The ministry of health says it has so far recorded 1076 cases with the majority of the cases from Lundazi, Chipata,and Chadiza districts of the eastern province .
Dr. Mbewe noted that the provincial health office is coordinating awareness campaigns on the importance of ensuring that children were immunized.
Dr. Mbewe said both static and out reach immunization services have been intensified in all districts.
He explained that active surveillance for cases is ongoing to minimize cases in the community from spreading and identifying cases.
The health spokesperson said this in Lusaka today during a press briefing.
He said the ministry will also be conducting mass immunization in affected areas and further advised parents in the country to take their children for the immunization against measles.
‘As you know last year the ministry of Health conducted a national wide measles campaign. We are still in discussion with our partners as whether they can support us in conducting a measles vaccination campaign for selected districts in Eastern Province, ” he said.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson says in this year budget five billion kwacha has been allocated for linen for hospitals in the country.
Dr. Mbewe said the procurement of linen to hospitals has since begun.He said Ronald Ross, Kamuchanga in Mufulira and some health centers have already received linen.
He added that the Minister of Health is scheduled to hand over linen to Thompson and Roan Hospitals in Luanshya this week.
He further said the program will continue until all hospitals have new linen. He was responding to a report aired in the electronic media that Roan Hospital in Luanshya was facing a critical shortage of linen.
