Dr. Nevers Mumba Denounces Falsely Attributed Story About John Sangwa

2

Dr. Nevers Mumba has addressed and corrected a false story circulating online on on facebook page “THE CANDIDATES,” which purported that he made disparaging remarks about State Counsel John Sangwa following Sangwa’s announcement to step away from active legal practice and pursue a political path.

In a statement, Dr. Mumba clarified, “Let me be CLEAR: I have made no such statement. In fact, my position is quite the opposite.”

He stated that he warmly welcomes Counsel John Sangwa into the national political arena, describing him as “one of Zambia’s most distinguished legal minds” who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and made profound contributions to the legal profession and the country. Dr. Mumba said Sangwa’s decision to engage in political discourse is commendable and timely, given the nation’s quest for renewal and progress.

Dr. Mumba shared that his own entry into politics was driven by a desire to serve beyond the pulpit, and he cited President Hakainde Hichilema’s transition from a finance and investment background to national leadership. He emphasized that national leadership is not the exclusive preserve of career politicians and that the table should allow distinguished Zambians who have shown exceptional competence in their fields to participate without undue prejudice.

“After all, there is no specialized university that grooms Presidents, it therefore follows that the choice of people to run for President must be Zambians with outstanding leadership ability across various disciplines and vocations, and on this, Counsel Sangwa qualifies, no question!” he said.

Dr. Mumba acknowledged that Sangwa joins politics at a time when Zambian politics is a “cut throat and a bare knuckles fight,” but added, “if he made it in the courtroom, he must now take some of that strength he gathered along the way to the political battlefield.”

He expressed disappointment with the online publication, stating, “This is not the kind of reporting we need.”

The story Dr. Mumba was reacting to had claimed under the headline “JOHN SANGWA OVERATES HIMSELF – Nevers Mumba” that the former Vice President said State Counsel John Sangwa was overrating himself and could not become President sooner than those who had long suffered in opposition. The false report also alleged that Dr. Mumba said Sangwa should stick to law and risked being bruised in the political arena.

Emmanuel Mwamba Rebuffs President’s Assertion on Malanji Case

23

Patriotic Front member Emmanuel Mwamba has challenged President Hakainde Hichilema’s recent statements regarding the case involving former Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Malanji.

Mwamba referenced a 2019 government announcement of a $20 million mortgage financing program to purchase, rehabilitate, and construct properties for diplomatic missions abroad, including new missions in Canberra, Australia and Ankara, Turkey, and rehabilitation of buildings in South Africa, Germany, and Washington.

Detailing the Ankara project, Mwamba stated that the government bought a chancery building for the Zambian Mission in Ankara. In December 2020, $6.8 million was sent as part-payment to the vendor’s lawyers, Burhan Asaf Safak. He stated that in July 2021, after Parliament was dissolved and Joseph Malanji was no longer Minister, a further $2 million was sent. In October 2021, the new government cancelled the purchase of houses but finalized the sale of the Chancery Building at a cost of $8 million, making the total payments $8 million.

Mwamba asserted that Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) Director General Nason Banda therefore lied and committed perjury by claiming $11 million was sent to Ankara and that this amount was collected by Malanji and repatriated to Zambia via a presidential plane.

He clarified that during this period, the Gulfstream G650 (AF 001) was the designated Presidential plane, while the Bombardier Challenger 9J-One was no longer a presidential plane. Mwamba stated that ministers used the Challenger for presidential duties, citing Davies Chama and Stephen Kampyongo’s travel to Malawi in June 2020, and Joseph Malanji’s use of it to attend the inauguration of Namibian President Hage Geingob in March 2020. He added that former President Rupiah Banda used the plane for medical trips to Dubai during COVID-19 airspace shutdowns, and that it was also used for duties to Tanzania, Israel, and Turkey.

Mwamba described as “sad reading” President Hichilema’s announcement that he worked to send Malanji to jail by contacting the presidents of South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Turkey to secure witnesses and repossess his helicopters. Mwamba accused the President of repeating the “$11 million lie” and of abusing his power by acting as “prosecutor, jury, and judge” against a political adversary.

This rebuttal follows President Hichilema’s recent engagement with UPND Lusaka Province party structures, where he reaffirmed his administration’s stance against corruption. The President announced that property linked to Malanji, including helicopters, would be forfeited to the Zambia Air Force for humanitarian and emergency operations.

“This is the job Zambians gave me, to fight corruption. Anyone stealing from hospitals or government projects is on their own,” President Hichilema said, emphasizing that all recovered assets would be repurposed for public benefit. He stated his administration remains focused on restoring integrity in public service and ensuring no individual is above the law.

