UPND Commends Levy’s Action Sata’s illness

Share

Opposition United Party for National Development, UPND, is happy that President Mwanawasa ordered the timely evacuation of opposition Patriotic Front leader Micheal Sata for specialist treatment to South Africa.

The UPND thanked Dr. Mwanawasa and government for facilitating the evacuation of Mr. Sata to South Africa to enable him undergo specilist treatment for the severe heart attack suffered over the weekend.

UPND Acting President, Richard Kapita, told ZANIS in Lusaka that Mr. Sata’s evacuation is commendable as every citizen requires specialist treatment whenever need arise.

“The UPND would alsdo like to thank President Mwanawasa and government for facilitating the timely evacuation of Mr. Sata,” read Mr. Kapita’s statement.

He added that government’s action would help promote the country’s young democracy.

And the UPND has regretted the death of Mr. Sata’s son Chilufya.

The party wished Mr. Sata’s family heartfelt condolences on the loss of Chilufya Sata and prayed that the family remains streingthened during the trying moment.

And Patriotic Front (PF) in Mazabuka has come out in full support of President Mwanawasa’s decision to facilitate the evacuation of PF President Micheal Sata to South Africa for specialized treatment.

PF District Chairman, Donald Zulu told ZANIS in Mazabuka today that PF cadres
are happy with President Mwanawasa for demonstrating the true statesmanship.

Mr Zulu said the gesture by Dr Mwanawasa shows that no matter how leaders
differ politically, they still have love for each other.

He has since asked President Mwanawasa to ignore the negative statement
attributed to Dr Guy Scout and continue providing the necessary leadership
to Zambians despite the different political inclinations.

Mr Zulu said party officials in the district are not in support of Dr. Guy
Scout’s statement saying it was done in his individual capacity.

And Chief Mwanachingwala has cautioned PF General Secretary, Guy Scout to
stop issuing statement that would divide Zambians.

Chief Mwanachingwala said Sata as a leader of a political party was
entitled to specialized treatment such as the one government facilitated.

The Chief said there is nothing wrong for the government to have facilitated
the evacuation of Mr Sata adding that what President Mwanawasa has done is a
true reflection of a leader.

Chief Mwanachingwala observed that it was difficult for anyone to believe in
the statement attributed to Dr Scout in which he said Sata would refund
government the medical expenses spent so far.

He said Sata was in an intensive care unit and therefore it was difficult to
believe that a person who is in the intensive care unit can talk.

The Chief said Zambians have today known who is misleading Sata on various
national issues.

Chief Mwanachingwala has since called on Dr Scout to apologize to Zambians
and President Mwanawasa for the embarrassment he has caused.

  1. This UPND message is uninspiring and only to gain mileage. Put pressure on the President and his party to invest money in our UTH so that we no longer have to evacuate these patients.

We have been sending our ‘Masters’ to RSA for now almost18 years after that little dog started this apamwamba foolishness.

Let us build our own capacity and a few grudas would buy all those machinery. It is cheaper to fly a specialists Doctor if needed than flying a patient and his family.
I expect an apposition to thank LPM but remind him of his responsibilities to local institutions.. period.

  2. Ba HK,learn 2 giv credit were its due.UPND’s commendation of Sata’s evacuation 2 SA for specialist treatment by govt is nothing political bt only shows how pleased they are 4 govts quick intervention on Sata’s health needs as an Opposition.

I think at the moment UPND is the only mature and stable Opposition Party in Zambia and as such they have a duty 2 offer checks and balances 2 the govt of the day and also giv them a pat on the bck when they do tht which is good.

  3. Congrats UPND for your constant and consistent standpoint to support the government of the day whenever it does a great job. I am also happy to note that you have not turned the Sata Family’s bereavement and evacution into a political game.
This is a solemn time for the nation at large and surely it is not time to try to fix the government in a corner by uttering unnecessary statements over buying of hospital specialist equipment. Yes we as Zambia need the much talked about equipment to allow many of us to receive sound diagnosis and medication from our local hospital, but the timing now allows us to focus on empathising with Hon Sata instead of throwing stones at each other.
    Keep it UPND

  4. That’s the way politics should go.checks and balances have to be provided. It’s a commendable thing for real.keep it up UPND.forget about scott and his fellow cadres who wish for bad for their leader.

