
The Global Fund will resume funding to Zambia in the next three weeks.
Public Health Director at the Ministry of Health Victor Mukonka says the grant for round 7 and round 8 will be signed soon.
This comes after a meeting held by the Global Fund and members of the Zambian government at the just ended World Health Summit in Geneva, Switzerland.
Dr. Mukonka told ZNBC in Lusaka on Monday that resources are expected in the country soon after the signing of the grants for round 7 and 8.
He also says the global fund is undergoing restructuring with the hope of lessening the bureaucracy of accessing the funds.
The fund to Zambia was suspended after it was revealed that billions of kwacha meant for HIV related programmes went missing at the Ministry of Health.
The global fund remains critical to the the fight against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Zambia.
Meanwhile the suspected master minder of the infamous financial scam at the Ministry of Health Henry Kapoko and four others, have pleaded not guilty to fresh charges of theft by public servant, abuse of authority of office and money laundering, amounting over two billion Kwacha.
Kapoko and his co-accused took plea Monday morning before Lusaka Chief Resident Magistrate Joshua Banda.
Magistrate Banda has set June 7, for the accused to appear for mention.
Mr Kapoko hit the lime light in 2009 when he was linked to the financial scam at the Ministry of Health.
In the new indictment, Mr Kapoko’s co-accused are former Ministry of Health Accountants Vincent Luhana, Evaristo Musaba, Zukas Kaoma and a Lusaka business man Edwin Ushibantu.
They are facing eleven counts of theft by public servant, abuse of authority of office and money laundering.
Mr Kapoko on unknown date but between April 29 and May 15, 2008 allegedly directed former Ministry of Health Chief Accountant Evaristo Musaba to pay over 940 million kwacha to Lusaka’s ESU School of Nursing.
He also allegedly directed Mr Musaba to pay ESU School of Nursing over 646 Million Kwacha between December 11 and 19, 2007.