Zambia Presents Agri-Investment Strategy at UN Forum in Rome

0

A high-level Zambian delegation has arrived in Rome to participate in the World Food Forum and the United Nations Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum, scheduled from October 14 to 17 at the FAO Headquarters.

The global forum, which coincides with the 80th anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), will see 30 countries and six Regional Initiatives present investment cases to agrifood investors and development partners. The event aims to accelerate the transformation of agrifood systems to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Zambia’s delegation is led by the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock, Peter Kapala, MP, who will present the country’s investment strategy focused on food security, sustainable agriculture, and inclusive economic growth. The strategy targets key value chains in maize, soybeans, honey, and aquaculture to enhance productivity, create jobs, and strengthen rural livelihoods.

This follows a USD 960 million investment plan presented by Zambia in 2024, which continues to boost the country’s agricultural and aquaculture sectors.

Minister Kapala highlighted the nation’s recent agricultural achievements, noting that despite a severe drought and national disaster declaration in the previous season, Zambia achieved a record 3.7 million metric tonnes of maize production in the 2024/2025 farming season. He said this demonstrated the resilience of Zambia’s farmers and the government’s effective interventions in climate adaptation and irrigation development.

The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to modernising agriculture through investment in mechanisation, extension services, and value addition. He also pointed to significant growth in the sector, including a rise in soybean production from 400,000 to 760,000 metric tonnes, and the export of locally produced maize seed to markets in Africa and Europe.

On the sidelines of the forum, the delegation is set to engage in bilateral meetings aimed at strengthening agricultural partnerships and attracting new investment.

Kapala stated that President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND government remain steadfast in their commitment to strengthening Zambia’s international relationships through trade, investment, and sustainable development cooperation. He added that such engagements reflect the President’s vision of positioning Zambia as a credible, reliable, and progressive partner on the global stage.

Zambia’s participation in the forum reaffirms the country’s resolve to accelerate inclusive rural transformation, modernise its agriculture sector, and position itself as a premier investment destination in Africa.

Electoral Commission of Zambia Kicks Off Countrywide Mass Voter Registration

2

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has commenced a nationwide mass voter registration exercise, which started today and will run until November 11, 2025.

The commission aims to capture 3.5 million eligible voters countrywide during this period. Speaking on a live broadcast monitored by ZANIS, ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis appealed to members of the public who have reached the voting age to turn out in large numbers and register.

“I encourage people to turn out in large numbers as the commission commences voter registration exercises in all the 156 constituencies and districts dotted around Zambia,” Mrs. Zaloumis said.

The exercise will facilitate new voter registrations, the replacement of lost or damaged voter cards, and the transfer of polling stations. The ECZ Chairperson explained that those who already possess voters’ cards issued in 2020 or obtained during the continuous registration period will not be required to register again. She added that the commission is determined to come up with a credible, transparent, and inclusive electoral process.

In Nyimba District of Eastern Province, the exercise has commenced in all 15 wards. Nyimba District Registration Officer, Gibson Mwemba, called on Voter Education Facilitators to abide by ECZ guidelines and strictly educate the masses about voter registration as they were trained.

Speaking to ZANIS, Mr. Mwemba outlined the eligibility requirements, stating that a person must be a Zambian citizen with a green National Registration Card (NRC) and must be 18 years old or above. He appealed to community members to support the Voter Education Facilitators during their ward visits.

Nyimba resident Mathews Tembo, who was on his way to register, thanked the government for the voter registration exercise. Mr. Tembo expressed joy that he will be able to exercise his right to vote in the 2026 general elections and called on all eligible Zambians to register as voters.

Farmers hailed for participation in school feeding programme

1

Kanchibiya District Commissioner, Chrispin Chilekwa, has commended farmer cooperatives in the area that are supplying maize to the District Education Board Secretary’s office for the school feeding programme.

Mr Chilekwa says the initiative is empowering farmers while ensuring that learners continue to benefit from the school feeding programme.

He was speaking when he addressed cooperative members in Mabale area in Kabinga Chiefdom, who had gathered to learn about the next steps in the programme

Mr Chilekwa said the decision to allow cooperatives to supply maize directly to schools through the District Education Board Secretary’s office would reduce transportation costs and ensure timely delivery of food to learners.

He said Government has responded to farmers who had experienced challenges in transporting maize to distant Food Reserve Agency (FRA) depots.

