Lusaka man kills Chinese employer

Share

A CHINESE national was yesterday killed when one of his employees struck him on the forehead with a pistol butt.

Police said the suspected killer, who used his employer’s pistol, was on the run and police were looking for him.

The Chinese, who owned a company located on Lumumba Road in Lusaka, was killed after a fracas with his employee over the salary increment.

Lusaka Province police chief, Greenwell Ng’uni said the employer, whom he just referred to as a foreign national, was killed at the company premises in the morning.

Mr Ng’uni said the alleged killer would soon be apprehended because the police managed to trace some of his workmates.

Sources said the worker wanted a salary increment but the Chinese man pulled his pistol with which he allegedly threatened to shoot the employee.

The worker, however, struggled and overpowered the Chinese and managed to get the gun from him.

The angry worker then hit the employer on his forehead, instantly killing him.
The man ran away before the police were called

  1. Ala why did this chonchilis pull out a gun over a salary increment request. The brother was just trying to protect himself. They call it self-defence. This case is WASHAOUT!!!!!!!!!! You can have somebody pointing a gun at you and you just smile and let him kill you. Case dismissed your honour.

  2. This employer is a weak soldier. He shouldnt have pulled out a gun because this could have gone either way. Please call spade a spade in this matter.

  3. May his Soul rest in peace. Nomba is it the way to refuse to increase salaries? Are the workers prisoners? Are we backmin the slavery days? So many quetions……………..Ba MMD plaese dont allow this mad who is accused of murder be in humanly treated over this issue. Surely he is very vunerable!!!!!!

  4. Yes your Highness…iam high but my conclusion is this case is watchout case not just in the name of self defence but also as a lessons to would be victims….don´t pull out your gun or pistol over salary increaments

  5. At no time have we armed Managers in the work places. Protection of managers is to be provided by security employees trained to handle matters pertaining to security of all workers. In short it is illegal to posses a firearm without a license. The police MUST come out with a notice to all Zambians and Foreigners bearing firearms illegally that they will be prosecuted should they be found or reported. On this one there MUST be zero tolerance.

  6. Please bakapokola dont arrest this man he was just trying to defend himself, imagine if the chinese man had shot him.

  7. Pull the triger and kill the n***ger because he is a n**gro! Ratatatatatat thats the way it is. It is a terrible situation but this chinese man shouldn’t have produced a gun in the first place.

  8. Why should my comment be moderated and yet it is illegal in Zambia to carry a firearm without a license? The law is clear, hence those not following it must be prosecuted. For as long as we don’t abide by the law, people will continue to ignore ordinances. This is not what we want.

  9. #3 TRUE PF CADRE
I agree with you, but the problem is the chinaman was over-powered and the gun grabbed from him hence the possibility of murder charges. One the other hand it’s good a warning has been sounded to foreigners ( that includes RB) not push us to far because we might just decide to sort issues out in an uncivilised manner. Good luck to bro. on the run, try DRC in particular Kisangani, no trace.

  10. Chinese and Indians have been given a feeling that they are whites. Zambians or Africans look at these people as whites. They feel they are a superior being. This is wrong. They always ill-treat their workers. They are more racist than the whites from developed countries. Especially the chinese. Tuma racists. So, I feel the police should, just in case they arrest the killer, consider the workers’ reasons seriously and infact, examine the ill- treatment of workers by chinese and indians in their firms. Just because they are investors it does not mean that they should not respect the locals. They’ll be killing them.

  11. The Employer is dead, can they quickly find a replacement. Life must continue and just as the dead Employer’s family will receive pension benefits on behalf the deceased so it must be with the victor, his family must collect his benefits on his behalf. Let the victor be declared not found and forever missing. Fair.

  12. #12, your reasoning is way of the mark. The Chinese wanted to threatened the man or he could have killed him as well. The man was acting in self defence. He went to ask for an increase and the chinese would have used alot of diplomacy to resolve the issue. Afterall he is the employer, not resorting to the use of the gun to cower the dude. Well done dude!

