  1. It is very dis-heartening that non of our so called pros are really making a mark in thier respective clubs no wonder they are failling to perfrm when called upon to the national teams. Pull up your socks you pros!!

  2. Fellow Zambians this goes to show that we do not yet have the calibre of players that can bring honours. I tend to believe that our players do not have the attitude and memtality to make it big. They get carried away by small victories.

  3. Let’s give them time.Guys like Jacob and Collins have just moved to new clubs.Whiles i agree we don’t yet have a player to play in a top class team in Europe like Kalu did at PSV or Charlie at the then strong Anderlecht team of the 90’s.I believe very soon we will see one of the boys from U-23 and U-20 making it to a big team it’s just a matter of time.
We just need to nature these young boys the are so promising.Discipline is one area our players have lacked apart from Kalu and Charles who again a good examples in this area. Go ba Zambia.Go

  4. Groom young players for 2010, FAZ told
    By Sports Reporter

ACCLAIMED veteran soccer commentator, Dennis Liwewe has urged FAZ to groom junior national team players for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Liwewe said Zambia’s recent performance at the Under-20 World Cup in Canada coupled with the fourth place finish of the Under-23 at the All-Africa Games in Algeria was a clear indication of the abundant talent the country had at junior level.
Speaking on a Muvi TV programme, Eyeball to Eyeball, presented by Chellah Katwishi on Monday night, Liwewe said players from both junior Chipolopolo squads would have come of age by the time the global soccer showpiece would be held for the first time on African soil.
“If you take eight players from the Under-20 squad, another eight from the Under-23 and sieve a few that would still be playing at a higher level by that time… Then we can have a formidable side,” he said.
Liwewe said it would be unfair for Zambian soccer lovers to miss out on the World Cup in South Africa when the event has been brought closer to home and the local beautiful game is on an upswing.
He said football standards had gone down in the past few years and that both the old and young generation were again being reunited in celebrating the rebirth of the sport at all levels.
The veteran commentator who spoke throughout the interview using the same tone that shot him to fame in the commentary box, also called for the current FAZ executive to be retained in office in order to continue developing the same players.
He downplayed the current squabbling within FAZ, saying soccer was a second religion in Zambia, adding that the fights might only bring out a better product of the local game for the glory of the country.
The 71-year-old commentator who has quit the trade on doctor’s advice said he would return to the commentary box should Zambia make it to the World Cup finals in South Africa even if it meant doing so in the face of death, saying it would be a better way to die for him.
Liwewe also advised the current crop of players to play with the passion of those who donned the Zambian uniform before them and desist from engaging in negative vices that were a threat to their careers.

  5. Zambia in trouble. This is wht I have been questioning. Sichone and Sinkala are useless, they have struggled in Germany for over 7 years now. They are supposed to move on to bigger clubs and not division three clubs. In other African countries, say Nigeria, Cameroun, Cote d’voire and South Africa would not even look at such players at “division 3”. We in Zambia consider them to be Pros! What utter rubish! I concurr with bamudal ba Liwewe that the Non-performing FAZ should start grooming the Fwayo tembos, Mayukas, Mulenga etc as players for the future. Mbesum and ktongo have disappointed t the National level, they just tlk nd don’t deliver.

  6. It seems collins mbesuma will face stiff competition for a place at Bursaspor. Unlike what many may think this is actually a strong team. At the weekend they won away by 3 goals to one. One of their strikers by the name of Kaloglu scored a hatrick. The other strikers in the team are cameroon’s Herve Thum and Daniel Pancu of Romania.

  7. Our pros, and we call them a week before crucial matches even when they fail to deliver for their respective clubs in europe which are in divisoin one , two or three. Shame!. Lets treat soccer as a game not a religion. FAZ has contributed to the down fall of soccer standards in the country. We do not need that executive. Let’s put people who can deliver in office not the current FAZ. You can actually see that things have terribly gone wrong “recruitment of National Coach”

  8. WE ARE IN TROUBLE
According to reports in SA Benni Mccarthy will play against Zambia. SA are looking to field their strongest side to ensure they win the group. Benni was the second highest scorer in the premiership last season. Lets hope Faz call all the best players. I still think Edwin Phiri should be in the team. Delron Buckley from the Bundesliga in Germany is a dangerous right winger and Joseph Musonda may not contain him.

  9. #5 You are too harsh on these players. Yes in other countries they would not look at them but in Zambia that is all we have and remember we can not always do what other people are doing.

By the way Sinkala and Sichone are playing in the Bundesliga 2 which is an equivalent of the English championship league and by far better than the over-rated but fumbling South African Premier league whose champions are always masscared on the continent.

Lets support the team that will represent Zambia against the boys-boys (Bafana Bafana) and witness how boys will be separated frm real men.

My only worry now is our defence. Is it going to cope with the presence of McCarthy who has been recalled for this match.