  5. Do you really understand what politics is??. This is not a solemn period. This is a period of facing reality. How about news that Chilufya Sata committed suicide!!!! aha. What don’t we know what happened betwen Father and Son.
UPND does not talk on behalf of PF. PF position is that they will refund the money and we want it. Sata’s position is family one not the PF position…oh I forgot PF is a one man party and that man is SATA…
Ohhh what about the UPND, ohhhhhhhh it is another of those parties without clear position on anything, always reacting or following public opinions.. You want to be a meaningful Opposition, Start behaving as one.

  6. How many common men and women in Zambia die cos they can´t manage to get these treatments abroad?Sending Sata was indeed a good gesture but i think the gov´t should look into it that our own UTH can treat people in Zed no matter what positon they hold on society.Facilite UTH and make it affordable to all regardless

  7. HK, you are right. Kaunda as president was treated at UTH. Even just recently he was taken there. We should battress our hospitals with better medical facilities so that people could be treated locally and so enrich ourselves. Now we are enriching SA. The money we spent flying people out to SA and UK could be channeled locally to upgrade our hospitals and entice our specialised medical personnel to stay in Zed. LPM did well 4 Sata, but will he be doing that 4 everybody or only the “elect”. Hence the need for local medical facilites 4 all.

  8. Dont politicise things. UPND has consisently showed what it is to be a mature opposition party. Criticize the wrongs and give a credit to the rights. No one can ever take that from you as a party.

  9. HK is critical and a good political analyst! For sure UPND is a political party with no stamina! they can only win in one province….tell me which other place they have won after the 2006…the party is dead, its vision was buried once Mazoka died….then it was a balanced party with MPs from Southern, Western, Northwestern, Lusaka and part of eastern . For now its a shadow of one Man show!!! who is likely to dicth it come 2011, he says hi off to see Obama, Clinton and Mckenie for what!

As for PF unfortunetly its the same story…….one man Show now with a dictators face………..

  10. I dont know what consistency you are taking about! they almost got money form white farmers in Mazabuka! thay havent said anything critical on the rise of fuel prices so far and even the roads in Southern Province talk of the Livingstone Zimba Road…….have they talked?????we have no drugs now in UTH what has the Party said about it….the increase in prices when our VAT has been reduced…..has anyone sighted the exploitation of the retailers on the consumers? what exactly are you taking about consistency????There no jobs, have they protected the welfare of the villagers at the Nickel mine??? and what about the Uranium mine are they advising the people on how they could obtain royalties?

  11. We have people who get striped off their own land and cant get royalties which will last their generations to came and not building them small houses and pollute their land later on deplit the natural resouces , what has UPND Said………….Nothing

  12. My money is on HK. Guys check this, each time anyone of these goons gets sick, Govt will be folking out Taxpayer’s money in SA or overseas. If they have been doing this for the past 8years. It is conceivable that we would have set up a state of the art cardiac centre at UTH where the whole citizenry would be treated. I happen to have lost a relative to these whitey-diseases. when we realised she was not getting any better in Zed we flew her down to SA but little did we know it was too late as she had needed a triple by-pass at least months earlier! Point is if UTH had the right technology and facilities the correct diagnosis would have been made and that inncent life wouldn’t have been lost.

  13. If LPM can afford to spend taxpayer money on trash like SATA, surely if he is not a cabbage himself, he should have enough brains to let this be a wake up call. We need to upgrade our infrastructure for the benefit of the entire population and not just accord the treatment for political goons who don’t even add value to the well being of the country. Your family and my family, hard-working, taxpaying ordinary citizens of the land will not be evacuated to RSA should they be faced with similar life threatening ailmennts!!!

  14. UPND,s are foolishly thanking mwanawasa, knowing that tommorrow they will too need an evacaution, what a strategy. This clearly shows the desperation of these parties, stranded on LPM,s row,and soon or later they will start dancing to Levys tune.Truly its politics and tricks. As for sata thats the end of his career, the heart attack is as a result of (kaloba),the money he used for his campaign, financers want it back.
No party at the moment can reasonably challenge the incompetent MMD,we will continue wallowing in our povert, destined not to make it probably

  15. I never liked HH at all. He is such an arrogant man and even though he claims to thank Govt. for their quick response on the Cobra’s evacuation to RSA, I still dont trust his character.