  13. John Doe even if the employer was white it is wrong. Zambians should get rid of the mentality of thinkning that anyone who is not balck is superior. We should be comfortable in our own skin. Instead we hate on each other but bow down to non-black people. Pathetic. We should be proud!

  14. I like facts. I like the law. The two are different. Fact – It was wrong for the employer to point a gun at the employee… feeling afraid and need to defend himself. Law – use of proportional force when your life in imminentnet danger is allowed by law, but with special considerations. According to story above, the emplyee had overpowered the employer and had a pistol. He should have considered other alternative means of making him putting himslef right…calling for help. In this case, the force he used was exccessive resulting into murder, reduced to manslaughter if there are any mitigatory issues to consider.

  15. That was a gud move guys, keep it up. Nama chinese baletubelesha muchalo chesu, ata. That was self defence, bakapokola mubefye bwino.

  16. Its to bad that things happended that way.Nevertheless it was for the chinese man to get a gun in a salary negociations. He should have brought in a gun and start promising to kill someone. The chinese man must have promised for a salary increament. Now to the remaining chinese investor please watchout treat zambian employee with a fairly salary and learn to dilogue with your employees faithfully and dearly. The Zambian was difending him self.

  17. Since when did employers have the right to carry firearms in a place of work? It is almost certain that the dead man was going to pull the trigger on the employee. Chinese and Asians are known to exploit and treat Zambians like slaves. It is not an offence to demand a salary increase. Like other bloggers have said, the man acted in self defence and had no intention to kill, that’s why he didn’t pull the trigger. No doubt it is sad that someone lost his life.

  18. Atleast I’vwe something to laugh at this morning. WASHAOUT!! Case dismissed. Cho cho Li’s they think this is there country, bravo to our gallant colleague who overpowered the Chocholi.

  19. This is the mentality of Chinese traders. Go to Kamwala they behave same way, they like threatening employees by pulling out pistols sometimes by resorting to Karate. Its unfortunate a life has been lost, whether its for a foreigner or not. Not too long ago the Deputy Labour MInistor Hon. Simon Kachimba was on TV advising employers from resorting to beating or threatenibg employees with violence as it leads to violence. That was self defence in a way. What could have happened if the poor worker did not react fast in self defence. Let those in authority sort out this matter in a very fair and firm manner. They look at mitigating factors.

  20. This is a straight forward case! if the guy had a scuffle wth this employer his over the gun it means his life was endangered so he had a right to defend himself.
And Who gave this same employer a right to carry a gun at his place of work? And how does he explain pulling a gun on workers just for asking for a pay rise? He got what he asked for.
These people should learn to respect the locals. Good riddance!
By the way, its time the government got tough on labour laws so as to protect locals from exploitation.

  21. THIS IS A VERY INTERESTING CASE FROM A LEGAL PERSPECTIVE. THE EMPLOYEE CONFRONTS THE BOSS OVER WHAT IS DUE TO HIM, HE HAS THE HUMAN RIGHT TO CLAIM WHAT IS DUE TO HIM AND NOT TO BE TREATED AS A SLAVE. THE BOSS PULLS A GUN TO THREATEN HIM AND CAN BE CHARGED WITH THREATENING VIOLENCE WHETHER THE EMPLOYOR DIED OR NOT. THE EMPLOYEE BECOMES SCARED, ADVANCES, TAKES A RISK AND MANHANDLES A CHINESES, IN THE PROCESS, THE CHINESE DIES, (MANSLUGHTER) BEKONS, MUDDER UNLIKELY, WASHOUT CAN STILL BE A POSSIBILITY WITH A LAWYER. BUT CASES INVOLVING BLACK AND WHITE, BLACKS ARE ALWAYS IN THE LOSING SIDE.

