President Banda to open Chambeshi smelter

President Rupiah Banda has arrived on the Copper belt to officially open the Chambishi Copper Smelter which is expected to employ over 600 Zambians.

The Zambia Air force Plane carrying the President touched down at Kalulushi South Down Airport at exactly 09:20 hours.

The President was accompanied by Acting Minister of Mines and Mineral Development Peter Daka, Energy Minister Kenneth Konga, his special assistant for Press and Public Relations Dickson Jere and other senior Government Officials.

On hand to receive the President was Copperbelt Minister Mwansa Mbulakulima his Permanent Secretary Villie Lombanya, Movement for Multi Party Democracy Copper belt (MMD) Provincial Chairman Joseph Chilabwe and all copper belt based District Commissioners.

The President immediately proceeded to Chambeshi to officially open the China Nonferrous Metal Mining Group Limited, Smelter which has the capacity to produce 150 000 copper blister per year

Mr. Banda will return to Lusaka immediately after the official opening of the Smelter.

  1. Good news for employment creation. I wonder how much miners get these days.

    When is the Chambishi cobalt plant opening. Would anyone know?

  2. rubbish as long as it is for chinese, local pipo will be getting K300,000 per month what a shame. indians and chinese have taken over our country.

  3. BREAKING NEWS: President Rupiah Banda has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize! This is in recognition of his many many trips in and outside Zambia on which he makes peace for himself. Receiving the Prize, RB said he was humbled and that he will intensify his Trips, hoping to win The Marcopolo Prize next year! Today he travels to Copperbelt. Before travelling to Copperbelt, RB was in Swaziland, USA, Cuba, and Kasama. On 18th Nov he hopes to be in Solwezi.

  4. Why doesn’t this RB Pass through Kitwe is it a No Go Area. He is always Flying to Chingola to Ndola and not Kitwe. The late could have flown to Ndola and Connect Using Road to Chambeshi. This guy ever since he become President he has never been to Kitwe. The Flying you like might end you in the sky and never Come down Maybe you have stated some Constructions of a State House you and Kafupi are not to be Trusted.