  16. From the Daily Press statements, it looks like our politicians read this blog.
Let me tell them. We Zambians are serious. We need leadership which is mature, unifying, developmental, Corrupt free and patriotic without being racist and anti-Foreigners.
We want to build a proud Nation where everyone’s of us, from different backgrounds, race, color tribe and gender can live in harmony. Thats the reason I bash Sata. Thats the reason I bash UPND, thats the reason I bash MMD for their hooliganism and dull Ministers. Of all three majors, The MMD is little better but we deserve the Best…Oh I bash Kafupi for being a thief too and all criminals.

  17. HK, Gdef, Cjay and Ndife why dont you guys form a party and that will solve all these problems you have underlined?

  18. HK, you are a hyena,an ***** and big fool for that matter,do you understand? I don’t know why you always utter rubbish statements.

    *****,makaka wee!!!

  19. The truth hurts! whats wrong with being critical! especially with an economy now in 2 digit inflation, rising of pricing, Police everywhere asking for Standard number plates when the roads are in a state of shame…what is really wrong is not to talk about it……….especailly that UPND does not say all these issues to the people.

It had to take the NGOs and other foras to condemn the closing of CBU thats when UPND woke up!

If you have a perception that i should not blog and i should think the same way u think sorry i wont……….

  20. Timmy, I suppose you’re a bro. Please note HK’s comments in #20 above. This about constructive critism for the betterment of our beloved country. I for one applaude LT for affording us this opportunity to air our views in our own small way. And if our views can be heard by those we have mandated to run our country for us, we can only be spurred on. Please don’t forget these people work for us and I should hasten to say the minstry of infor. should be at the fore front of checking this blog, let alone support it. This forum accords zambians both home and abroad to air their views on what is going on in the country and thus provide valuable and input into (corporate) governance of our land!

  21. LPM’s swift action over Cobra is commendable whichever way you look at it.We hear PF wish to refund the state…please go ahead and hurry. If LPM waited for PF to “sort out” their presidents evacuation we would probably be debating a different outcome now!!As for UPND..they “lost it” when they chose Mazoka to stand again…that showed the absence of a leadership resevoir to call upon to ensure the future of the party. With the unfortunate demise of Mazoka so to followed the fortunes of the once mighty UPND!! It wouldn’t be surprising if PF follow suit should Cobra bow out of active “service” due to ill health!!!

  22. You are very right my brother,no26. I am told Dr.Scott has burning presidential ambitions especially that he knows HH is feeble to be a president therefore taking advantage to an extent of wanting the fearful King cobra to die.He is very upset that Levy acted swiftly to save Sata. A white man will never genuinely love a black person. So Sata must be careful with his vice.

  23. #27,i agree with you in part, but strongly take exception at your classification of Guy Scott being a white man who could never genuinely love a blackman!! This is country is as much Guy’s as it is probably yours!! just like the Boers of RSA you cannot deport him to anywhere as “anywhere” for this whiteman does not exist!!! lets exercise some maturity and racial decency so that even the other good points we make can be appreciated!!

  24. we need to find out how much of the contributions reach the intended.how about census or billboard advertisments to encourage patronage to the web site as a way of disemination and enlightment of the public. we need more than ever feed back guys on our contributions

  25. #30, public blogs are for an individual to express their opinion or even vent out their anger and/or frustrations!! it is not intended to provide a feedback environment for all issues.some feedback can only be expressed by way of an entry on a ballot paper!! by reading thru’ the many contributions by a cross section of people, one is either stimulated to offer a counter opinion or indeed to just shut up and continue reading or better still leave LT for another web page !!!

  26. No. 19
Even if its being against HH. Did you read the article above? HH did not utter any word yet you wrote,
“I never liked HH at all. He is such an arrogant man and even though he claims to thank Govt. for their quick response on the Cobra’s evacuation to RSA, I still dont trust his character”. Let me ask you a question:
Is the assertion that “Zambian don’t read correct?” I don’t want to believe this! Avoid your prejudice!

