Home affairs minister Edgar Lungu says none of the opposition members condemning the Public order Act has approached the government to see how best the piece of legislation can be applied.

Mr. Lungu has said government has called on all the people with concerns to seek an audience with it but that none of them has shown interest.

Mr. Lungu has further indicated that the Public order Act is not a law but that what matters is how it is applied.

The minister has noted that the PF government will not compromise the national peace and stability by quashing laws that are meant to protect the citizens from lawlessness.

And Mr. Lungu says government has nothing to do with the operations of the police and will not in any way intervene in their operations.

He added that it is therefore illogical for the opposition to claim that their planned rally would be a big test to the PF government to prove whether it respects the rule of law.

  1. More of the same! This PF Government is an extension of the MMD rule, but wait its a question of time the Zambians are no longer docile as Chiluba once put it ,we are watching!

  2. I wonder why the opposition should approach the government concerning the Public Order Act when PF was complaining about it just a year ago when they were in the opposition. Have you forgotten how frustrating it was under MMD? Well, this is worse because now you cannot even visit chiefs. Yaba!

  3. Typical of our opposition. It is just day in and day out making alarming statements without even giving us a clue how they themselves as opposition can help solve some of the perceived problems. How sad.

  4. the PF government will not compromise the national peace and stability by quashing laws that are meant to protect the citizens from lawlessness. I suppose opposition parties seeking to hold political rallies is detrimental to national peace and stability? Explain that Mr. Minister.

  5. This statement is self contradictory. How can a normal minister say no one has approached govt and on the other hand saying you are not ready to squash laws…. and on the other part the POA is not a law but how you apply it- How is PF applying it? discriminatory as evidenced in Mpongwe?

This man does not even qualify to be a minister it is only that in the party of blind people uwe linso limo kuti abe mfumu. Abamano bomfwe

  6. this rizard of a minister. there is no sense in what he is saying. who can approach a person who suffers from indecision. a drunkard who cant reason? only your fellow pathetic fo.ols can approach you.

  7. Please iwe chakolwa Edgar and your foolishy PF thugs don’t insult our intelligence we know u have been arresting opposition members in the name of unlawful assembly using that thug Solomon jere so please stop insulting us. I swear upon the soil of mother Zambia PF will be a one term useless government come 2016

    • It’s the power of numbers you may say that but majority will decide Oppostion has no agenda they want to use rallies to bring chaos we refuse in Jusus name

  8. Edgar the problem is you are always drunk or with a hang over, PF rules through the media so if thats your medium of communication am sure you have come across the complaints, if thats the case so what is your President talking about when he admitted that the Public Order Act is good for the party in Government and when Kabimba said PF never promised to abolish the same ACT as i said you must have been intoxicated as usual. The man smells of cigarette and alcohol as early as 8 HRS.

  9. If the minister is implying there is no problem with the POA but how it is applied (by the Police) then it is up to him as minister responsible for the Police to ensure it is properly applied. Some one has to take responsibility, the Police are not a law unto themselves.

  10. Repeat that the Government has no hand in the operations of the POLICE. its either you don’t know what you are talking about or you are again drunk? WHOSE THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF? WHO ORDERED TO KILL LOZI’S WHEN THEY SAY FA? WHO APPOINTED STELA LIBOGANI AND SOLOMON JERE?

  11. Eee, HH and Nevers should approach GRZ about it, not just yupping and barking about it. Even MPs are there to play a role of changing some of the archaic laws. Do they wand HEMCS to do everything for them instead of him worrying about my food on the table. That act for me is not an issue, it is food, education and health that matter.

  12. This man is contradicting himself he was not himself at time of putting this statement I think he was working under the influence of alcohol how can Edgar lungu say he won’t quash abusive laws and again he says POA is not law, please any act of parliament is law

  13. M.M.D and Nevers Mumba complaining about the P.O.A when only yesterday they organised the beating of their S.G Kachingwe. These are double standards that only make the opposition weaker.

  14. Bwana Edger Lungu, you are a Lawyer and you know that the Public Order Act was inacted by the British Colonial Government in order to control the Africans and to supress them following the very unjust law. It is interesting that all of you politicians when you are in Opposition, you complain about the Public Order Act. When you go into government, you forget about what you were complaining about. Public Order Act is not a good Law for the Democratic despensation. You just have to strengthen the Police and other law enforcement agencies. Change or the same law will come and be used against you when you become an opposition Party.

  15. This govt means well, when you guys are in trouble you will condemn the govt for lack of security measures but you are being protected well in advance you complain!

  16. # 4 and # 13 are typical PF Zealots who see nothing wrong in whatever PF is doing. If today PF told them to starve they will without asking any questions. Surely does the opposition need to approach Government over the application of a law? This is a strange phenomenon. If this is the type of leadership PF has, then we are heading towards a big dive into the sea.

  17. “Mr. Lungu has said government has called on all the people with concerns to seek an audience with it but that none of them has shown interest.”
How was this invitation done via a press statement, via letters to the opposition via a motion in parliament?

  18. SATA is so good at lying because he got his Degree POST NEWSPAPER UNIVERSITY and was given an open book exam hence he passed with a C – . As for Kabimba his failed his exam despite having intensive extra lessons by George Chellah, a leakage, open book exam no wonder his not a very good LIER,his a fighter been trained by Willie Nsanda was hired.

  19. give your friends a chance to express themselves through rallies. Mwanawasa never pinned u like this when u were in opposition. why mwakosa umutima so bama mbala

  20. Hakainde mobilizes hungry and jili power mobs to police stations whenever he is called to explain his verbal diarrhoea. imagine there is no POA?

  21. concernedcitizen its not true what you are saying Did PF govt order the police to kill Lozis? Possibly there is a degree of relapse in your memory. Kindly research before you make any comment. If you have little or nothing to say kindly spare us with no contributions. Look at what has been happening in western province where there are people who want to start the govt but Sata has kept quite and this is what a president should do. Recent when OBAMA WON the election people petioned wanting to break away from USA BUT Obama has remained silence because losers always want to provoke the winner the same with HH, mumba, Mulupi, Sikota. why chipimo junior or nawaki getting involved because they know the moves are out of hate, envy and provocation to make the govt fail to govern but wont work

  22. Pray. Pray. Pray Prayer.

    God is not blind.

    God is not defy.

God has feelings for his people.

    God defends his people.

    And everything has time???????????????? Prayer