“We are implementing the Presidential directive on the school feeding programme, and we are pleased that our local cooperatives can participate in this important initiative,” he said.

Mr Chilekwa said the arrangement would benefit both farmers and learners, as it provides a ready market for maize while ensuring schools had adequate food supplies.

Meanwhile, District Education Planning Officer, Moses Mwase, said the department is impressed with what they found on the ground.

Mr Mwase said the department is committed to ensuring the school feeding programme is executed efficiently across all schools in the district.

“We are happy with what we have found on the ground. We are grateful that the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises has organised itself,” he said.

Mr Mwase said the cooperation between various departments and cooperatives demonstrated the commitment to making the school feeding programme a success.

And District Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Inspector, Yona Kaonga, said the ministry was committed to linking cooperatives to suitable markets.

He encouraged cooperatives to be productive so that it would be easier to link them to viable markets.

Mr Kaonga said the school feeding programme presented a sustainable market opportunity for cooperatives in the district.

Meanwhile, Lulinga Ward Councilor, Abel Puka, said they were happy with the government’s intervention to purchase as much maize as possible from people in the ward.

He said the arrangement had brought relief to farmers who previously struggled with transportation costs to distant depots.

The Ward Councillor urged farmers to maintain quality standards in their maize production to ensure continued participation in the programme.

Increase in fertiliser production at the Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia to stabilise prices-expert

0

An Agriculture expert, Oliver Bulaya, says the projected increase in fertiliser production at the Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ) will help stabilize the prices of the commodity on the market.

The Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ) is set to ramp up fertiliser production from the 70,000 to 432,000 metric tonnes annually following an investment of US$6.8 million towards the fertiliser blending and granulating plant from the African Development Bank (AfDB) under the Zambia Emergency Food Production Facility (ZAEFPF).

In an interview with the media in Lusaka today, Dr Bulaya said the move will also help farmers to increase crop production.

He said this will especially increase small scale farmers who are facing low levels of production due to high prices of fertiliser.

He stated that it is important for the country to invest in fertiliser and seed production, saying Zambia is now one of the biggest suppliers of fertiliser in the region.

Meanwhile, National Association for Smallholder Farmers (NASFA) Executive Director, Frank Kayula, says the expected increase in production will also help the country’s economy as there will be more fertiliser export.

Dr Kayula noted that increased fertiliser export will subsequently lead to the improvement in the exchange rates thereby making other imported materials cheaper to acquire.

He however stated that the government needs to intervene through the Consumer Protection Unit in order to help set more favourable prices for seeds on the market.

President Hichilema to grace Southern Province Expo tomorrow

0

President Hakainde Hichilema is tomorrow expected in Livingstone, Southern Province, to officiate at the 2025 Southern Investment and Trade Exposition.

Southern Province Minister, Credo Nanjuwa, confirmed this in Livingstone today.

Mr Nanjuwa says the Head of State will arrive in Livingstone in the morning and will return to Lusaka after gracing the event.

“The President is coming to Southern Province, he is coming to Livingstone specifically to officiate at the Southern Investment and Trade Expo, 2025, “he said.

Mr Nanjuwa has described the response from exhibitors as good, stating that the exposition is aimed at marketing the province.

“As provincial administration and Minister of the Province, I am excited that so many exhibitors have arrived. I have been told that others are still looking for space, because it’s like we are running out of space. The response is very good,” he added.

He added that after the official opening, the programmes will continue through to Thursday, where different organisations will take part in presentations.

Meanwhile, Mr Nanjuwa indicated that 37 traditional leaders have been invited from the region.

He also confirmed the attendance of investors from China at the expo.

“I can say that investors from China who arrived last week are interested in putting up an MFEZ in Choma District. On top of the MFEZ, they are thinking of putting up a 200 megawatt solar power plant in Choma,” Mr Nanjuwa stated.

He further disclosed that another delegation is trying to put up an additional 200 Megawatt Solar Power Plant, targeting Itezhi – Tezhi and Livingstone.

Zambia, Ethiopia working towards expanding honey industry cooperation

0

Government says it is committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Ethiopia in the green economy sector, with a particular focus on expanding the honey industry as a key driver of rural livelihoods, environmental conservation, and economic diversification.

Speaking during a courtesy call by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) honey value chain study visit delegation, whose mission is to foster experience sharing and collaboration between the Zambian and Ethiopian honey value chains, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, Ranford Simumbwe, emphasised the importance of such engagements in advancing South-South cooperation for sustainable development.

