not seek cheap political mileage over the constitution making Process because President Edgar Lungu remains resolute in his quest to deliver a people driven constitution.

He has questioned the Grand Coalition’s reported working alliance with the opposition UPND in pushing for a new constitution.

Mr Kampyongo who is also PF Deputy Parliamentary Chief Whip, was reacting to a story in the Daily Nation suggesting that the Grand Coalition is joining the UPND to press for a new constitution.

He said people sponsoring Grand Coalition should not that government is aware of the political schemes to destabilize the state.

Evangelical youth alliance President Reverend Moses Lungu says there is no need for the grand coalition to mount Pressure on the Government over the constitution because government has already shown political will in enacting the constitution.

He says instead of mounting pressure, the grand coalition should instead start studying options of peace mill amends suggested by government.

Reverend Lungu also says the government should be given time to work.

And Reverend Lungu has added his voice to Zambians commending president Lungu for opening up negotiations on the wage freeze.

He said move by the president shows that he is a listening president.

    • Can someone please give a brief resume for this Kampongo. My suspicion is he is uneducated and unexposed.

    • KAMPYONGO, IS RIGHT. ONLY MOST PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT HE MEANS AND THEY ARE NOT PREPARED TO RESEARCH MORE ON THE SUBJECT. NGOs DO NOT MAINLY REPRESENT THE INTERESTS OF ZAMBIA BUT WESTERN SPONSORS. THE CONSTITUTION SHOULD NOT BE LET TO BE DOMINATED BY/WITH WESTERN LIFE-STYLE. THIS IS A ZAMBIAN CONSTITUTION. LET IT BE DOMINATED BY/WITH ZAMBIAN CULTURE AND TRADITIONS.

    • Constitution reform in zambia is a failed project for the simple reason that we, the people, do not know and have not agreed what we want to achieve through this process. Back to the drawing board!

    • @Obatala Linguist, for your info Kampyongo is a Rhodes Scholar. That should tell you that, your education is substandard compared to his.

  1. Why should UPND care so much about the national constitution when they can’t respect their constitution? Why should FODEP go to bed with a party that is not democratic?

    • How does UPND not respect the constitution? Also we Zambians not only UPND want a PEOPLE DRIVEN CONSTITUTION not only a constitution we have that already.

    • UPND CARE SO MUCH ABOUT THE CONSTITUTION BECAUSE THAT’S THE ONLY THING (AND OTHERS) WITH NO ELECTION FOR WHICH THEY HAVE FOR FOUR YEARS PROVED TO BE FAILURES. SO, YAPPING ABOUT THE CONSTITUTIONS- NO MATTER HOW, IS NOT A SUBJECTION TO AN ELECTION WHERE THEY ARE 99% LIKELY TO FAIL.

  2. I wonder what a Deputy Minister in the Vice President Office does from 9:00 to 17:00 hrs from Monday to Friday; if the Veep’s only job is to escort the lazy guy in State House to KK international Airport.

  3. Reverend Lungu has become PF cadre because his comments are always against those with different views with EL.

Is he brother to EL? or they are just namesakes?

    • Rev Lungu how about sticking to the church and leave politicians to govern and correct each other. Look at the morals of the people, the shepards like you are into politics whilst the sheep stray. Render unto Ceaser what is for Ceasere and unto God what is for God, a man cannot serve two masters at the same time.

  4. Kampyongo is not democratic. In as much as I will not protest, Kampyongo should realise divergence of views and must respect that. If these guys want to protest, let them go ahead as long as it’s peaceful. Kampyongo is the same chap who said UPND needed to seek permission from him to go and campaign. I don’t see how these protests will give us a people driven constitution but refusing and using divide and rule tactics is not the answer. Kampyongo eish

  5. IF THE FINAL CONSTITUTION OF ZAMBIA WILL BE FULL OF NGO IDEAS WILL JUST BE ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH. LET ORDINARY PEOPLE ESPECIALLY THOSE FROM RURAL ZAMBIA CONTRIBUTE MOST. AND LET THE ENLIGHTENED MINORITY HELP TO INTERPRET TO THE PEOPLE SOME OF THE INTRICATE CLAUSES SO AS TO CONTRIBUTE INFORMED- LY. NGOs ARE ALWAYS WESTERN-SPONSORED. SO, THE CONSTITUTION ONCE FINISHED WILL HAVE ALL WESTERN-WORLD ELEMENTS AND NOT ZAMBIAN. IT’S LIKE GIVING MORE ATTENTION TO DIASPORA ZAMBIANS OVER THE CONSTITUTION. THEY WILL ALL TALK ABOUT THE SAME THING- EATING-WITH-BOTH-HANDS, OR DUAL-CITIZENSHIP IN OTHER WORDS. EVEN IF WE KNOW THAT DUAL CITIZENSHIP WILL DISADVANTAGE MILLIONS OF ZAMBIANS AND POSSIBLY BRING ABOUT AFRO/XENO-PHOBIA, DUE TO ALL JOBS AND OTHER OPPORTUNITIES GOING TO FOREIGNERS.

    • @ peter

If you are not happy with NGO’s and donors contribution to the Zambian civil society in the last 50 years, please tell us what you parasitic cadre have achieved?

  6. Same talk of blabla,,, has shown political will now he is in the grave, their is too much political Cadre response from pf govt than explaining the policy of govt as to build the economy. @Building accident museum, ni chaba manje.

  7. This is purely a PF-UPND issue. The Grand Coalition should keep off it’s political interests. In which capacity are you engaging? You are a spent force, an irrelevant political outfit. Desist forthwith.

    • @ MAN KENYA

Constitution of Zambia isn’t just PF-UPND issue.
Keep your Kenyan tribalism to your self.
New Constitution is a issue for all Zambians irrelevant to party, credo or tribal association.
If they (Zambians) decide to form “pro” and “against” lobbing group, that is theirs privilege and NOT yours.

If you want to contribute on Kenyan institutionalized tribalism, corruption or extrajudicial killings, please feel free. But, before you comment again on purely Zambian Citizens political issue, please read Immigration and Deportation Act.

  8. @Peter,
If you have been following Zambian politics you would have realised that the constitution has been in the making for donkey years now and is neither an NGO, or Western constitution. What is being demanded is to have the Annel Silungwe Technical committee draft constitution to be enacted before the elections. What you should be arguing are the merits of such demands. And, oh please, read the draft before you show your lack of knowledge on the matter.

  9. when zambians will start thinking on the same page, zambia will be a better country.More especially the youths who have taken a political inclination towards parties being led either by their tribes men, tribal cousins or because of the good policies in that political party.what youths of today should be interested with are policies that will secure our future.

  10. Ba Lusaka Times we love u but please be selective with the source of yo news. Surely the imbacile Stephen Kampyongo making healines in yo online paper!. No i think u need not to sink so low.

Let F0OLS be reported in FOOLISH online paper like the Zambia Reports or the Mwebantu Media. I think you are too smart to give Kampyongo the insest man space.

I we K a Kampyopyopyopyopyopyongongongongo. RESPECT YO SELF ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. to be honest with you pipo to us leaving in rural areas the constitution is no urgent we want roads, hospital, schools,of which we are seeing foundation laid down,so to those that want to use a constitution to get funding, from western countries are not in good faith, if honestly thy mean well let them,go round whole Zambia like they do during campaign to tell us, how constitution will bring food on our tables
