Central Province Permanent Milner Mwanakampwe has called for full disclosure on how carbon credits given to communities involved in forest conservation are calculated to avoid speculations from other stakeholders.
Dr Mwanakampwe stresses that it is important to enable stakeholders to understand how much is realized from the Carbon Credits and how the benefits of the communities are arrived at for them to appreciate the cause.
Dr Mwanakampwe, who was speaking when a delegation from the Bio Carbon Partners paid a courtesy call on him in Kabwe, said transparency in environmental management issues is key to national governance.
He also urged the stakeholders in the environmental management sector to prioritise the interest of the community when undertaking impact assessment exercises for various developmental programmes to promote inclusiveness.
The Permanent Secretary charged that local communities are often denied full information by project consultants on the direct benefits of developmental initiatives, especially private-sector driven projects.
And Bio Carbon Partners Chiefdom Lead Sarah Miti says the organisation will continue working closely with government, traditional leaders and the community in promoting smart agriculture and environmental conservation.
Ms Miti says the organisation remains committed to the fight against carbon emission and environmental degradation owing to the devastating effects of climate change.