Mr Simumbwe noted that the government greatly values the long-standing partnership between Zambia and Ethiopia, particularly in areas of mutual interest such as green enterprise development.

“This engagement presents an opportunity to deepen collaboration in forestry and sustainable agricultural value chains, particularly the honey sector, which offers strong potential for inclusive green growth,” he said.

Mr Simumbwe said Zambia’s honey industry is one of the country’s fastest-growing green enterprises, currently producing approximately 2,500 metric tonnes annually, far below its estimated potential of 20,000 tonnes.

He said the sector supports more than 50,000 smallholder beekeepers, largely operating in the Miombo woodlands, which cover about 60 percent of Zambia’s land area.

He pointed out that the honey value chain offers triple benefits namely rural income, biodiversity conservation, and economic diversification.

Mr Simumbwe added that currently, Zambia has 15 major honey processors, with growing opportunities for value addition and exports.

He underscored Zambia’s strategic investment models which include US$23 million worth of out-grower schemes linking traditional beekeepers to formal markets, forest-based beekeeping in local concessions, and queen rearing programmes to boost colony health and productivity.

He said Zambia is seeking technical collaboration with Ethiopia in areas such as bee genetics, disease control, export certification, and apiary management.

The Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment further said the government was also offering incentives such as fiscal rebates on processing equipment and is developing certification and traceability systems to meet European Union (EU) and regional market standards.

Meanwhile Zambia’s Acting Ambassador to Ethiopia, Tom Michelo, described the UNIDO study visit as a key step in strengthening the two countries’ collaboration on shared environmental and economic goals.

Mr Michelo highlighted Ethiopia’s interest in Zambia’s policy frameworks, cooperative development, quality assurance, biodiversity conservation, and product diversification.

He also recognised Ethiopia’s achievements that include the Bounty of the Basket programme, which he said produced over 326,000 metric tonnes of honey in 2024/25, and the Green Legacy Initiative, with over 40 billion trees planted since 2018.

Meanwhile, Ethiopian delegation leader, Girma Mulugeta Tulu, noted the mutual interests in sustainable and forest-based enterprises, particularly in the honey value chain.

Mr Tulu said it is important to support smallholder farmers, noting that green enterprises like beekeeping can enhance incomes, nutrition, and export opportunities.

“Ethiopia sees Zambia as a strategic partner in expanding green exports across domestic and international markets,” Mr Tulu said.

He explained that market access, fair trade, infrastructure development, green financing and joint research and training are the key areas in which Zambia-Ethiopia can collaborate further.

Mr Tulu also called for continued dialogue and open exchanges in research, technology, and business development.

The UNIDO honey value chain study visit is a South-South knowledge exchange initiative aimed at enhancing collaboration in sustainable beekeeping and honey production.

It follows a recent visit by a Zambian delegation to Ethiopia to study its Digital ID system, which led to a Memorandum of Understanding to support Zambia’s implementation.

Liberia delegation in Zambia to learn for Teaching Council

0

Minister of Education, Douglas Syakalima, has reiterated the need for strong collaboration with other African countries in order to learn and solve challenges faced in the education sector.

Mr Syakalima says the government is committed to developing the education sector in Zambia, adding that this is demonstrated by the allocation of 20 percent of the national budget to the sector.

He was speaking when a Liberian delegation paid a courtesy call on him today.

Mr Syakalima said the delegation is in Zambia to learn from the Teaching Council of Zambia’s Teacher Management Information System (TMIS), which integrates teacher licensing, continuous professional development tracking and school accreditation.

He also noted that an additional 3,500 teachers are expected to be recruited by 2026 as announced in the national budget this year.

He reiterated that the free education policy has allowed over 2.3 million children to go back to school, saying this is a major milestone for other African countries to learn from.

Meanwhile, Liberia’s Deputy Minister of Instructions and head of the delegation, Amos Fully, said Liberia is developing a digital teacher database to improve accountability, professionalism and data management in its education sector.

Mr Fully said Liberia has made progress in improving access to education and upgrading teacher standards through the National Teacher Licensing Policy, which sets professional and ethical benchmarks for educators.

He further explained that Liberia is currently transitioning toward a digital teacher database system that will integrate teacher licensing, continuous professional development tracking and school accreditation.

He added that investing in education is key to building national capacity and reducing inequality, noting that the country chose to invest in people rather than worry about the money.

“We are particularly interested in learning from the Teaching Council of Zambia’s system and how it enhances teacher regulation and data management,” he said

He noted that over the past decade, the country has made progress in improving access to education and upgrading teacher training and professional standards.

