Information and Broadcasting Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga has labeled Zambia Association of Musicians President Maiko Zulu an embarrassment to musicians in the country.

Mr. Malupenga said Zulu previously known as St Maiko is always quick to criticize government’s commitment to fighting piracy without getting basic understanding of what government was doing about curbing piracy.

“The Rastafarian always wants to attack government that we are killing the musicians but what is disappointing is that Maiko doesn’t know what the government had been working on all this time,” Mr. Malupenga said.

Mr Malupenga was speaking in Lusaka Wednesday morning during a media breakfast meeting held to announce the arrival of a Hologramme to be used in the fight against audio video piracy.

A hologram is a security feature which will be affixed on audio-visual works as a measure to curb piracy in the country.

Government recently engaged OpSec, a UK-based global company specialized in providing anti-counterfeiting and brand protection solutions to supply hologram to Zambia which has now finished its designs.

“It is disappointing that we had invited Maiko to be part of this breakfast in his capacity as President of all Musicians in Zambia but the man declined. I believe that if he had attended this meeting, he would have been in a better position to appreciate what the government is doing to fight piracy in Zambia.”

He said, “The Ministry of Information does not need St Michael, its St Michael who needs the Ministry. He has been exhibiting a lot of frustration and ignorance on this matter and yet he is the one who is supposed to be the one speaking on behalf of Musicians in this country.”

“It is sad that the President of Musicians is the most ignorant on matters of music piracy,” he said.
Mr. Malupenga said the coming in of a Hologramme will to result in a drastic reduction in pirated goods on the Zambian market.

But when reached for a comment, Maiko said he declined to attend the media breakfast because of short notice.
He also said musicians in Zambia wanted to be consulted in the designing of the Hologramme and not just to be informed about it.

  1. wabepafye pirated music reduction or coming to an end,na you tube is there, i will not buy i ll be waiting on you tube to download

  2. U should have promised him Weed, ba malupenga naimwe, u coming out so hard on the wailorman, his just trying to behave like a bumboklaat….

  3. The problem with Micheal Zulu is his failure for him to understand that music in an Industry. Music in no longer a charity so if the gorvernment does not give you freebies you should not be annoyed with it for the rest of your life. Music if properly run in Zambia can create employment and generate a lot of money like it is doing in other countries. Michael Zulu thinks the gorvernment owes musicians, NO, musicians owes the gorverment in taxes. It is about time music and football started making its own money and stop crying to the gorvernment all the time. These Industries are money spinners and not these beggers we see now.

    • Michael knows that the arts (music included) are an industry but you should not expect him to form a private army arresting people involved in pirating. That is the job of the government. Moreover, these musicians are paying taxes on their products. Government is just sleeping on the job.

How do you have a function to announce delivery of a simple Holographic machine? Yaba!

    • Its good to see intelligent people like kci, intelligent enough as to actually analyse the issue as it is. People get real, look at how much uncollected revenue goes with the pirated tapes, all this if collected would at onetime reduce the tax that a few of us are paying for the whole country.
Today its St Micheal, last week its Dandy crazy. You guys chose the careers you are in and things do not work out, stop blaming the government for your failures. We are all just striving to make it and have never even got a free ticket from the government, but we are not negative to it. How has JK managed to rise above the occasion, emulate him and grow up.

  4. BOMA NI BOMA ZOONA,TODAY MALUPENGA HAS THE POWER TO EVEN INSULT ST MICHAEL ONE OF THE MOST RESPECTED MUSICIANS PA ZED. ANYWAY EVERY DOG HAS GOT IT’S OWN DAY AND EVERY FOOL IN ERROR ALWAYS FINDS A SCRIPTURE TO BACK HIM.

  5. Malupenga doesn’t even deserve that job. Just deal with your failers. Musiyeni mufana munamupeza muzamusiya. Did u see your friend Sam Zulu anachosa nsapato. Be careful what you say the gov is for pipo. U are in that office coz of us the citizens not vise versa. Watch yo mouth.