  10. A look at the Zambian National Team of today will tell you that we do not have any extra ordinary players in this team. For any team to be strong you need 2 or 3 gifted players. In the 80’s we had Kalu and Charles, these too had special talent. As for now the players we have, have the same level, no one can lift the others. So until some emerge we have to depend on team work. We have just got to hope someone emerges

  11. Chips I agree with you entirely. If our young players do not make it big betweeen the ages of 17 to 25 then we might as well 4get about them.Honestly the guys in German have failed so is the bunch of “professionals” in other leagues. Our future lies in the 2 junior squads if only the young lads will not be destroyed by what has destroyed others.
We must go back to our foundations and concentrate on the under 12’s. Botswana is doing it’s homework correctly. That is the more reason they are no longer the whipping boys of Africa.FAZ must not be used as an office for opportunities to travel abroad on personal business trips. We need people with a heart to develop soccer. Honestly we do not deserve to qualify for the Ghana Africa Cup of Nations. We must not even get annoyed for failing. We simply do not have the calibre at that level to compete.
Our players also need to be told the value of playing soccer at a higher level. Ngabaishibikwafye mu Matero ninshi to them it’s heaven. Yaahhhhhhh

  12. Let Faz put money forward and buy everyone tickets. This is do or die. The bafana have called their most powerful team. We as Zambians will not accept another embarrassment. Faz will be the ones to blame if we fail to win their no excuses now.

  13. Here is bafana bafana squad

Goalkeepers: Rowen Fernandez (Arminia Bielefeld, Germany), Calvin Marlin (Mamelodi Sundowns).

Defenders: Aaron Mokoena (Blackburn Rovers, England), Bradley Carnell (Karlsruher, Germany), Cyril Nzama (Kaizer Chiefs), Vuyo Mere (Mamelodi Sundowns), Brett Evans (Ajax Cape Town), Benson Mhlongo (Mamelodi Sundowns), Nasief Morris (Panathinaikos, Greece), Bevan Fransman (Moroka Swallows).

Midfielders: MacBeth Sibaya (Rubin Kazan, Russia), Steven Pienaar (Everton, England), Papi Zothwane (Lamontville Golden Arrows), Surprise Moriri (Mamelodi Sundowns), Siyabonga Nkosi (Arminia Bielefeld, Germany), Benedict Vilakazi (Aarlborg BK, Denmark), Teko Modise (Orlando Pirates), Delron Buckley (Borussia Dortmund, Germany), Dillon Sheppard (Mamelodi Sundowns).

Strikers: Benedict McCarthy (Blackburn Rovers, England), Thembinkosi Fanteni (Ajax Cape Town), Siyabonga Nomvete (Aarlborg BK, Denmark).

  14. Guys lets not be scared by names. This morning when i heard on kickoff.co.za that Benny is back and i saw the Bafana Bafana team i was a bit concerned but names don’t play the game it just depends on the day of the game what happens.
Delron Bucley is loan at FC Basle he failed to make the grade B.Dortmund and S.Pineaar who i believe is a good player had to move Everton cos of failing at B.Dortmund.There many factors involved in players not making the grade so lets not be too harsh on our boys i agree with Kemps.

  15. #12 Football is a funny game, so funny that sometimes giants are beaten by small teams. The fact that SA have called a powerful squad is not alone a garanti of beating Zambia. And just to remind you some of these have been failures in the tougher leagues e.g. Nomvete (in Italy), Delron Buckley at Dortmund, Pienaar (at Dortmund). It is only McCarthy who is a quality player

  16. I’ve always told you guys ‘ ba FAZ balikwata ubwangalo bwamukanwa’ Next week I’ll be in Cape Town and we lose there you should all pay attention to the news because some of the top FAZ members will be sorry they went there ‘ pantu bakaponokwa’ Its not fair to have these *****s to embarrassing everytime we are crossing the boarders. Many of you who travels to South Africa knows what am talking about. I’m ready to go to jail if we lose next week pantu ba fikala bachita ova, ine ndi mwana wa nsasa

  17. Gentlemen, What makes Brazil “tick” as a world footballing nation? Is it
    1). Money
    2). Good administrators
    3). Talent
    4). None of the above
    5). All the obove
    6)….. what is it?
Just what is it that Brazil has, that Zambia does not have? I am well meaning and i seek other peoples opinions becoz as a footballing country “twachula pafula!!”.

  18. The only man in the SA team who is a top class player is Benny McCarthy. The rest are just ordinary, a bit of credit to S.Pienaar.We need to have a defender who can do a man marking job on Benny even if the man per chance walks out to go to the ‘loo’ this defender should go with him.
C.A.Parreira remained in England after the Scotland game to talk to Benny. It has to be seen whether the man will pitch up against Zed.He agreed to make a come back but theres no word from him yet whether he’s coming back for this game or later.Benny is a strange guy he wanted the officials in the SA football association to apologize to him before he makes a comeback. These guys accused him of leading a revolt over allowances just before the last Nations Cup.
The man is very unpredictable anything is possible. The big ‘dogs’ in SAFA are yet to apologize.