He further explained that recognising the importance of qualified and ethical teachers, the Ministry of Education of Liberia established Centers of Excellence for Teacher Licensing and School Accreditation in 2011, followed by the Teacher Licensing and Regulation Framework in 2020.

The framework is anchored on four pillars which are professional standards, teacher registration and licensing, continuous professional development, and adherence to a code of ethics.

“This study tour provides an excellent opportunity for joint collaboration, allowing both countries to share experiences and strengthen our collective efforts toward achieving the African Union’s Continental Education Strategy for Africa,” he added.

Mr Fully has since expressed gratitude to the government of Zambia and the Teaching Council for their hospitality and willingness to share their experiences, pledging to foster lasting cooperation between the two countries.

Gatbro International donates over K200,000 to End Malaria Council

0

The End Malaria Council has received over K200,000 from Gatbro International towards the implementation of the National Malaria Strategy.

Gatbro International Sales and Marketing Director, Mohammad Imran, stated that the company is committed to contributing to the noble cause of eliminating malaria in Zambia.

Speaking at the press briefing in Lusaka, Mr Imran said the company has been actively involved in various initiatives aimed at eliminating the disease, particularly through its “Protect Your Home” campaign.

He said the campaign is meant to empower communities across Lusaka Province and beyond through providing them with the tools and knowledge needed to prevent malaria.

Meanwhile, End Malaria Council Chairperson of the Communication and Advocacy Committee, Malcolm Chabala, said the council is hosting a golf tournament on 17th October, 2025 at State House Golf Course which will be graced by President Hakainde Hichilema.

Mr Chabala noted that the golf tournament is part of a broader effort to eliminate malaria in the country, which is considered a national priority.

He emphasised the importance of the event saying malaria remains the leading cause of illness and death in Zambia.

“Every day, over 20,000 new cases are reported and behind each statistic is a child missing school, a mother fighting for her life, a family burdened by grief or financial strain,” he said

Mr Chabala observed that the disease does not only affect the health sector but also has significant economic implications such as companies losing many work days annually.

He added that the return on investment in malaria elimination is substantial, noting that every dollar invested yields up to 29 dollars in economic returns, a development which makes the fight against malaria not just a moral imperative but also a strategic one.

Mr Chabala has since called on all sectors to join hands in fighting malaria and participate in the golf tournament.

RDA Apologises and advise on Temporary Traffic Congestion on Great North Road

1

RDA advises on Temporary Traffic Congestion on Great North Road

The Road Development Agency (RDA) has advised motorists to expect temporary traffic congestion between 6 and 10 Miles along the Great North Road as construction works intensify on the Lusaka–Ndola Dual Carriageway.

According to a public notice issued on 13 October 2025, the RDA and MOIC Construction Zambia Limited — the concessionaire undertaking the project under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) financing model  said the disruption was the result of ongoing rehabilitation and upgrading of the highway into a dual carriageway.

The notice explained that the road works form part of a broader effort to enhance road safety, cut travel time, and promote economic growth through improved transport connectivity. Once completed, the Lusaka–Ndola Dual Carriageway will serve as a key trade corridor linking Zambia’s industrial capital with its main seaport routes through the Copperbelt and onward to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The agency expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and appealed for public patience and cooperation. “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and kindly request the public’s patience and cooperation as we carry out these essential works,” the statement read.

Construction progress on the affected section was described as steady, with completion targeted for the end of November 2025. The RDA urged motorists to consider alternative routes where possible to avoid peak-hour delays, especially on the Great North Road outbound lane.

The statement further noted that the Lusaka–Ndola project represents one of Zambia’s most critical transport corridors and that its successful completion would provide safer passage for passengers and freight alike. The dual-carriageway upgrade is expected to reduce accident rates on a stretch of road long associated with heavy-truck traffic and frequent collisions.

Motorists travelling north toward Kabwe and the Copperbelt have already reported periodic slowdowns as construction crews clear sections for earthworks and lane expansion. Traffic officers have been deployed intermittently to assist in directing vehicles and maintaining flow.

Authorities emphasised that the inconvenience would be temporary and outweighed by the long-term benefits once the dual carriageway is operational. The project, valued at hundreds of millions of kwacha, is among the country’s most ambitious road-rehabilitation efforts in recent years and underscores the importance of infrastructure renewal for trade and safety.

The RDA concluded its statement by thanking road users for their continued understanding and cooperation as Zambia moves toward modernising one of its busiest national routes.

