Attorney General asked to compensate voter

Share

The Lusaka High Court has asked Attorney General Abyud Shonga to compensate a voter who lost an eye in the violence that marred the Mufumbwe Parliamentary by-election.

High Court-Judge-in-Charge Phillip Musonda said the potential voter is a poor man who should be compensated.

Judge Musonda said that as leader of the bar, the Attorney General should avoid unnecessary litigation for compensation because the affected person cannot even afford to engage a lawyer.

The Judge described the injury caused to the voter as an evil act. Judge Musonda made the remarks after handing down Judgment in the petition for the Mufumbwe by election, in which he nullified the election of UPND’s Elliot Kamondo as Member of Parliament.

And in a related development, Judge Musonda has urged police not to condone any form of violence from political parties.

The Judge said anyone who perpetuates violence must be arrested regardless of political affiliation.

  1. Should it take the judge to advise the Attorney General the role he should play in such incidents? is our AG also ignorant about the law like this poor Zambian who needed help in form of legal advise. May God help us. the poor man lost his eyes and no body came to his help. Not even NGOs who have now become politicians.

  2. I am saying BYE to you all fellow bloggers, I will be going back to my beloved country next week for the festival season. I encourage you all to join me and get back to Zambia if you can.Dont stay too long in a foreign country, you will feel like a stranger when you finally decide to go back.

I JUST WISH THERE WAS A WAY OF MEETING PEOPLE LIKE SENIOR CITIZEN AND HAVE SOME FUNNY WHILE RECALLING THE GOOD MOMENTS OF EXCHANGING VIEWS ON LT. PLEASE TAKE CARE AND REMEMBER THAT ZAMBIA IS OUR COUNTRY IRRESPECTIVE OF OUR POLITICAL ASSOCIATION. MERRY XMAS AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL.

  3. Where are the greedy lawyers who can get good money for compensation for the man who lost an eye?

Must be out drinking with those miners who got shot by the Chinese.

  4. I need to be educated on this one, what do these cadres get in return for this support? Do the politicians even care about those who voted for them any where?. Any how this should be a lesson to other cadres.

#3 you make me miss home, and have safe trip.

  5. People losing eyes, lives, teeth, and serious injuries. Yet to this day i have never heard of a single person who has been convicted of these bloody atrocities. maybe it was witchcraft working, it is not just possible. This is the problem of hiring cadres from other places to terrorise innocent villagers without cause. And yet the chief cop kabonde kaponya was just in the vicinity. Zed really sucks.

  6. # 5, that is a very good question for Senior Citizen, Veteran, Capitalist and MMD Bootlicker, Lady Gaga,(I really don’t know if a cadre can be a lady) and William Banda.

  7. All political parties are just full of kolwes, be it MMD PF UPND FDD. why should this poor man loose his eye just to put HH in State house, or his MP in Parliament. Have any of the politicians he was loosing his eye for even visited him in hospital i wonder..?? The primitivity in our political system is overwhelming!
Politics should be a service to the people. i would like to see RB, HH and Sata fight to pick up the garbage at Soweto market, let them fight to clean the UTH mortuary. As the bible says to be a king you must be a slave first. if they cant do that, then non of them are fit to be in state house.

  8. How much compensation would be enough to equal the damage caused on the poor villager. He’s got a permanent scar to last his lifetime and wonder just how much this Animal Farm Attorney General will be instructed to pay as compensation. Judge Musonda hasn’t indicated just how much should be paid, could be 10kwacha

  9. Seems like something is missing here. Judge Musonda to pacify the millions he has angered what does he do? He throws in a case that was not in his court at that time. Meanwhile foolishly, he fails to rule on the murder by Muzungu. Muzungu killed innocent people. When will Musonda in his cadre ruling hang Muzungu for murder?

  10. No matter how many millions can be given to this cadre the eye will never be replaced and that is where you cadres should learn it..very sad that becouse of some foolish chap hitting him on the eye,he has remained blind permanently on one eye..you cadres surprise me alot why do you engage in fighting?what do you gain in insulting? what do you gain in all the stupidity that you decide to engage yourselves in? WHICHEVER POLITICAL PARTY YOU ARE AFFILIATED TO,IT WILL NOT PAY TO FIGHT FOR YOUR LEADER,HE WILL REMAIN SMART AND YOU WILL REMAIN CRYING AT AN INDUCEMENT OF 50PIN…SHAME SHAME SHAME..THE BEST IS TO REMAIN NON PARTISAN AND VOTE WISELY

  11. Why should the AG be brought into this fracas? Ba Judge just wants to atone for his wrong judgement, that is what I think.
