The Nkoya Royal Establishment (NRE) says preparation for the Kazanga traditional ceremony slated in the month of July is underway and progressing well.
NRE Prime Minister Ntanda Ngwelela confirmed the development to ZANIS in an interview saying the ceremony will take place in July.
Mr Ngwelela, however, could not disclose the exact dates the ceremony will take place because the committee has not yet resolved.
He said the committee is yet to discuss who the guest of honour will be at this year’s ceremony to be held at the traditional venue Mangogi in Chilombo area.
“I can confirm that the Kazanga traditional ceremony will be held next month which is July 2026. I can’t give the exact date right now because we are yet to agree as the organising committee,” he said.
The Prime Minister has further appealed to well-wishers to contribute in any way possible for the successful hosting of the event.
Kazanga, which is the major annual cultural festival of the Nkoya people in Kaoma District, Western Province, was revived in 1988.
It is a first-fruits harvest ritual and thanksgiving to God for a bumper harvest. It was also a military occasion to honour warriors and hunters who killed lions and leopards.