‎Earlier, Acting Chinsali District Commissioner, Brenda Silwembe, raised concerns over operational challenges which are affecting the delivery of water service in the area.

‎Ms Silwembe cited the breakdown of key equipment which has put pressure on officers who are determined to meet community water needs.

‎She appealed to the ministry to provide additional equipment and technical support to improve water access in the district.

Mposha warns ZEMA employees against engaging in corrupt activities

0

Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Mike Mposha, has warned officers at the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) against engaging in corrupt activities.

Mr Mposha says corrupt elements are allegedly frustrating government efforts of delivering quality services to the public.

The minister says there are high levels of corruption at agency which need to be addressed.

Mr Mposha disclosed this in Lusaka today when he addressed ZEMA employees.

He took a swipe at inspectors that have allegedly ‘gone to sleep’ instead of embarking on regular inspections.

“Corrupt practices among some of you here at ZEMA are very high. I urge you to desist from extorting money from clients,” he said.

Mr Mposha also expressed displeasure that some members of the public do not comply with ZEMA rules and regulations.

He observed that there is a lot of preventable pollution around which is endangering the lives of members of the public.

He has since implored ZEMA’s Inspectorate Unit to double its efforts and sensitize people on adherence.

And Mr Mposha, who paid an impromptu visit to ZEMA at 07:50 hours today, has warned workers against reporting late for work.

He was disappointed to find that only a few employees had reported early for work.

“I will not allow this laissez faire attitude. You are stealing government money,” he said.

Mr Mposha also advised the civil servants to acquaint themselves with the the current administration’s operations anchored on timely delivery of services, efficiency and accountability.

The minister told the workers to emulate President Hakainde Hichilema who is dedicated to duty and service noting that the Head of State works even on weekends.

He however assured that the government is aware of the lack of adequate staff, transport among other challenges at the Agency which would soon be addressed.

Vice President Nalumango Warns Underperforming UPND MPs who have lost popularity, Commissions New School in Kabompo

10

Vice President Mutale Nalumango has issued a stern warning to underperforming Members of Parliament from the ruling party while also commissioning a new boarding school during her visit to Kabompo District for the Coalition for African Parliamentarians on Human, Animal Health and Environment (CAPAH) Expo.

Addressing parliamentarians, Mrs. Nalumango, who is also the United Party for National Development (UPND) Vice President, revealed that the party has continued to receive complaints from traditional leaders in North-Western Province that some MPs have lost popularity in their constituencies due to poor performance.

She warned that the party will not adopt underperforming MPs in the next elections, stating that the party will consult stakeholders and listen to the people before adopting candidates for the 2026 general elections.

“Honourable Members of Parliament, you are adopted from the constituencies where you come from, so ensure you deliver development to your people. Even President Hakainde Hichilema and I are looking to you to deliver. It is your people who will bring you back,” she said.

The Vice President said the UPND aims to maintain its popularity in the province, adding that the adoption process will reflect the party’s commitment to sustainable development. She urged MPs to be truthful with themselves and evaluate their performance over the past five years before seeking re-adoption.

In a separate event, the Vice President commissioned the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the CAPAH Boarding School in the Watopa area of Kabompo District. Mrs. Nalumango stated that the government fully supports initiatives such as CAPAH that promote climate resilience, food security, and inclusive development.

She explained that the CAPAH School aims to empower young people with knowledge and skills to become Africa’s leading generation of climate champions. Once completed, the school would serve as a centre of excellence, nurturing future leaders in environmental stewardship, One Health, and climate resilience.

“You may wish to know that this is a Christian school that will uphold and promote high Christian values in line with the national constitution and values,” Mrs. Nalumango said, adding that the vision is to produce not only academically competent students but also God-fearing citizens.

The Vice President also officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony for a 150-hectare rice field project under the CAPAH Farm Project, which she said will leave a lasting legacy and demonstrates the government’s commitment to food security, community empowerment, and job creation.

She further commended CAPAH for promoting animal husbandry among farmers, encouraging them not to focus solely on crop farming but also to invest in livestock production.

Speaking at the same event, CAPAH Deputy Chairperson Elijah Muchima urged citizens to use such occasions to preach love and promote unity in the province. He noted that CAPAH is an initiative for the entire country and African region.

Northwestern Province Minister Robert Lihefu thanked CAPAH for establishing the school in the Kamisamba-Watopa area, where children face challenges accessing secondary education. Provincial Education Officer Fredrick Munkinyi said the establishment of the school will enhance the delivery of education in the region.
