Katanga Governor, Moses Katumbi has warned Congolese National Police manning the Pedicle Road and Chembe bridge against victimizing Zambians.
Mr. Katumbi says any policeman who will victimize Zambians will be fired.
Mr. Katumbi said the completion of the Chembe bridge should not be used by officers as an opportunity to mistreat Zambians.
He said the completion of the bridge has generated a lot of interest from foreign nationals who are now using the Pedicle road and the Chembe bridge.
Mr. Katumbi was speaking when he adressed villagers at Mwenda on his way to the Chembe bridge.
And speaking earlier at Lubembe bridge on the Pedicle road, Mr. Katumbi said he will allow a 24 hours operation of the bridge.
Mr. Katumbi said it would be pointless to restrict the movement of people once the bridge is completed.
Meanwhile Mr. Katumbi has commended President Levy Mwanawasa for the initiative to construct the Chembe bridge.
He said he is happy that the bridge is nearing completion and is looking forward to working with the Zambian government in tarring of the Pedicle road.
Mr. Katumbi was accompanied by Luapula Province Minister, Chrispine Musosha, Copperbelt Province Minister, Mwansa Mbulakulima and Works and Supply Deputy Minister, Mundia Ndalamei.

Katumbi is a Zambian, just like Chiluba. Let us be temperate in our comments or we will offend ‘our own’. The man owned Chani fisheries and is indeed still on LPM’s wanted list. The problem is there are somany other ‘Zambians’ in that part of the country who are still doing ‘nabulafye’ and it will go on.

Katumbi’s father was a Jewish businessman who was domiciled in Belgium but spent a lot of time in Congo where he had businesses.His mother was a Lunda from Luapula and was directly related to Mwata Kazembe Munona Chinyanta. Moses Katumbi Like his elder brother Katebe Katoto sisters Louisa and Kapi were born and Brought up in the Congo and Belgium. Moses Katumbi was originaly known as Moise Rapheal Soriana. Before he moved to Kitwe he first emerged in Ndola where his elder brother Katebe Katoto had some businesess. He was owner of Soriano enterprises which was a supplier of Beans. In Kitwe his Congolese wife left him after he married Kabonde the daughter of former Ndola mayor Steven Mukuka

Katumbi’s no longer on the wanted list. He managed to cut a deal with the Task force and that’s why he freely comes to Zambia nowadays. He’s been cleared of he’s thieving.

Moise Katumbi is half Zambian. His father was a Greek/Belgian businessman who married Mwata Kazembe’s sister. In short Katumbi is a nephew to Mwata Kazembe and thats why he speaks good “bemba”.
Initially MK was on the wanted list because the LPM govet were out to get anyone who was perceived to be close to FTJ. However things backfired as the Congolese embraced this guy and made him governor as well. In fact just to show the kind of harm he could do to the Zambians, at one stage he stopped traffic going through the pedicle. After that LPM govt changed their tune ! Remember VJ lost his job because he blundered big time on the MK saga !
Before coming to Zambia, Katumbi Lived in Italy for a few years that is where he met up with another Jewish Italian named David Tokoph.Katumbi’s elder brother Katebe Katoto jointly owned an airline known as Sea Green which was a cargo airline. The airline was banned to fly to the USA and most European countries after it was discovered that it was involved in the transportation of drugs. Sea Green later emerged in Zambia as Aero Zambia with Tokoph as chairman and Katumbi later becoming vice chairman. Aero Zambia was involved in illicit transportation of Arms and Diamonds between Angola, Zambia, Eastern Congo and Eritrea. Airstrips in Mwansabombwe,Solwezi and Lilayi were used in Zambia.
BY Mwila who was then Defence Minister, Rajan MAHTANI ,Xavier Chungu , Paul steel who is Baldwin Nkumbula’s step brother and Titus Mpundu were strongly involved. Later there was a dispute between Katumbi and Mahtani(Finance Bank)after Katumbi tearfully appeared on TV claiming that Finace bank had released a trunck full of emeralds and diamonds entrusted to them by Katumbi to an unknown person. Titus Mpundu then delegated BY to mediate. It was later known that Mahtani had released the trunck to Savimbis Agent after Savimbi demanded it back after non receipt of the Arms promised in exchange for the stones. Katumbi and Mahtani later appeared on TV at BY’s rezidence saying they had reconciled.
Tokoph was blamed for the non delivery of the Arms and was forced to leave Zambia on trumped up charges after GOVT refused to renew Aero Zambia Licence and arrested him for having an extra pill of Diazapam above the limit. This also resulted in the shooting of Katumbi’s young brother Solomon Soriano in Ndola. When the Dos Santos Government in Angola got wind of this the threatened to invade Zambia and blamed the Zambian Government for complicity in the supply of Arms to Savimbi.

Most comments are so cheap and so short sighted. Come on, grow up. No wonder most African countries are very backward. Look forward the world is changing. “Efyo mulowela” because you like too much thinking of how to bring each other down. Zambia and Congo borders are more important to develop than waste time thinking of katumbi. Zambians realise that you have “million times” to gain by working in harmony with katumbi tha just waste time thinking of ways to fix him. Put katumbi in Chimbokaila, what will you all benefit. Learn one thing Zambia nad Congo will all benefit from the good relationship.
I agree with Chimampa, It is good to be realistic and look on both sides of the coin. We have more to gain than continue crying over trivial things. If Katumbi is willing to work with Zambia to develop the two sister countries we should also be open to welcome him. We only have be keep our eyes open. I would rather see Katumbi work with Zambia in good faith than see Zambia fighting Katumbi whjen we all know Zambia has no power to prolong such a fight. But remember Katumbi is also Zambian by descent and no one can take it away from him. He has same right as you and l to come and walk the streets of his mother land. But most important is to have him help Zambians crossing pedicle.
I think it is time to be realistic. If Zambia copperbelt and Kantanga region joined forces and with good planning, these regions can work miracles. Ordinary brains can see that. Zambia and Congo have a region with potential to develop into a major industrial region that can be easily be much in Africa. Foreigners wont tell you that because they fear such a powerful region. It is time Zambians and Congolese start crying to have Zambia-Congo development region start developing between these two countries.
Just a word of advice to Zambians. Reading through comments show me some people are cheap. Zambia is a wonderful country admired by many in Africa. I have lived in Zambia. I know Zambia. But if some people still have the old gradges between tribes, mostly a legacy from old parents, please the world has changed. Think of Zambia and live above trible alliance. To think tribal is to reverse your development to stone age. look at other countries, in just a blink of an eye tribal differences can create a war no one tribe can win. We love Zambia because it does not have two or three tribes. It has variety. Viva Zambians, viva one Zambia from KK.
zambia needs a leader who is going to unity the nation and take zambia to the level of china’s development by 2030 (its very much possible), someone with a clear vision for mother zambia. That person is no other than HH. The man is speaks unity and development for all zambians and knows thta hunger does not know a Tonga, Bemba, Chewa, Lunda, Kaonde, Lozi, Nyanja etc. Time is now that Zambians shall elect national leaders on merit and not on which region of the country they come from.

just a precision: Moïse Katumbi mother was from Yeke/Bemba descent. His father was NOT a Belgian, but Nissim Soriano, a Greek belonging to the Jewish community. Nothing to do with Leopold II.
