Road Development Agency managers inspect the Mongu Kalabo road

The construction of the Mongu to Kalabo road in the Western Province is set to resume this month end.

This follows the reduction of water levels in the flood plains.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works and Supply Watson Ng’ambi has told ZNBC News inLusaka.

Mr. Ng’ambi says forty Chinese experts are already in Mongu.

Mr. Ng’ambi says government is also expecting additional engineers from China to arrive on Saturday.

He also says additional equipment for the construction of the Mongu-Kalabo road has started arriving into the country.

Mr. Ng’ambi is optimistic that the construction of the road will be completed within the stipulated timeframe of four years.

Government is constructing the Mongu-Kalabo road at a cost of one point three trillion kwacha.

The road is top on government developmental agenda.

The contractor had early this year suspended works on the Mongu to Kalabo road following rising water levels in the flood plains.

  1. Why has this road been left in such bad condtion? Does it get washed away every rainy season, and attended to every year after water levels have gone down?

  2. Those Chinese engineers should have come during the floods to see the what, the where, the how etc of the flooding, dah!

  3. Good bridges/ roads are built above the flood lines which the Chinese should have seen before hand. This is an important road but I may see Govt rushing and messing it up again. They should build something similar to the Tuta bridge.

  4. rb campaigning again, what say ye pf cadres? okay, bwana sata will talk about it in his daily radio shows.

  5. Dont play with the Barotse waters. Serious studies should be carried before venturing into this huge project. Chinese have not experienced this plain and the gushing waters. I love your determination but along the engineers do their homework. Climate change challenges overwhelm the science calculations. I suggest Senanga route via Shangombo was a better alternative. Mark my words. I am a scientist too. I love RB  but do not accept the building of the road across the plain.

  6. Oh yes consult other engineers from Japan, German, USA and UK too. Chinese have difficulties in language communications. There is a need to look at the rainfall trends and return periods over 1000 years using regression models.  I enjoy the modern science Chinese are some of the best engineers I just wanted to them to get into real historical back ground of the mighty waters of Barotse plains. Take note of  some black magic in these waters. Spiritual consultations necessary from serious Christians without which lives will be lost.

  7. Just sort out drainage, have a maintenance during dry season programme when you build a the road with acceptable standard spec.layers and everything will be okay…if in doubt consult the Dutch a quarter of their country was constructed on flood plains!!

    • I”m agree with you, Maverick. We were working at Yuka Advent. Hospital, and making trips each flood time. Waters are too strong. It should be consulted with experienced people who is fighting with them, and work at the flood time looking how the waters are resisting bridges. Hope, it will work out. All the best!

  8. # 6 – Mwelwa maiche wandi ulishani? You are absolutely right, the Senanga Kalongola Kalabo route would have been the most logical and ideal. But then, looking at ifinangwa ifi called the MMD government, we cannot expect them to do the logical thing. To them, everything is perceived from a politics and “nichekeleko naine” point of view. When the new government comes into power, I will not be sorry to see people hanged for plunder.