  22. Ask about the increament itself. May be it was only K50,000.00 more he was asking for and this Chinese guy produced a gun. What was the intension for producing a gun? A gun is not something to play with. Wthatever was the reason for producing a gun this man aimed at killing the employee. Kill the killer before he kills you. That Zambian together with his family should start dancing that he is still alive otherwise he would have been a dead man by now. Police look for this man and when you find him take him to his family to rejoice.

  23. the zambian man should have a fair trial, but by the way things are being run. he is going to be crucified. he has just killed the so much loved chinese infester. i want to see what RB is going to do about this. this should be a lesson for him to put in place regulations, these chinese guys can nt just be pulling pistols at zambians. was the weapon registered?

  24. This is self defence….
These guys can not continue ruling us in our country,,, i am in Rusia and we have no voice here….
So i dont expect any foreigner to come to Zambia and start threatening to shoot me…
    WELL DONE YOUNG MAN….
    KEEP IT UP…
as for police ,they should not arrest this young zambian…
they should pretend they didnt find him….
Once more WELL DONE YOUNG MAN…
    I AM BEHIND YOU..

  25. Sorry for the employee that it ended up that way. This should be a lesson to RB he is busy inviting Chanise investors here and allowing them to move with Fire arms. Want are we go to in this mother Zambia Ponga what do you say

  26. Mwandi, iliko bad story. The Chocholi thought he was clever by producing a firearm and you know ku Zambia people are scared of guns but instead the story went the other way round. I can’t good for the guy who died but I wish his collegues should learn to treat people well or else they will all go back to China in Cargo.

  27. the guy must get a prize for that coz utu toma chocholi tuliko bad, not long aga a Zambian employee was beaten in Ndola for restin durin work. Luckly this yellow guy got what’s due to him let it be a lesson

  28. The Chinaman’s reaction to the employee’s request is a reflection of how these Chinese look at us BLACK PEOPLE

  29. The fact is if this choncoli killed our brother nothing would have been done. For goodness sake what`s wrong with asking for an increament? Sad he is dead but leason learnt for all the others. Insala ngayacila nemfuti ilatuna.

  30. The fact is if this c h o n c o l i killed our brother nothing would have been done. For goodness sake what`s wrong with asking for an increament? Sad he is dead but leason learnt for all the others. Insala ngayacila nemfuti ilatuna.

  31. # 13 your comment worries me and I’m trying to figure out the regard in which you hold white people. It seems to me that you strongly believe that whites have the right to abuse blacks and that the Indians and Chinese should not categorise themselves as white. Az a Zambian, do you consider yourself as being independent? Clearly you need to re-think your position with regards to your sovereignty

  32. Lesson learnt. Hope his friends learn from him. When one is angry the last thing you want to do is threaten him with a gun. I bet our brother turned into the incredible hulk!

  33. John Phiri is the new Master after Killing Bruce Lee, watch next weeks episode of Enter the Dragon 3, John Phiri will be up against Jet Lee.

  34. #37 Shing`nga Indians and Chinese are not whites. Anyway even the black (mixed) race basungu ku Zambia. But, hey! This is not the issue. The issue is the bravery of our brother. I bet alinitolo umulumendo! Yes he should try crossing the border on the northern side. Stay there for 6 months and come back as Kabongo Musonda na green passport.

  35. This is a sad story. Hope that the guy gets a fair trial. Seems to me like it was self-defence. I realise this is a sensitive issue in Zed but we must try not to racialise the incident. The fact that the employer was Chinese should not colour our judgement. There are also many Zambian employers who treat workers badly in Zed.

  36. Kalembo Kanga Yes but not pulling out a gun because a simple man about 2m (lol) taller than you has asked for an increament! I know people have lost lives in freaky situations or pranks but this beats them all. The chocho thought by pulling out a gun he was going to scare our brother away and quickly. He was wrong!

