Warriors, Buffaloes wait for their fate

Share

Kabwe Warriors and Green Buffaloes will have to wait a little while longer before they know the outcome of their abandoned Coca Cola Cup semifinal match played at Independence stadium in Lusaka on Saturday at halftime.

Referee Cornelius Mwanza called off the match before retuning from the break following crowd trouble after his assistant referee Jacob Mwiya was accosted by fans as the safety of the match officials looked like it wasn’t guaranteed.

The disturbances came after Buffaloes midfielder Dears Kakunta saw his 8th minute goal disallowed for offside before Warriors took the lead in the 44th minute through Emmanuel Mayuka.

Faz general secretary Fedelis Banda said Football House will meet this week to study the referees and match commissioner’s reports before deciding the final outcome of the match.

And in the other three semifinal matches played on Saturday, Zesco United and Nkana went through via similar 1-0 wins over Riflemen and Green Eagles away and at home through goals from Donwell Yobe and William Chinse respectively.

Meanwhile, Nkwazi also made it through to the semifinals after a 3-2 post match penalty win over division 2 club Young Green Eagles in their Coca Cola Cup Sunday kickoff.

  1. Let FAZ act ruthlessly to deal with such misconduct of soccer fans. Nkana are paying for thier misconduct.Hoolignism is outdated and backward type of behavior that should never be tolerated.

  2. Viva Nkana FC
We demand JUSTICE to be done. I am supprised that FAZ has not acted yet on this issue.

When it involves Nkana, these chaps don’t even wait for the so called “report”. They act on impulse.
Abash discrimination abash!!! Viva Fair Play!!!

To this day, we are yet to know what will happen to the game in which Nkana’s opponents did not pitch up.Do you mean FAZ has not yet gotten the report on that? When it comes to stripping off points from NKANA, this FAZ does it so quickly. They make pronouncements from their rooftops but when it comes to giving us the points due to us, they say that they first have to “sit”.

    FAZ, we are watching you!!
    Long live Nkana FC

KCM-FAZ DIVISION One (North) Nkana have complained over delays by FAZ to resolve the abandoned Coca-Cola Cup quarter-final match involving Green Buffaloes and Kabwe Warriors in Lusaka at the weekend.
Board member and former Nkana chairman, Chris Mpundu said in Kitwe yesterday that FAZ should not apply double standards and should mete out the appropriate punishment on Buffaloes after assistant referee Jacob Mwiya was stoned leading to the abandonment of the match .
Mpundu said it was worrying that FAZ had remained mute over the matter, saying had it been Nkana, the association would have descended on the club and not hesitated to mete out punishment.
But FAZ general secretary Fidelis Banda said the association was not a kangaroo court that would rush into making improper decisions but would instead make a ruling after receiving the relevant reports.
Referring to his years as Nkana chief, Mpundu said FAZ did not hesitate to ban Nkana from playing at their home ground but wondered why the issue of Buffaloes was being treated differently.
He said FAZ should stop applying double standards when dealing with other clubs, adding that even in 2000, Buffaloes were not punished after a similar incident occurred during the Mosi Cup final. During the Mosi Cup final played at Independence stadium, striker Dudley Fichite punched the referee, Stephen Saili who incidentally was the match commissioner last Saturday.
The incident happened after Saili had ordered Buffaloes to retake their penalty kick. The army team failed to convert prompting the player to punch the referee.
Mpundu said Nkana were not given a fair hearing by FAZ during the ban that came after the Konkola Blades match and the recent fracas involving Kalewa.
“The first time Nkana was banned, I was called at 01:00 hours by FAZ telling me to prepare a report which should be presented the following day. But shockingly at the same meeting it was surprising that even before we could present our case, the decision had already been made,” he said.
Mpundu said even after the match against Kalewa was abandoned, FAZ were quick to rush to the Press, saying Nkana would be dealt with severely and the stadium was shut soon afterwards.
He said it was surprising that FAZ had remained silent on the Buffaloes incident which led to the abandonment of the quarter-final, adding that double standards would not help improve the standards of the game in the country.
“Why is FAZ quite now that the matter involves Buffaloes? They were quick to hand Nkana punishment but why are they taking long to deal with the Buffaloes fan incident. FAZ must be fair in their dealings,” he said.
Banda said the match commissioner had submitted his report, while the association was waiting for another one from Kalulushi-based referee, Cornelius Mwanza, who handled the match.
He said the association would make a ruling after studying both reports including that from the clubs and that a fair hearing would be given. Assistant referee Mwiya was on Saturday stoned just above his right eye by a fan at half time, leaving him with a deep cut.
The incident prompted Mwanza to call off the match with the match commissioner saying Buffaloes did not provide proper security for the officials.
Warriors have urged FAZ to award them the match after taking a 1-0 lead through Emmanuel Mayuka’s superb free-kick as it was a Buffaloes fan who threw the stone.
Buffaloes on the other hand have opted to remain mute even after promising to issue a report.
