POLICE in Chinsali have intercepted a group of Patriotic Front (PF) cadres as they schemed to attack Education Minister Dora Siliya to frustrate her tour of Northern Province where she has been addressing meetings and touring development projects since last week.

Ms Siliya is leading a team of Government and MMD officials to the province and she is today expected in Mpika on a similar mission.

One of the suspects has since been arrested in connection with the scheme and charged with conduct likely to cause the breach of peace.

Police spokesperson Ndandula Siamana confirmed and named the suspect as Smiler Chambwa, 27.

Local Government and Housing Deputy Minister Moses Muteteka, who is part of the delegation, also confirmed the incident in an interview from Chinsali yesterday.

Mr Muteteka said alert police intercepted the group and arrested one PF cadre from the scheming centre at night and he was immediately locked up at Chinsali Police Station.

The group had been discussing plans to attack the minister not knowing that police and other Government officials were listening to the conversation and immediately filed a formal report before Chinsali Police Station.

Confusion started during the day when PF Kasama Central Member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba unleashed cadres at the market where Ms Siliya was addressing a meeting and threw stones at the rooftops as some residents bolted.

The cadres were allegedly given beer hours before the meeting started and that followed a series of successful meetings conducted in Kasama, Luwingu and Mporokoso which infuriated Mr Mwamba and organised cadres to follow the minister’s entourage to Chinsali.

Mr Mwamba denied the allegations yesterday, saying he was already popular and had no reason to sponsor cadres to cause harm on Ms Siliya.

Mr Mwamba, who is also PF chairperson for elections, said he did not believe in violence but peaceful campaigns which was the reason he had started campaigning that the whole province votes for PF in this year’s elections.

Mr Muteteka expressed disapproval of PF machinations, especially that the ruling party allowed Mr Sata to address cadres even in areas where the MMD was popular in the spirit of promoting national unity and enhancing democracy.

He said the ideal situation was to allow all political contenders to address the Zambian voters peacefully so that they were given chance to elect leaders from an informed position.

Mr Muteteka, who is also MMD national youth chairperson, said many mistakes had been exposed in the management of Constituency Development Funds (CDF) and cited Chinsali District where a relative of a civic leader collected money to construct a clinic but abused K60 million without digging a foundation.

He said stoning Ms Siliya would not help matters but that the issue would still be investigated and the culprits would be arrested until the resources were accounted for.Mr Muteteka said PF had organised a public rally in Kasama this Sunday to attempt to defuse the impact of Ms Siliya’s campaigns.

He said the Government would not be detracted by the dirty campaign activities by PF but would continue to address the people of Northern Province to make them understand the Government’s vision for Zambia.

Mr Muteteka said if the tour was not undertaken, the Government would not have known that CDF was being shared by relatives of MPs at the expense of service provision to the people.

  3. Ba Dora you are scared of your own shadow i thought you are i brave women as you claim just come down no one can do anything to you just wait for September i hope you have plan B

  4. Why attacking such a hard working Minister! Those who are playing with law should find it tough. These are not good indicators for elected regime.

  5. And yet the election date is still a mystry only known to RB’s dick. All the ****ing ministers are now in the countryside doing what? campaigning of course. Zed is fu.cked up.

  6. IS THIS WOMAN MARRIED?? IF NOT, WHAT IS SHE DOING IN POLITICS WHICH WILL LAND HER IN JAIL IN THE NEAR FUTURE INSTEAD OF LOOKING FOR A HUSBAND???? OR IS SHE ALREADY COURTING ONE WITHIN THE MMD?? I THINK SO MWE!!!!! WHY ARE THEY ALWAYS TOGETHER????

  7. Charity begins at home. Even an enemy deserves respect. If the comments here are a reflection of whats to come under PF, then i fear for mother Zambia.:(

  8. LOLest, how can arresting one person be PF scheming to beat up Siliya? These Chinsali people are well known for being straight forward when they do not like to be ruled by conmen and women of Siliyas’ calibre. At one time after the passing on of the late Simon Kapwepwe, they threw eggs, stones and all sorts of missiles at KKs’ motorcade. The CDF accusation is just like the suspending of Lusaka Citu Council to create opportunities for MMD cadres. So when Siliya arrived she was informed by the very very few MMD cadres that they did not benefit from the CDF as this is handled by the constituency committee chaired by the MP who in this case is PF! Greedy, greedy greedy MMD cadres. VIVA PF, VIVA MCS!