  37. These Chinese are distroying our Country. They have no respect for people nor the environment. and their work and products which they bring hear is sub standard. Now they think they can threaten with a gun. that’s going too far. That was self defence. Let it be a lesson to other foreigners

  38. I think there is still a lot more to this story which we have not been told……………. mmmmm probably so!

  39. Zamtel buyers will come with Bazookas. these are investors you have so much have faith in.Pulling guns over a salary increment , he would have just killed him by shooting the bustard than hitting him with the butt.
That body should be deported immediately and charged with attempted murder. They think Zambia is a ZOO….Ubwipi

  40. zambians are very friendly people as known world wide but that does not mean other nationals like chinese should take us for granted, l praise the brave man who has should us what is likely to happen when taken for a free ride….bravo zed, bravo

  41. Sad that a soul has been lost. My fellow Chinaman is to blame for carrying a gun to work. Grz is to blame too in allowing my fellow chinamen to live above the law and mistreat the locals. The black man acted inselfdefence. Case closed. Had the law been followed and the black people been respected , my fellow country china man would have been alive today. my condolence to his family

  42. Magic roundabout i dont get the point you are trying to make. All I said was that the issue should be looked at objectively and not in a racially biased way. A man has lost his life after all and the fact that that person is Chinese should not colour our judgement. As I said it seems to be self defence to me. Also, just because the person was Chinese does not necessarily mean that he was shorter than the Zambian. That is just racial stereotyping that has no basis in reality. There are some Zambians who are very short – our former President Chiluba being a famous example as well as many Chinese who are over 6ft tall.

  43. #13 John Doe, so what you mean is “white ” people are superior? FYI we are all created equal and I am happy with the “chinese, indian, white, black…” friends I have because to me they are practicarly family and their appearance or genetic makeup doesn’t define them. People should stop being small minded. If you have nothing constructive to say it’s best to just keep quiet. Another thing people please have respect for your leader, yes quite alright he may not be your choice of a leader but he has still been appointed by God and God requires us to honour him…you reap what you sow, the Lord also says to respect your “elders”….and it’s also something thats in our culture…and then when your life is full of strife you wonder

  44. Kalembo look at the (lol) in brackets and you will see the irony in my post. By the way there is no man who could be that tall. Yes a life is lost but do you think that is a reason for pulling out a gun? Did you know there are laws governing the use of a fire arm whether licensed or not? Yeah just pull a gun out he will be on his bike! I bet he met his match.

  45. #40 no, I don’t think they are superior myself, all of them (white, indian, chinese). But that is the perception of people usually. And Indians and chinese in zambia, where poeple are black, believe they are whites to the zambians. And they know that a white person in a country like zambia niba boss, bwana, muzungu …, I hope you get what I mean. I can assure you that Indians and chinese are different in europe, just because they don’t feel that superiority.

  46. I really don’t understad why in Zambia we worship these foreigners, the dude wanted to kill using the same pistol, unfortunately he ended up being killed.Iam sure if he(chiness guy) is the one who killed,no arrest was going to be made. This is the second time this is happening,it happend in the copperbelt were zambian emplyees were shot by their chiness employer, and no arrest was made, now that the one involved in the shooting is a zambia even the Lusaka police chief has come out.Too bad.

  47. As much as i sympathise with the China mans family, he brought this upon himself. Live by the sword, die by the sword. For him to pull out a Gun over a discussion on Salaries just goes to show a total lack of respect, as if he is dealing with animals who only understand force. This is obviously a case of manslaughter and not murder. For it to be murder, the act must have been Pre meditated – i.e pre planned. It obviously was not. Even as a crime of passion, it is clear the Zambian had no intention of killing, otherwise he would have fired the Gun. If i was his lawyer he would walk to freedom easily. I doubt that the China mans gun was even licenced.