  19. Well, we should call a spade a spade. We should face the truth, Bafana will assemble the their strongest squad and will be playing at home. They beat us at home and we still expect miracles to happen in their own backyard. We can only beat Bafana if our team walk in Newlands stadium both physically and mentally prepared. They will also need the 12th player, which is us the supporters. FAZ should ensure that the pros jet in on time for the preparation and not to look for replacements at the 11th hour. Come next weekend we wiil support you all the way.CHIPOLOPOLO IYEEEEEE!!!!

  20. I strongly doubt if Mccarthy will play, SA is only playing mind games. They dont have a striker so they are trying to distabilise our game plan. We have a good team and we will beat Bafana Bafana. They are scared of us they know we are not a push over team. Ala bane lets go to Capetown in droves. Grand stand ticket is only R 50.00. We must support the boys all the way but dont forget raincoats it might rain

  21. Correction #8, Delron Buckly is not a right winger, he is a left winger and therefore Joseph Musonda as well as none of our Zambia team will be in trouble. Stay positive.

  22. Correction #8, Delron Buckly is not a right winger, he is a left winger. He is no longer playing in Germany but playes for FC Bassle in Switzerland. None of our Zambia players will be in trouble. Stay positive.

  23. Anonymous , you obviously dont have anything constructive to contribute so why dont you take a break and let those that add value to this site to inform us.Surely the webmaster shud do something about pipo like u.

  24. Zambia stadium declared unfit

Government says that the grandstand is safe

    By Kennedy Gondwe
    BBC Sport, Lusaka

The Zambian government has dismissed recommendations by a parliamentary sports committee that the country’s national stadium should be demolished.

The parliamentary committee toured the 43 year-old Independence Stadium and declared the structure unfit to host matches.

Committee chairperson Raphael Muyunda recommended a new stadium should be built as the current structure was a danger to the public.

But the Permanent Secretary in the sports ministry, Bob Samakai, insists that the stadium is safe, except for its grandstand.

“There is no demolition that is going to take place,” Samakai told BBC Sport.

I have personally not seen any official report where the stadium has been declared unfit

Bob Samakai, Permanent Secretary in Zambia’s sports ministry

“Why should we demolish the whole stadium when it’s only the grandstand that’s not sa

  25. JERUSALEM (AP) — A Zambian soccer player collapsed during a practice session Wednesday in the Israeli city of Beersheva and died minutes later in a hospital, the Israeli rescue service said.

Media reports identified the player as Chaswe Nsofwa, a forward with Hapoel Beersheva, which plays in Israel’s second division.

Israel TV reported the 27-year-old collapsed during a practice game in the desert city. Rescue workers tried to restart his heart for several minutes on the field before taking him to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba.

Paramedic Carmel Cohen told The Associated Press he rushed to the field when he received the emergency call.

“When we arrived we found the soccer player lying on the grass. We found his friends trying to help him,” he said. “We gave him first aid, electric shocks and an external pacemaker, but despite all our efforts, he was declared dead at the hospital.”

It was not known what caused the player’s collapse. Israel TV reported that he recently passed a physical exam.

On Tuesday, Antonio Puerta, a midfielder for the Spanish club Sevilla, died three days after collapsing during a league game.

  26. It is very tragic that Chaswe has passed away. I dont want to poin fingers at anyone but from what I gather the players were training under high temps of 40 degrees. How can that have been allowed to happen. 40 degrees is too high. Players are being overworked too much by these European Clubs it is too much. This is very painfull. Last time it was Marc Foe from cameroon.I think these clubs are overworking players for selfish gain. In the premiership they play during christmass and new year. That is inhuman. May Chaswe’s soul rest in peace.

  27. Very sad indeed. When we were just caliing on PP to include him in the team and after scoring two goals for hi new club. We will never forget you. MSRP.

  28. Ba chips, you will never forget Chaswe, while you can’t even remember Efford Chabala, what a lie! Attend memorial service next year for the Gabon disaster victims and stop making promises here

  29. Ultimate! Who told you that I have forgotten about the Air Gabon disaster victims? I am not in a position of authority, otherwise I would have done a lot more for those victims. My brother, am far away and the nature of he job am doing can not even allow me to attend the memorial service in April, much as I would have loved to attend every year. If any chance avails, I will not hesitate to do so.
Its not that I hate Zambia, no! But it was the corruptiona and lack of jobs in the Chiluba,s corrupt regime that led me to leave the country for greener pastures and am an astitute follower of the zambian footie and players. So I should not mourn Chaswe bacause of the late Chabala and company?
