Political stakeholders who took part in the SACCORD organized summit on political violence have agreed to back the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ)’s calls to have legal authority to enforce the electoral code of conduct.

And the stakeholders have promised to take practical measures to ensure that their cadres desist from engaging in political violence.

Speaking when she issued a communique on behalf of the participating political parties Alliance for Better Zambia Secretary General Mulenga Shula, said the summit had resolved to support ECZ in its quest to have legal authority to enforce the electoral code of conduct so as to facilitate for the prudent management of elections in the country.

She explained that the ECZ if entrusted with legal authority to enforce the code of conduct cases of electoral malpractice will be expeditiously disposed off.

Meanwhile political stakeholders resolved to “renounce political violence and all its trappings.”

Ms. Shula said the parties will talk to their structures instructing them to desist from engaging in acts of political violence.

The summit also resolved to uphold the demand for relevant legal reforms meant to protect security personnel against arbitrary politically motivated dismissals and transfers.

Other resolves included logical conclusion to constitutional and other legal reforms so as to address the loopholes in the legal causes of political violence, setting up of fast truck electoral courts to deal with electoral violence and the extension of the period for civic and voter education among others.

Political Parties present included the ruling PF (whose representative Bridget Atanga left the proceedings before signing on the resolution), the MMD, UPND, NAREP, FDD, ULP UNIP, ZDDM, ABZ among other political parties.

The two summit was organized by the Southern Centre for Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD), Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) and the Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID) to discuss the possible solutions to the continued electoral violence in the country.

    • Another on-line news outlet called “Zambia eye” has written a news article saying Winter Kabimba has been fired as Minister of Justice and also as SG of the Part by the King Cobra. Edgar takes over both portfolios and addition to being Defence Minister. This story is attributed to the Special Assistant for Press, George Chellah. Check it out.

    • It is true. He has been shown the door. Wynter should have known that it is foolish to start a fight when you are not able to take blows.

    • ECZ should be reformed definitely violent political parties need to be banned from participating in the election they are causing violence in. Voter apathy is not required that comes from violence because it infringes on people’s right to exercise their votes.

  2. PF’s, Bridget Atanga left the proceedings before signing on the resolution! We now get more than an inkling on PF’s plan for future electoral conduct. There has to be disciplinary actions on her and PF. We don’t want Zambia brought to its knees by violence.

WELL, IT MUST BE A LAUGH A MINUTE WORKING AT ZCID (Zambia Centre for Interparty ‘Dialogue!’ Please, what dialogue!!

  3. Donchi Kubeba goes to Kabimba and thanks, time for PF to disappear. Tired of PF. Love everything going on in PF.

  5. I DONT LIKE THE CARTEL BUT the SAD thing/TRAGEDY is how we/our GRZ quickly wants to follow the rules on VAT refunds to the extent that the whole F/minister is writing to the President whilst on the other hand issues of tax evasion (KCM) making 500 billion usd per year and yet declaring losses was NOT taken up by the F/minister and his vice president. Glencore tax evasion exposee by the European Bank has gone quite. ABC did NOT find it FIT to write MCS about it. Instead these serious issues TAX EVASION ARE left to Action Aid’s Pamela Chisanga. Even eletricity tarriff increases to mines are resisted (taken to High court)THIS GIVING OF THE OTHER CHEEK FOR THE MINES TO SLAP IS REALLY DISGUSTING. WAS ABC & GS PUT IN OFFICE TO REPRESENT MINES/INVESTORS OR ZAMBIANS? BA PF MUITAYA MWEKA…

  6. Yes the cartel must pay back the DBZ loan and must not hold the President at ransom but this refunding of VAT to mining investors who are evading tax/false declaration of losses OUT TO BE ADDRESSED FULLY AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL! The tax they have evaded needs to be claimed from the VAT refunds PLUS Penalties. And those in govt who are siding with the mines/tax evaders ought to be fired too!

  7. Indeed good riddance of kamimbya. PF that’s the way the cookie scrambles, this party of shameless thieves, nicompoops and bootlickers fighting amongest themselves after looting our treasury, some have been injured in the process while some have disappeared from the scene and some are now living in fear. UPND the part of unbridled charisma is soon going to form government in the next presidential by elections. Let’s go HH let’s go, wapya basis. We told you mushota soon you will realise the truth.

  8. If it’s true Kabimba has been fired, good riddance already. It would be one giant step in averting civil war that Kabimba was busy fomenting with his violent panga wielding
    cadres.
