Nkana overcome Power Dynamos in the Kitwe derby

Share

Striker Djunese Kanda came off the bench to score a late goal as ten-man Nkana beat Power Dynamos 1-0 in the big Kitwe derby of the 2015 FAZ Super League played at Nkana Stadium.

The win has pushed Beston Chambeshi’s side into 8th place on the table.

Kanda scored with a rebound after Joshua Titima punched his 73rd minute penalty awarded by Lusaka referee Audrick Nkole when Derrick Mwansa hacked Ronald Chibwe in the box.

Kanda had replaced midfielder Joseph Sitali after 60 minutes.

The two teams went to the break with a goalless draw after a disappointing first half.

Power who dominated the game were the first to create a good chance with winger Kelvin Mubanga forcing Rabson Mucheleng’anga to stop a goal-bound free kick taken from the edge of the box.

Nkana had also missed chances through defender Amos Simwanza who had a close range header stopped by Titima before Simon Bwalya headed a Sitali cross slighly over the bar from inside the box.

Meanwhile, Nkana were reduced to ten when referee Nkole sent off inspiration skipper Donashano Malama foul kicking Martin Phiri in the centre circle on 70 minutes.

But Power could not take advantage of the situation as Nkana picked their first home victory of the season.
