Nurses under fire in mazabuka for delaying to attend to patients

Share

Magoye member of parliament Bennie Mweemba has castigated nurses at Mazabuka district hospital for failing to attend to patients on time.

Mr Mweemba who stormed the Male ward at the hospital yesterday, said he would not be surprised to  hear that a nurse has been beaten because of their negative attitude
towards patients.

He claimed that the victim of the crocodile attack who died in the hospital
yesterday, died without being put on medication since Wednesday except for a drip.

Mr Mweemba said he will not condone such behaviour because it is putting lives of
patients in danger.

The Mp has since urged the hospital administration to jack up standards before
residents vent their anger on medical staff.

But hospital administrator John Zimba denied claims by the Mp that the crocodile
victim died without being given any medication.

Mr Zimba also advised the area Mp desist from accusing the nursing staff of
negligence for refusing him to visit the crocodile victims in the presence of Zambia
Wildlife Authority Workers.

He said nurses have specific instructions not to allow visitors in the wards without
express permission from the administration.

Mr Zimba said Mr Mweemba allegedly intimidated the nurses after they refused him
entry in the male ward were duo were admitted before one of them died.

  1. I think its high time the minister of health sit back ,scratch his head to brain storm what really is the hell that has befallen the ministry of health. While the nurses attitude torward patients is admittedly not pleasant or welcoming, gorverment should should accept that they have a big homework to do to normalise the situation. First of all, we should understand that there is no smoke without fire. Why is it that nurses are so much frustrated and demotivated to this extent? If I had enough space on this blog I was going to list down my own views about this important question. But one salient point I would like to bring out is that there is a psychological anguish most of the goverment nurses are going through right now due to pathetic working condition in our hospitals. Can you imagine one nurse attending to more than 30 patients all frantically crying to her in a filthy stinking ward which has no drugs? Such is current scenario in our hospitals particularly UTH and KCH.Continued…

  2. ..continued from #1
I wonder if this ignorant Mr mweemba did any preliminary investigation before issuing out these threats and indirectly insighting the people to raise agaist the nurses. Mr mweemba , I know you are a plumber. Imagine how difficult it can be for you to fix a network of pipes without a single spanner in your hands. Though there is a notion that nurses, like Florence Nightngale, are born they are also human and they have their own limitations. Let us stop victimizing nurses and concentrate on things that should make us go beyond this problem . Infact, the relationship between nurse and patient is now distorted and need to be fixed. There is a negative image which has emerged about the Zambian nurse and this may have
a psychological effect on the healing process of some hopeless patients. It appears like nurses are no longer angels in a white uniform as we used to no them. Be mindful that the nursing career has nerver been like this in the past, so why now?

  3. where is this nonsense of beating up nurses coming from? this is a barbaric culture which must not go on without being checked. Nurses work under difficult and stressful conditions in the hospitals. There are no medical equipments, not enough medicine and indequate personnel, and you expect them to have somber tempers in such situations. crazy government. Most nurses are committed and passionate about their work. Stop victimising them.

  4. Mr Mweemba nurses do not prescribe drugs, thats a doctors job.So if the prescription said drip then they will put up a drip. And mind you drugs can be in a drip foam.I think people should review the nurses job description before the put the whole blame on nurses.

  5. I AGREE with #1-4 Am surprised that even an M/P can have such language and doesnt know that even nurses have limitations like #2 has stated. Be sober and civilised and find the root causes.

  6. The antics of this cretin need to be urgently curbed. It seems he has nothing better to do than instigate violence against nurses, and meddle in patient care .What nursing or medical qualifications does he have?

  7. Something is amis in the MOH and the Minister should be fired soon.We told you to Vote for Sata so that such practices will be dealt with and offer the Zambian afforadble and quality health care. Now we see how MOH is negelting the nurses and all the health of Zambians?Shame upon you govt and LPM and Chituwo!!

  8. Dr Chituwo being a medical doctor must be a blessing for MOH but that chap seems not know the needs and wants of MOH. The best he can do is to retire on medical grounds before Dr Chuchu flushes out a red card at his nose. Like the saying “set a thief to catch a thief”, Chituwo do something for your challenge.
