And Government acknowledges that culture exchange programmes between countries can help to improve and accelerate national development.

Education Minister Dora Siliya pointed out that Zambia can benefit a lot from China noting that the Chinese government has a lot to teach the world in terms of culture and business ventures.

Ms Siliya was speaking in Lusaka today when she officially opened the Chinese International School in Zambia.

  1. from colonial british education which has been revised since independence to neo-colonial Chinese education which may not be tailored to the development system of our country. and we talk about independence, and yet our children are brainwashed and conditioned on a daily basis by the foreign education system.

  2. Who would wna to send their kids to a Chinese school. Twa amba nokwisula amasukulu utu tu mambala ka. Awe nachiwama pa zed!

  3. First they allow the IMF/World Bank to tell them to close schools to save costs. Then they get the Chinese to open up schools. Does neoliberalism make any sense at all?

  4. #5, 7 at time you should learn to appreciate. ti vabshe bolshoi talakan i ni chio ni panimae pro zhyni. You mean you can compare the quality of education to the Chinese one.

  5. Cry my beloved country. What are the Chinese going to teach our kids, the glory of Mao? First they sold our companies, land, and now they are selling our education. I am sorry, but how is this going to benefit Zambia?

  6. Chinese nationals in Zambia are after educating their childrem-period. The Chinese type of education is very different from the Zambian one or British type. Zambian kids who enroll with this school will end up in Chinese Universities and no where else.
Jobs, companies, oads stadiums, and now schools -Chinese!!! Mmmm

  7. Its a great development.
The people of Zambia have been very king to Chinese.
I hope that they (Chinese) continue to help us develop this nation.
LT Bloggers, let us learn to appreciate what they have done for us.

  8. ?????????? ???????dea??????????????i? ????????????Zambians.?????????multicultral?????? ?????????????????????? ????????????eductional???
in other words Come on guys lets appreciate the Chinese. I dont think its a bad i dea, i for one i would allow even more Chinese in the country. And let them to multiply in numbers and be Zambians. So that we can even be more multicultral and more development. China is better than the way our country is let them contribute what they have. They have a better eductional system than ours.

  9. A Chinese school in Zambia. Wow. This just confirms that China will be settling it’s overpopulated villages in Zambia. So who will attend this Chinese school. Where will they apply the Chinese language learnt? bla bla bla bla

  10. i am concerned with the government owned press’s style of reporting news based only on what some official said about an issue. the ZANIS reporting on ‘chinese school’ leaves much to be desired. where if in lusaka will the school be? what programmes will it offer? primary, o’level, a’level or other? what is the very concept of a chinese school? chinese curriculum, lessons in chinese maybe? is it government/private? any hope of scholarships for poor kids?if dora siliya did not say then the reporter wont find out! please do your job,we need to know. otherwise my take on the school is that its coming increases the educational options available to our people and it should be encouraged. the idea of world universities available in other countries provides opportunities for kids from all…

  11. China is the new colonial master!Mandarin chinese is the worlds most spoken language, over 1.3bln people speak it!we need China, the US borrows US$3.0bln a day from China,China is the world’s largest producer of goods, largest supplier of goods,it has an army of over 10million men,now tell me Ba Zambia are we going to tell them to go! we still owe them for TAZARA mwa laba bane,Amnesia is good,so we shall learn Chinese,we shall also learn Confucious,we will accept 15mln more chinese to occupy vast empty land,we shall breed super humans,HA!HA!HA!

  12. Good idea for the Chinese to come up with a school in Zambia………… but look at this. This is a Zambian language after five years!

“CHIN NGU MFWA, MAYI NEM. SPIKO HIYE IN JAMBYA. AYI KAM HIYE EDYUKET jAMBYAN PIPO IN CHAINA LANGWEJI. MAYI TELEFON: JIRO NAINA CHEBEN NAINA FOWA FAIVA JIRO JIRO WA WA”.

May be it saves time by avoiding long sentences. Aren’t they who say “ONE PICTURE SAVES A THOUSAND WORDS”?

  13. #17 Lubs. Spot on. I have always said Zambian journalist anbd reporters are crap. they dont think. They just regurgitate what someone is saying without thinking.

Chinese expatriates no doubt want their kids to have Chinese education just like the British and European expatriates. I am not surprised that they have opened a school.

By 2050 China will be the most powerful nation on earth, surpassing USA and Europe. So dont trash them right now. Let’s just find a way of working with them that ensures that Zambia profits from Chinese links. It’s upto our govt leaders to do this.

  14. #23 Zprofits from what? Is it not Norway and other countries that subsidise for Zambia’s health and education system? Instead of talkinig about how China will surpass all countries…Please have pride in Zambia and talk about how ZAMBIA will be the best country in the world. Typical inferority complex mixed with dependency theory….China thinks of China first. Zambia should think of its own country. God made Chineese people with brains BUT guess what he also made Zambians with brains. Selling everything to China is not what God made Zambia for. All countries have potential and equal ability to do well. If you have wise leaders who have confidence in their own people.

  15. #24 Mind typo errors-Every country has a different social, political, economic and culture structure. Zambia is different from other countries and needs to find an economic plan that suits Zambia. For example, Look at the history of the Brazilian economy and the method they used to grow their economy. Zambia has alot of land and resources ……there is no excuse for it to be a poor country.

  16. #26 That’s what schools are for. To eradicate poverty and empower the people through knowledge. Learning to behave and have manners is all part of the education that people receive. Being sarcastic and showing arrogance wont take us anywhere.

As for the article, I for one think that it is an opportunity for people who are interested in Chinese culture, traveling to China for business/pleasure to learn some Chinese beforehand. As for the teaching standards, I do not think it will be low since the Chinese intend to send their own kids there too.

Change is inevitable you either embrace it or arrogantly deny it.
