Faz might consider hiring local coach

Share

Faz have said they are open to look at options for a local coach in the wake of Herve Renard’s departure as Zambia coach.

Faz communications officer Erick Mwanza said on Wednesday at the weekly press briefing at Football House in Lusaka that the possibility of a local trainer taking over will be considered by the executive committee.

“It is one of the considerations,” Mwanza said. “Les us look at numerous options that we have and look at the merits. We will take into considerations all the permutations.”

And asked as to whether Renard’s former assistant George Lwandamina will be in charge in an interim capacity, Mwanza was non-committal.

“We will make a statement to that effect,” Mwanza said.

Renard resigned as Zambia coach this week after three years at the helm since 2008 and quit two month short of the expiry of his contract.

His assistants and fellow Frenchman Patrice Beaumelle also stepped down.

  1. BA Mwanza. We need to move fast. appoint a local coach for CHAN as you look around for the coach for the National team.AS it is now, we have no coach and no team to play in chain on may 22. wake up guys.

  2. The trouble with FAZ is failure to pay local coaches. Whereas the expatriate coaches are always paid their dues, local coaches usually have to fight tooth and nail just to get the little money that they work for. I do know if Ben Bamfuchile’s family was finally paid what FAZ owed him. I doubt if Patrick Phiri has been paid all that he worked for as Zambia coach. And then there is Kalusha Bwalya himself who is still owed millions from the time he coached Zed. Somehow when it is expatriate coaches, money is found to pay them. When it is Zambian coaches, they are told to wait until tomorrow to be paid.

  3. #2 Patrick Phiri and the late Ben Bamfuchile could be owed money by FAZ .
But Kalusha was paid $10,000 monthly in addition to paid for accommodation at Pamodzi hotel for almost 1 year.I wonder what money he could be owed.

  4. It is the same old story: When they have spent all the money on ‘expats’ then they need a local to pay peanuts!!

  5. Third world mentality at work! –
Empower your own people first, before giving jobs away. Kanshi chaba shani ku Zambia!

  6. #3 Well, I remember Kalusha claiming that he was owed several millions of kwacha. I cannot remember the figure exactly, but FAZ was actually asked to review the amount, and perhaps even revise it. I am not sure if that was done. But I don’t remember seeing a report stating that Kalusha was eventually paid what he was owed. So for all I know, FAZ might still owe him millions.

  7. There is no Zambian coach who can move us forward the reason being that they are corrupt. We need someone who will continue with the same team that Renard has left. In short we need CONSISTENCY which Zambian coaches lack. Experiment days are over and we need the team that represented us at last africa cup to continue with the inclusion of few players.

  8. Lucky Msiska, Johnson Bwalya, Charles Musinda etc etc guys u think all these guys don’t give a f.u.c.k. about the chipolopolo n.o.n.s.e.n.s.e. Come on guys…!!!! FAZ are doing enough?

  9. Do not take us backwards, you should hire a proper coach that will take Zambia to the World Cup. Zambia also deserves to participate at World Cups. FAZ to make a sound decision and should not be in a haste. Lwandamina can act presently.

  10. That Renard boy is disrespectful and his departure is long overdue.Actually FAZ must be commended for acting so professional to his careless statements. Meanwhile we need a local coach and pay him highly like Algeria has done.A coach who can communicate in local language with the boys. All the best to renard.

  11. The problem with Faz is that its full of hurters Kalu being one of them.let Eric go so that you can save same money how do you have two people doing the same job Emma and Eric being in communication.that way the local coach will able to recieve his/her dues.i have included her because with Kalu you never know we might have the wife as our coach.i don’t just trust this guy any more.

  12. #3 Kalu was paying for himself at Pamodzi and on zambian coaches taking up the job i think we all know how corrupt ur coaches are!! if in doubt just check the national age group teams(u17/u20) – almost half are former footballers children. Those that are picked on merit are the ones that normally progress very well but many good ones are left-out in frastration and the nation consequently misses out on good talent.

  13. FAZ should have a deliberate police of training couches abroad. These coaches are just sent for a short course by their respective clubs. Not Pick a coach just because at club level he is doing fine. FAZ should train coaches and attach them to clubs. This can do a long way in improving our football

  14. Local coaches may be good but they are simply corrupt and this has always affected their choice of players.Renard picked Mboola from division2 no zambian coach saw him.and his choice was confirmed by his performance and his subsequent move to europe. Then Totenham saw exactly what renard saw.The proposed fee of a million pounds for Mboola stirred the true Zambian’s greed and jealousy and the rest is history

  15. A Zedian coach should be hired and appropriately trained. We need to start building our own capacity now. We should take the first step now and work on all our weaknesses as they unfold. Don’t fear corruption – it’s part of us until we fight it right from plot 1 !!!

  16. Ian Potterfield, Poulsen, Brouwer, Ziese, Renard … WE MUST FORM A RESISTANCE!!! Nkasako if these foreign managers have some pedigree on the international stage.

  17. You do not just hire a loacl coach from the streets just because the club is doing well. Our league is not that competitive. Secondly Kalu was paying for himself for room 412 at Pamodzi. There is no other coach with UEFA grade A licence aprt from Kalu. I think janza has one but I dont know the equivalent. FAZ is not responsible for training coaches. They MUST train themselves like Kalu and late bamfuchile((MHSRIP). Ben had to quit coaching and go to Holland to do his training. Most importantly there is no LONG term period for coaching. it’s in pieces unless you are doing physical education. As we speak FAZ is send Albert Kachinga among other for short courses in Holland. There is a slot for 2 coaches every year. if you send a national team for a course who will remain coaching?

  18. For me the best coach zambia has ever had was Palsen. Let us look for him…..Remember he is the one who groomed the team that came second from Nigeria after the demise of the senior team.

  19. Renard stepped down together with the phyusical trainer Patrice Beaumelle. Aaah Aba bantu. They just came to mint cool money. Why has Renard not taken Lwandamina as well if he loved him dearly? Why?
lets go for Stephen Keshi. He was in charge of Togo when they hammered us 4 – 1 during the last world cup qualifiers. He can polish us up and is committed. After that in future we can try Wedson Nyirenda. By then he would have picked up enough experience.

  20. #24, u think they came here as volunteers? Lwandamina is not likely to cut it in another team, love is not enough to make it in life. You need pedigree.

As for Stephen Keshi, I wonder why you’d go with somebody that hasn’t delivered at all. My suggestion is that we hire William Banda and move on to matters of economic development.