  9. You can condemn RB or Dora Siliya herself, but it won’t wash with me. In this country there is no room for attacking each other. What if in their efforts they made a mistake and killed her while on duty. That could lead to an all out war, because William Banda and Dora Siliya’s relatives won’t just sit down and accept that okay Dora has been murdered by PF cadres there is nothing we can do. Civil wars have been ignited that way in other countries. That just goes to show the calibre of PF and how they don’t deserve to be in govt. How can you have their President leaking secrets and creating a state of anarchy within his own party, while at the same time you have his own cadres plotting to attack serving ministers in government. PF is a bunch of monkeys!

  10. And these are the people you want to rule Zambia? I dont support MMD either but this kind of behavior is uncalled for. I fear for this country.

  11. Who would attack this miserable woman? Dollar $iliya is so afraid of her own shadow believing its PF cadres following her.

  12. oh gosh you people are so pathetic! # 1, is it childishness or what? and # 10 are you for real? that’s rather a dull observation! and #16, it takes one to know the other!

  13. i forgot my mistake! 8-| “To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others.”

  14. DORA,U JUST DESPERATE.U KNOW U ARE LOOSING GRIP OF YOUR POST.FIND YOUR SELF A MAN GIRL,SEE YOU ARE REACHIN MENOPAUSE SOON.VIVA PF

  15. clear signs of desperation in our government in waiting. pf boasts of national popularity, so it is just hot air? a party which is sure of its popularity and winning does not unleash cadres on innocent citizens especially a woman. but then what do you expect from mwamba the wife batterer? that pf fears dora is now clear beyond doubt. it is also clear who will win 2011.

  16. PF and it gender violence is doomed from the word go even before elections are announced. While they are busy hallucinating and squabbling for insulting space in a tabloid, Ministers and MMD campaign structures are scattered all over the country shaping up a reelection national victory campaign. And where will this Gender violence take PF kaponyalism in the eyes of women and the UN and SADC Gender charter?

Violence against one woman is violence against all Zambian women. If anything, 65% of Zambian women are not married. Should they face violence at the hands of PF kaponyalism phobic to educated women in public office? And if the strategy is violence is the PF strategy this year, will they be campaigning from the space station via satellite to guarantee their own safety?

  17. The problem about MMD don’t talk about real issues always talking about sata, why. These guys don’t know what they are doing. When they build, schools, roads and hospitals, they are not doing us a favour and it’s their money. When they go out of power they won’t go with the money and this money is from the donors. Fuseki fi MMD. This year you are going ba kapoli

  18. The beautiful zambian woman, you are such a brilliant lady with a lot of determination. Ministers like you are what we need to move our country forward.People only hate what they like so beautiful lady all these people who say bad things about you it’s because they like you so much that it hurts to realise they don’t have you on their side!Just look at how Mulongoti has been embraced by PF who showered him with all sorts of insults when he was chief govt spokesperson. In the last tripartite elections GBM was being decampaigned by PF in Kabwata and today GBM is a darling to PF!People love u Dora.Ala pali iwe ba PF tabalala utulo adorable Dora. You are a role model to our young ladies. From news reader to minister, I respect you mama.Dora for plot 1, come 2016 !!!!

  19. Interesting, so our Police is capable of arresting people at planning level? This just proves that our ZP is an extension of the MMD Militia Wing, under the command of one William Banda (who is suddenly not making headlines as he is busy enjoying the spoils from the bus stations and markets K1m/day), with RB as CIC.

I’m not surprised that the ZP is behaving like this to paint PF as a violent Party, when they failed to arrest MMD cadres who openly threatened to GANG RAPE NAWAKWI, send a MILITIA FROM NDOLA TO SORT OUT BISHOP DUFFY, threatened to kill some of their own members if they attended the convention, ATTACKED THE PF CONFERENCE, TERRORISING PEOPLE AT BUS STATIONS/MARKETS. etc. Behaving like the Egyptian Police.

I wonder which security wing will protect Citizen’s interests.

  20. Condemn violent equally. Evidence so far suggests that MMD cadres have been more violent in many more provocative incidents. Some even drove into crowds of innocent Zambians when they lost elections. Mufumbwe will not be forgotten. I also remember one incident where even the Commissioner of Police went into hiding because of the violent MMD cadres. The hour has come for the hour to go.

  21. Yes indeed the hour has come for the hour to go a step further in taking development to all parts of Zambia!

  22. Shameless woman. We have not forgotten the Chirwa tribunal.Similar tribunals will be revived when PF comes into power and this so called “beautiful woman” will look as ugly as hell as she ages day by day attending the same tribunals and court cases that will follow. That goes for all other plunderers and those who have abused power in this current MMD administration. When that day comes some people will have the last laugh.

  23. ok so i lost my inexpensive 10 buck replica combine that looked like these… so today i went along to sunglass hut since i have received hard cash and amazon online doesn’t acquire hard cash… so i used these combine on, and was pretty pleased, despite the fact that used to get the drastically wrong combine, i shoulda became fuel cell’s.