  48. Magicroundabout, What is it about my post that you do not understand? I will repeat – it seems to me that the Zambian was acting in self defence but the case should be looked at on its own merit. The fact that it involves a Chinese employer and a Zambian worker should not colour our judgement. We still dont know the full story behind the incident. As to your statement that nobody can be 6 ft tall or over ,all I can say is that you are perhaps ignorant of imperial height measures as millions of men and women in the world are that tall.

  49. Got to go people. I hope our brother is not caught and even if, I hope we see justice prevail. This is not a case I would send one to jail for. Alifulwa umulumendo and even if he has to go in, 2 years suspended should be more than enough. The chocho man`s body has to be charged with attempted murder like some bloggers have said! When you get your fire arm out, your intention is to kill.

  50. How does one pull a gun when discussing a salary increment. The Chinese man brought trouble on himself and the employee really acted in self defence. That is why I have told you before – these china people are infesters and NOT investors. They here to plunder resources using us as cheap labour. But that is not to say I will NOT trade with China when I become President – do you understand. We cant do without them eh!!

  51. starling tafwa lol,….

this is way too interesting. they should not even think about locking him up. Safety kulisunga wemwine. this guy was just trying to defend himself from the chinese.

  52. #64 Kalembo I hate people who dash to unsulting or degrading others blogs. This happens when one is out of their depth and can argue sensibly. You can not tell me you are thick (in english please) enough not to see I said a man 2m taller we muntu iwe! If Choncho man was 1.5m tall then our brother is 3.5m! The reason I put (lol). Tell me you do not know what it means. Fyakosa? As for the details, yes we are just going by what the article says and making assumptions/conclusions. What`s your argument?

  53. John Doe, I understand what you are saying , I grow up with that mentality ( I am half black and white), until I left Zambia and reality set in, when I lived in London. In London , I was tried like the house boy. that is why, I have respect for all those labours that go hungry now and the poor families.

  54. #64 Kalembo I hate people who dash to insulting or degrading others on blogs. This happens when one is out of their depth and can not argue sensibly. What`s your arguement?

  55. The growing numbers of the Chinese in Zambia must be watched. I am sure many of you bloggers know the famous story of ‘ The Camel and his master’. It is serious.

  56. Kalembo this is what I said. .
    Magicroundabout says:
August 4, 2009 at 1:04 pmKalembo Kanga Yes but not pulling out a gun because a simple man about 2m (lol) taller than you has asked for an increament! I know people have lost lives in freaky situations or pranks but this beats them all. The chocho thought by pulling out a gun he was going to scare our brother away and quickly. He was wrong!

  57. Very interesting,

China man pulls out an arm and threatens to shoot at the worker, Acting in defence the fellow without an aim of killing the employer over powers him and confisticates the weapon. I do not think the gentleman intented to kill becoz if he meant so he could have pulled the trigger and planted 2,3,4 pieces of copper in the China Man’s head.

    I UNRESERVEDLY ACQUIT the employee.

  58. I am ashamed as a Zambian that one incident involving a Chinese person has resulted in a torrent of insults against all Chinese.I don’t know what you would have said, if the dead person was a Zambian. Actually the Chinese have been good to us as Zambia. They built the railway to Dar when the so much praised whites all refused to build it and only wanted us to depend on South Africa and Rhodesia. They have made large investments in Zambia and all we do is insult them. Zambian workers have trade unions and labour commisioners to represent them. The incident is an unfortunate accident invoving loss of human life. The Chinese employer was foolish but so are many Zambians. I tell you Sata has no ideas and, has never had any ideas. He wouldn’t kick out the Chinese either if he came to…

  59. That was a clear case of self defense! this guy should not even be on the run. these nchwi have gone too far. i don’t think he even had a gun permit. This is the kind of killing i would support.

  60. Good show worker, good show!Lets reflect that on a national level where when we protest against low salaries our employer(govt) comes out armed(in form of police)………a bit the same aint it?