  6. IWE MALUPENGA, HOW DO U INVITE SOMEONE AT SHORT NOTICE LIKE THAT AND YOU ARE DISAPPOINTED FOR NOT TURNING UP. YOU ARE THE DISAPPOINTMENT YOURSELF. SIKU POST UKO KWEULILI.

  7. Pathetic Fools govt, full of big headed monkeys…. thinking you’ll forever be in power, stop intimidating maiko zulu he is not a politician. ur oredy harrassing HH is it not enuf for you?

  8. I for once does not even listen to Zed music, it is trash and boring, the same language atase lousy music. Pirated or not, I hate it with passion.

  9. a hologram doest stop anyone from generattin an mp3 . 500 songs from differnt artist. on a flashdisc or cd from city market. no logo needed

  10. In what gives a glimpse of the source of his crookedness, psychopathy and bitterness , Hakainde Hichilema has disclosed that he grew up a poor boy with no shoes and used to walk for over thirty kilometres to get to school, while carrying containers of chibwantu and Mabisi.

  11. If u read between the lines, this is not an isolated incident. Micheal Zulu happens to be very close to Given Lubinda so he is just taking his share of the Lubinda mud.

  12. Downloading is note piracy you *****.
Michael should just humble himself, if he thinks things can’t work ngati eve kulibe shauli take…

  13. Mr. Amos Malupenga, don’t become too pompass!! That political appoint you are holding will not last forever. When advising musicians or any other fellow citizens, talk to them with dignity they deserve. They are not your children you know!!

  14. Malupenga how ignorant can you be…..is this the level of idiocity you have running the Poat Newspaper with all these years? If fighting piracy only came to a hologram wouldn’t this problem have been solved even before you were born you bunkum. Respect other people and learn to address others with dignity. Maiko Zulu is not paid by you and does not rely on govt to pay him, unlike you. So don’t talk as if you didn’t use tissue in the toilet. Maiko Zulu has been on the scene for longer than you and your post. Try to lose some weight, may be fat has now entered your brains and you can’t see properly. Being PS does not give you any right to insult another prominent person like that. We will see you on the outside in a few years.

  15. ok let me get this right Amos Malupenga. I thought genuine products already have security features like Holograms etc..that fakes don’t have? So putting extra (Holograms and the like) security features, thats what will curb piracy; And you call Maiko Zulu embarrassing.. he must be thinking,’ who put these morans in power?’

  16. Amos Malupenga should realise that he is now a Civil Servant and not a POST Newspaper Editor. As such he must use sober and non confrontational language.Malupenga is paid from taxes part of which St.Michael pays. Why use words like Government does not need St.Michael when he could have used more sober language.malupenga is not Givernment but a mere appointed employee who could not have qualified for the job of PS if it was advertised considering his poor qualifications.

    • Thank u Dick so you also know that malupenga is not a qualified fellow. That guy failed at grade 12 at Kantashi secondary school in mufulira and only passed with 7s in 5 subjects. He then did a night school certificate in journalism and became pompas after getting married to a high court/supreme court interpreter. He is a fake Jehovah’s witness and has stopped going to church because of politics. You sitting on a time bomb my dear.

  17. pin pointing does not build ba malupenga as a leader try to use adminstative language to address some these issues not direct confrontation build maiko he is also a leader in his own capacity as chairperson MAS HE GAVE A REASON FOR NOT ATTENDING THE EVENT

    • They were trained by Fred to use corrosive language when dealing with politicians. Now they are in politics and they are using the same language on citizens. Once a puppet always a puppet.

  18. Malupenga from the PROPAGANDA POST…whoever oppeses them is either bitter or frustrated!!!!!! Just that God you got a job out of your propaganda newspaper. Your time will come soon.

  19. Malupenga do not think like you are still at the post.Anyway you have to enjoy each and every minute in that office because your boss might disappoint anytime of the day

  20. This what happens when a politician is elected into office and is overdosed with power…no no minister its the other way round you need Zulu more than he needs you. Please use language befitting your office and remember you are a public servant.