  27. We must all know that Levy loves Sata so much and he keep do everything possible to keep him alive bcos it is only him that keeps him working hard.

  28. Good comment UPND. Gentlemen if that old cobra was not evacuated and something bad happened, people were going to be on the neck of LPM calling him all sorts of names. He did the right thing to facilitate the transportation of the old snake

  29. UPND, that is a fair comment. we respect your opinion. what are other parties saying – HP, UNIP, RP, FDD PUDD ETC?

  30. I totally agree with no.38 there is only PF and MMD.However, here is no MMD in entire copperbelt and Lusaka urban.PF is leading all the way thru. That is the more reason Levy has to treat Sata so well bcos 2011 Sata will reciprocate by assisting Levy. Levy is so wise!

Ba HH is in China just slaughtering ma Chinese girls there and nothing else.

  31. Can someone tell me the treatment sata was receiving in sa other than the fact that he went down south, for all I hear an ecg was checked hes ok he might be coming home in next few days. as for now hes bp, pulse and temp are regularly being checked whilst hes reading the paper surely zambians and their zim neighbours are surely in comatose state!!

  32. #39,PF should ideally exist with or without Sata, just as MMD must strive to exist without LPM. when you have a situation where the leader is what makes the party, you have the UNIP situation…UNIP without KK is DEAD!!!LPM acted in the interest of democracy and Sata deserves such treatment in recognition of his contributions to our nation.Whether Sata is PF or MMD..he is a senior citizen who has given most of his working life to the service of Zambia…the least we can do is react quickly to save his life.LPM had a choice..a dead Sata would have been great for an easy victory but LPM is a human being not an animal!!

  33. #39,lets not forget it was Sata who made terrible comments about LPM’s health….but who between the two is in Jo’burg for treatment??? Isn’t life a funny thing ???

  34. #38 if there are only two political parties in Zambia how did the opposition get more votes in the last elections and still never formed Govt? I sense a deep and terrible hatred for HH on this blog, its dangerous for our small democracy. Lets not build such hatred, it might explode with time.

  35. I find it difficult to understand how a person who can’t an advice from his own wife about the dangers of smokiking can surely take good advise to lead the Country. You like it or not Sata and his unthakful PF are not the right people in State House. He is lucky that Mwanawasa is a gentleman, if it was him in the shoes of Mwanawasa he would not have done the same. The friend would have died. Rather than attack HH, concetrate on adding more pressure to Sata so that he can quit smoking. The advice from Doctors in SA is not enough alone because he has received such advice from his own wife Dr Kaseba.

  36. I only hope the NCC which Sata has fired his members for will introduce a law to bar old fashioned politicians who cannot think of retiring even at the age of 70. Where was he all along for him to think of ruling Zambia at this late hour? This time Zambia needs intellectual to take the helm of leadership of the Country. Such leadership can only be found in the likes of HH and Clive Chirwa. We have honestly seen how Zambia has improved economically during the reign of Mwanawasa an intellectual and we know very well what Zambia was like when we had Sata and his close ally Chiluba in power. They did nothing but grab people’s wives and multiply their wealthy at the expense of every other Zambian

  37. We don’t wish people dead but Zambia is a better place without Sata in politics. People should know when to step aside for competent leaders to come in. Sata and his scorpion kadobi were terrosrist of the highest kind during the campaigns for the third term of his ally Chiluba (the thief) and today only a shallow minded character so tribal and low in thinking would ever think of voting for Sata. We have heard people attack our friends the tongas and UPND of being tribal but the majority of the support this crook (Sata) enjoys in on tribal grounds. I am happy that Zambia is not the Copperbelt and Lusaka provinces alone and it was just proved so when Sata terribly lost the last elections.

  38. Credit should always be offered when it’s due. Thanks LPM, for flying Sata, and my condolences to the Sata family. WE all agree UTH needs upgrading, but that’s something that cannot be done overnight. THere’s a lot of time , money and effort that needs to be done, and it is very simple to do. Infact we need another major hospital in Zambia, and we need to do something about our Doctors salarys. THey are ridiculous, the Doctors get paid more in other countries, or working for NGO’s which do not require them to practice. Before we improve our medical faciities, we should make sure we have our very own experts practicing in our country, and that they are getting what they deserve.