  61. This was a clear case of misjudgement on the part of the Chinaman. He did not realise that Africans are physically strong pipo. When they mean to charge there is nothing that can stop them. Not even the force of a BULLET. History is still fresh, Rhodesia and Mighty South Africa tried to kill but nothing stopped the BLACK FROM attaining independence. We need investors but let us live and work in miutaul respect. We are not going to allow these guys to push and mistreat us like strangers in our own country. Labour Ministry what are your comments?

  62. it is not the option to threaten any worker by use of any FORCE. nowhere in the World. the one who pulled the gun first was going to shoot. and the report would have changed on the poor Zambian black. we dont want this behaviour in Zambia at all. Ministry of Labour must educate the people on the rights at work. this case must be dealt with very seriously to who started first? and what form of force did he use? and how do you expect the worker to defend in such a situation? interesting and bad that there was loose of Soul.

  63. Excellent reaction by the brother! This is pure self-defence. You see, the brother over-powered the China-man who had pulled a gun on him ready to shoot. The brother had no intention whatsoever of killing the China-man. All he intended to do was to overpower him, retrieve the gun and incapacitate the china-man so the brother could have time to get away without being shot at in the back with a second gun. Questions to consider are: supposing the china-man had a second gun (most likely) and the brother did not incapacitate him what could have happened? And in the event that the china-man had managed to overpower the brother and retrieved the gun what could have been the scenerio? The issue at hand here is, in an attempt to protect his life and others the brother knocked cold china-man period

  64. kwasala ine ku payako kamozi, guys dont finish them leave some for some of us.. i also feel like life without killing killing a pingchong who doesnt want to improve the lives of his workers is incomplet.

    NOT GUITY ITS SELF DEFENCE!!!!!!!!!

  65. These chinese employers walk strapped? I thought the law was clear on who should be strapped all the time, and that excludes ordinary people like ‘chinese employers’. It’s high time every one employed by chinese employers went strapped.

  66. Have you ever had a gun pointed at you by someone who wants to kill you? You can’t explain the feeling when you realize – ‘so this is the way I die’. You don’t have time to think. Self preservation instincts can make a man run thru a wall. Ask him later why he ran thru a wall, he’ll tell you all hell broke loose, I don’t know what I was doing. He could even s.h.i.t. in his pants in the process. How could he know the chinese man’s head was made out eggshells.

  67. ” Sources said the worker wanted a salary increment but the Chinese man pulled his pistol with which he allegedly threatened to shoot the employee.

The worker, however, struggled and overpowered the Chinese and managed to get the gun from him. ”
Can you say: ‘Your Kung Fu is no good’?

I would also call it selfdefense. Just because someone is a worker, doesn’t mean they are automatically in the wrong.

  68. We will donate money for the employee to get a very good defenc(s)e criminal lawyer for man slaughter if captured because the employee could have been killed by his employer had he not fought hard. LT keep us posted.

  69. I cannot believe someone says…it is because the chinese and Indians feel that they are whites..Meaning whites are allowed to pull guns on defenseless workers. Please lets rid ourselves of this generation to generation inferiority complex. It needs to stop!

  70. #12 , This guy fought and killed in self defence , the most he can get is man-slaughter not murder. Muchocholi shouldnt have produced a gun in the first place. choipa chisata mwine. he got what he asked for and its a lesson to other employers (especially foreign ones who think they have bought or country).Guys,
Kill them if they produce guns.

  71. Umu chochioli ba mu killer, that will send a stronger signal to would be offender. You can never tame a human being. RIP

  72. Batubepafye ati bamaka muma filimu. Chinaman baipaya. You see, a gun is not something to play around with. I can only assume that when the Chinaman heard the bang on his forehead he thought the trigger had been pulled and just decided to give way instantly. Good lesson to guys who think and believe that the colour of their skin is everything.

  73. Try me ….I will defend myself. Self defence is allowed every where in the world. Its a lesson to other employers and Govnt that Zambians are not there to be abused only. Give them good salaries.