  21. Fontini ati” short notice” ,go back to school even in the corporate world we have meetings at short notice.you and your wife must stop smoking weed.

    • Iwe swine what’s wrong with smoking herb? If this ******* minister should have sent a helicopter from plot 1 to pick up ba Maiko how was he going to leap frog morning traffic.

    • My family and I will be expecting you and your family for dinner. Please don’t be late. You know the address: 6446 Jambo Dr., Kitwe. See you in 15 minutes.

  22. This Maiko Zulu was even supporting people who wore the pirated FAZ jersey to AFCON last year when Kapumpa attacked a journalist dressed in a fake Zambian jersey. What does Malupenga want from him?

And this ka Malupenga is mute over the Freedom of Information Bill….pakwama chete monga sika iziba nkhani. Mtcheew!!!

    • Maiko wanted the regular Zambian to get a piece of the business pie given to the wife of one fat cat who was not even Zambian and not living in Zambia at the time. Correcting the corrupt practices in high places.

  23. Maiko knows his trade. I doubt whether Malupenga does. He is just some failed journalist from the failed Post now pretending to be a politician. Who ever prepared him for politics? Fred Mmembe? Another failed politician who hides in journalism?

  24. Some Zambians never cease to amaze me. Mr Malupenga stated that the ministry doesn’t need Michael but Michael needs the ministry. In other words he is saying the ministry doesn’t need people. He is forgetting its the people who put them in power. What kind of government is this?

    • Can a true politician say such stoopid things? These unelected politicians tend to think people should serve the govt. Its the govt that serves its people.

  25. Nothing can justify such an angry statement about a citizen who has done nothing wong? Malupenga must be made to apologise for such insults, does he know who is paying him to keep his job?

  26. now malupenga who are you to be insulting mukwasu?!!atase iwe ul be a non-entity come 2016 *hope*hope*hope* but aa maiko will always be a legend elo language ba minister..ati this rastafarian mxxxm mukazi dzibako ku kamba..ulemu please..that office is too big for such pettiness ..kupusa bati!!

  27. To begin with there is no need to have a breakfast function welcoming a machine. That money could be better chanelled towards the poor who live on Pamela day in and out.

  28. What I want to know is how much real protection or value this hologram will provide, piracy is so easy with wide use of computers all one needs s to rip a CD/DVD to his/her PC, the what will you have achieved? Form what I gather ZAM wasn’t even consulted! What is happening to governance here? If you want to help someone, shut up and listen.

  29. maiko has a phobia,he wants to come out more of a politician forgetting he is a president
of all musicians, what short notice, you should have sent a representative knowing you were busy smoking weed!

  30. Maiko, should have respectively responded to the short notice. If it was a phone call to state where he was at the time and why he was not able to make it at that short notice e.g traffic because it was Government which invited him through the PS. Not what I heard from him on ZNBC News that the Government wanted him to fly from Kabwata to Pamodzi Hotel. Lets have respect for authority then the country will be in order.

  31. @Bwale Mwape your are very right my guy, malupenga got that job as a reward for insulting former president Rupia Bwezani Banda in the press day in and out, what can he tell us? one day he will be out of that office and he will dance to his own tune

  32. Maiko’s reason for not attending the meeting is invalid. He was reported on better tv saying that he could not ‘fly from his house to Pamodzi Hotel for the meeting’. My interpretation of that was that he may not have recieved the notice on time or else he felt that his presence was insignificant at that meeting, whatever the circumstances. But whatever, it’s his loss

  33. maikolo thinks zat he is a zambian BOB MARLEY,no you are jst like these street singing chaps,so stop this talk talk now hav you seen,we respect you jst bcoz of SISTA D.Other wise i dot no.

  34. i think malupenga is one of those people when in power want evryone to jump around when he says so, and when it dosent hapen, he takes it personal coz it feels to him like his authority is being challanged. he needs therapy
