Labour Minister Fackson Shamenda says he acted professionally with regards the bribery allegations he made against a Dangote official.

Mr. Shamenda says he acted in a professional manner by confronting Dangote Cement Zambia to stop what they were doing.

Mr. Shamenda says those calling for his resignation and prosecution for failing to report the bribe offer to the Anti Corruption Commission within 24 hours should understand that it was up him to act in the manner he did.

He says it is shocking that some people do not believe that a public officer can reject a bribe offer.

Mr. Shamenda says how he decided to expose what happened between him and the Dangote official was entirely up to him.

Mr. Shamenda says he is not a corrupt public officer and he will always adhere to upholding integrity.

  1. Mr Shamenda, you’re missing the point here. It’s not about acting professionally or up to you to decide what to do. It’s all about obeying the law.
If the law says you have to report a bribery attempt within 24 hours, you’re not being asked to decide whether to act professionally or not, yours is just to go and report it.
In your case, you should be arrested and it should be up to the Judge to decide if he considers your mitigating circumstances worth considering.

    • Its amazing that the is no brains between the ears of that white head. And in a banana republic this is a minister. In a normal country he he supposed to be a security guard with that low level of thinking

    • Mpika college of agric closed and students in town begging for money for food and travel. Bring a by-election and you will see how PF will be voted in large numbers.

  2. mwebafyashi , twaumfwa. we believe you you denied to recieve a bribe from a manager for Dangote. we than pipo and leaders like you. Nomba, why ddnt you report the case to ACC immediately? why dd you have to go to dangote intead of the ACC or police for the crime. it is not up to you to act the way you want, its upto what the law wants you to do. do u get us?

    • Of course Mr Shamenda would resign if Zambia was a normal democracy and a population that knew its rights. Shaa.

    • Mr. Shamenda proffesionalism will come in if in the first place you told them to meet you at your office. You have an office.

Whats worrying is that you met them somewhere else, you talked maybe have lunch together, then you declined their offer. They told you to meet later and they came back with a slightly improved offer then you told them they are not serious. You gave them time to improve the offer and you probably warned them that if they dont improve you will report them.

They thought you where joking then you went to report them to the press. Bravo Bwana Shamenda

  3. Mr. Shamenda says those calling for his resignation and prosecution for failing to report the bribe offer to the Anti Corruption Commission within 24 hours should understand that it was up him to act in the manner he did.

The statement from Shamenda above is a wrong one. it is not upto him to decide but the law states and dictates to him to report. Therefore, it is only reasonable that he is put on his defense for this offense.

Shemenda, recall the comments which came on this matter, that you are wanting and seems you have decided to join a trade war, you have little understanding about.

  4. ACC can you please arrest that ***** and charge him for not reporting the crime within 24 hours, he is so dull and corrupt that he can not understand the law.

  5. Not according to you…….you *****. The alleged bribery should have been reported within 24 hrs according to the law. Professional behaviour has nothing to do with it. You could have accepted the bribe professionally.

  6. HON SHAMENDA MUST BE HONERABLE TO HIMSELF AND RESIGN MORRALY.WHY DIDNT HE REPORT THE ALLEGED CORRUPTION TO ACC WITHIN THE STIPULATED TIME OF 24 HRS.
JUST RESIGN BWANA TO SERVE YOUR NAME.

  7. this minister must be arrested without any delay.he thought by reporting the alleged corruption to the pastnewspaper will be enough.he wanted to make a name to himself as the hero of the pastnewspaper, no tefyo chaba.let him face the law to set an example to would be offenders.we dont want such elements in our country.

  8. The fact that Shamenda made a conscious decision (1) to go and meet the dangote officer secretly (2) in a hotel room (3) smacks of corruption. Shamenda had the mind of a corrup person. if your wife (1) agrees to meet a man (2) in a hotel room (3), it simple means she is a prostitute, even if she eventually refuses to have sex with the man. Shamenda and your kind, dont think zambians are stupid.

  9. One thing I ve noticed from this and from observing FTJ’s rule is that trade unionists are very dull and merely talkative and it is no wonder as there are from non managerial staff. This old fool will continue making noise like Masumba till he finds himself in jail

  10. Mr. Shamenda sir, I support you for being a great patriot . These guys who are against you for your brave act are just ashamed that now they will be feeling shy getting bribes. Well done sir and may God bless you. Amen.

  11. ….the act was entirely up to him..??’…No, it was entirely up to the law of the land. Everyone has a threshold/minimum he/she can be ‘bought’ with….if Dangote had offered him a 0.25% share of DIZ, we probably couldn’t have been talking about this topic now ….I still believe the ‘bundle’ was not jaw dropping as opposed to getting surprised that a public officer said no to corruption…

  12. …..this bribery attempt/saga did not start and end when he was shown a ‘bundle’, it started with the phone calls, those SMSs….for him to succumb to a secretly meeting with that gentleman at a private rendezvous instead of his office was the beginning of a corrupt practice……therefore I do not understand or agree with him when he says he said ‘no’ to corruption….

  13. ‘Bwana’ Minister, please refer to comment No 1. @ Rick Bobby? and reflect. Follow it up with the only honourable thing to do; and that is resign. If not, well remove the salutation of ‘Honourable’ in reference to you.

  14. this speaks volumes on need for minimum education requirement for president & ministers otherwise we are moving backwards!!!

  15. It is such ministers who are making things difficult HE Sata, because he is surrounded by such people who lack diplomacy and intelligence.

  16. Mr. Shamenda Zambia does not depend on you, It is you who depends on Zambia and consequently you need to act according to the laws of Zambia. You are supposed to be a labour minister who should know the laws of your employer. For you to say you have to act in the manner that you feel it is a shame. Zambia is not a banana republic yet, so act according to the requirements of your institutions. You cannot just be talking about what you did is the right thing, you are an employee of the Zambian Govt. which has laws that you must abide by. People are not surprised by your refusal of taking a bribe but by your inability to report the alleged bribe to the relevant body.

  17. UNZASU is gone to sleep just like Hikaumba’s ZCTU. This facking Shamende is one reason why Zambia is in mess. Now Kambwili is even telling those UNZA students to go to hail if they think he can loose his Roan seat,
This is the Zambia of monkeys everyone wanted. So keep going guys.
